I would imagine his decision to hire Bryan Harsin at Auburn disqualified him from future consideration as Jack’s replacement lol.

They've got a dysfunctional situation going on in their athletic department and booster organization. Very fractured and full of opposing factions and big egos who all hate each other's guts and do everything they can to undermine and oppose the others, which all leads to some really bad decisions and coaching hires. It's a hot mess down there. Of course, as a Bama fan, this is like watching your enemy step on his own junk over and over. It's glorious!

Not sure where else to put this, but Auburn pushed out their AD in what I guess is some sort of fallout for the Bryan Harsin mess and Kevin White has OPINIONS.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat. War Eagle.

I'm not going to judge Allen Greene based on what's happening at Auburn. It's going to be hilarious if Harsin leaves Auburn on his own terms for another job after this year, say Nebraska, for example.

OU and Texas are coming to the SEC. Auburn will go the Hugh Freeze route in the end.

Wow - seeing this thread on the front page made me think Scott Frost had gotten fired already.
That seat has to be smoldering at this point. 15 wins in 4+ seasons now. There's gotta be some regret that they let go of 9-10 win Pelini.

Since the AD is out Harsin is all but gone.

Right. They're going to bring someone in with that intent. Regardless of what Harsin does.

Nebraska might be wise to go for Harsin once he's available. It's a better fit and he has more of a coaching resume at Boise State that Scott Frost had.

If i were the new AD i wouldn't hire Harsin to come to Nebraska.

I don't get the idea of Harsin to Nebraska. They need a homerun hire to reboot that program and get back to being a powerhouse. I'm not sure that anyone can do that, but I am pretty sure that Harsin isn't the one.

Maybe they'll offer Kelly $200m to leave LSU.

Yeah, I think gone are the days of Nebraska football dominance. Unless it's a homegrown homerun hire from out of nowhere, I just don't see it happening. With the rise of the internet the recruiting game has taken off to another level and most Midwest programs are struggling to keep the good local talent at home. They're left with leftovers as they get out-recruited by the SEC teams and other current powerhouses. Couple that with the fact you're trying to sell kids on 4 years in the corn fields and it's a hard sell.

My friend has a great idea for Nebraska’s future. They aren’t going to ever be a powerhouse again, so why not go gimmick with it and have some fun?

Coach. Ken. KeNU. The triple option back in Lincoln? Sign me the fuck up. They’ll win 6-7 games a year and knock off a highly ranked Ohio State or Michigan every now and then.

Ken Niumatalolo is the only man on earth that can (kind of) save Nebraska football

This is the way, and they'd probably win more than 6-7 games in the West would be my guess. It's a pain in the ass to defend, and you don't need superb talent to make it work. It gives opposing defenses fits, and the last time OSU faced Navy it was a close contest. Nebraska can certainly bring in some better athletic talent than the Navy, it could work.

[EDIT] I'm thinking of the 2009 OSU/Navy game which was a 31-27 Buckeye win, but they played one game after that in 2014 which wasn't as close. Point is Buckeyes are always laughing about ND playing Navy and they nearly got upset themselves that year. It was classic!

Bo Pelini won games at Nebraska. Just not big ones. Or games in November. In fact, he kinda got his ass kicked more often than not against good teams. Then audio of him going on a profanity laced tirade comes out and he's cursing fans, his bosses and others up and down.

I can see feeling bad for Frank Solich, but damn if ya'all give a squirt of piss for Bo Pelini. The guy is a meatheaded ass clown who isn't coaching right now at age 54. That says something.

I have to think Brian Hartline might get a big gig sometime. Not sure Braska is the fit though.
It has a PJ Fleck kind of ring to it. Fleck got an HC job in the MAC having never been an OC before with a reputation for being a good recruiter. Hartline has never been an OC and is known to be a good recruiter.

Nebraska has to have all options on the table at this point, but someone with college HC experience is usually something a program like this needs and wants, especially if they're trying to get back into the light.

I think this maybe was discussed on the Gameday thread over the weekend but Nebraska should look hard at Mike Elko. He's experienced, but not a retread like Bielema. Doesn't seem like one to shy from a challenge. And Nebraska would be a step up from Duke.

I like Elko, but he coaches his first game as an HC on Friday night. For him to even be on Nebraska's radar, how many games does he need to win this year?

Luke Fickell, Matt Campbell and Mark Stoops are where you aim high, but none of them are going to go is my guess. Nebraska HAS TO start there, though.

Nebraska has the money to get after basically any coach outside the new SEC and B1G. Between the recent big contracts schools have been handing out and mass of new hires, I would expect this offseason to have fewer openings than usual.

Auburn might be a better job but new hires will see that part of the job requires surfing on a mountain of rats. Nebraska will probably have first choice of coaches this offseason. It might not be one of those three but they will have plenty of solid options, I think.

You are correct that none of those guys are going to Nebraska.
I don't follow NFL all that closely and can't remember what's going on with Matt Rhule but if he's on the hot seat (which he seemed to be last year?) and they want to aim high that's who they should go after.

I think Campbell or Aranda would be realistic home run hires that would likely actually work out.

Sam Pittman might be a good candidate, but I don't know if he would be a big enough name for the boosters.

Kiffin would be a big enough name, but would probably fail hilariously.

Realistically, they need someone who has completed a rebuild before and knows how to do more with less. That's why someone like Jeff Monken or Lance Leipold (if he has a good season) make sense.

This is a great idea. He's 10-23 in two years, so this is probably going to be it for him. If he doesn't get it done he's out.

He did well at Temple and Baylor. I think that's what they're looking for.

Mike leach might have been a better fit there than Miss state. And might have been a better place for Mike Norvell.
