I don't know the answer to my question... I'm asking to learn, but how much of Jimbo's recruiting skills translate to today's NIL world? Would he still be able to pull in top 5 classes or have things changed so much that he'd be lost at how to deal with the new world order?

Good question. He didn't exactly deal well with A&M's departing recruits towards the end, it was like a mass exodus. Maybe he learned some lessons, but he couldn't retain and who knows if he can play the transfer portal.

The flip side is if you could get Florida State running at even 80 percent of their potential, they’d be in the top tier of the ACC.
In that sad-ass conference, Jimbo wouldn’t need to build an elite roster to at least be in the playoff conversation most years. He would just need to execute with the guys they get.

This is right. He'd get them to a respectable record in the ACC. The money stuff is from the stupid funding they went through for the football facility and that firing Norvell + his assistants is something like $90-100 million.

Once they rip the bandaid off, they'll be able to fund a competitively talented team.

I don't think he would be a good hire for them, necessarily, but if the job opened I wouldn't be surprised if they hired him.

Clemson is a perfect fit for Kelly.
Their lack of NIL is a built in excuse to not work hard and the ACC is so bad he can still cruise to 8-9 wins every year.
