Can these two things not be true at the same time?
1) Players getting paid their value is good.
2) Professionalization of college football is destroying the college sports world as we knew it.

I totally understand why the coaches of these teams don't want to deal with it anymore, and if you're already rich beyond belief and a living legend, I think it's a no-brainer to retire like Saban did.

Never said it wasnt, but i think it would have actually been difficult to fuck up “correcting the system” any worse than the NCAA did.
But the NCAA hasn’t done anything but adhere to court rulings and every time they try to enforce any rules they lose in court. I don’t know if there is anything the NCAA can do now.

Ole Miss: Ole Miss is set to hire former Mississippi State head coach Zach Arnett as an analyst

Oklahoma: Oklahoma is hiring Kevin Johns as an offensive analyst. Johns was most recently the offensive coordinator at Duke and was key in the development of Riley Leonard. Has also been an OC at places like Memphis and Texas Tech.

USC: USC is set to hire TCU’s Anthony Jones as its new running backs coach. At TCU, Jones has coached players such as 2023 third-round pick Kendre Miller and current NFL draft prospect Emani Bailey.

Georgia State: Georgia State is expected to hire former Charlotte head coach and current UCF staffer Will Healy as running backs coach.

Georgia State: Eastern Kentucky's Jeremy Hawkins is expected to be hired as defensive line coach at Georgia State.

Jeremy Hawkins is starting to work his way up the ladder. Highly regarded young coach who is on his way to P4.

I don't think he's the college football type at this juncture.

I also wish he could have beaten the piss out of Urban Meyer like he wanted to. If only the other coaches hadn't held him back.

Napier won't get through the season, particularly with program destroyer Mertz playing.

Just his opinion, but Barrett Sallee; said that w/ NIL & the portal, if a HC isn’t getting it done after 2 years, he should probably be fired.

Depends on the situation honestly. A mediocre first year or two and the money dries up the coach is a dead man walking. I doubt most programs go all in with the money that early. Some will… see Auburn… but most of the big money guys want to know what they are investing in.

Napier will be lucky to make it to the end of September. He’s gotta know he was a dead man walking when that schedule got released

Wvu grad here. I would be shocked if Neal Brown is the head coach still come this time next year.
That was a pathetic showing yesterday in probably the biggest game in Morgantown this decade.

If they lose the backyard brawl in two weeks the pitchforks / couch burning will be out in full force

Napier was done when their schedule was released. He may not make it to the brutal second half of the season stretch.
Agreed. Not sure why everyone is coming to this conclusion because Miami rolled them in The Swamp. It's all but inevitable. He won't see the UGA game. They're going to need to start going through the back channels to get a head start on finding their guy. His comments about the rural guy on social media in central Florida living in his basement, while totally accurate and genuinely hilarious to me personally, is an immediate sign that he's done and he knows it.

Napier seem like the kind of guy Saban would hire and "fix", a la kiffen, sark, or o'brien.

He worked for Saban on two different occasions, which I'm sure played a part in their hiring him when they didn't get whoever it was they wanted first. I think he's a good guy and his work at UL prior to Florida shows he can run a program. Florida is a different animal, and he has Spurrier and Lord Florida for that. I think he could do a good job at another P4 program after a stint as an OC again if he plays the right cards. That job down in Gainesville isn't for everyone, and we've seen that now with Zook, McElwain and Mullen before Napier.

IIRC, none of those three coaches have been particularly good after Florida, either. Did the school break them as a coach? Is that's even a thing? Did they not grow and the game passed them by?

McElwain, I think I can understand. He came from being a coordinator and he doesn't translate as well to being a head coach. Zook and Mullen had success as head coaches (Mullen quite a bit for being in the SEC West) at the P5 level, "failed" at Florida, and haven't recovered. Though I guess it is a bit early to say that for Mullen, if he really "failed" as bad as others.

I used to think Saban would take on all these rejects as some sort of personal reclaimation project but no the whole thing was forced on him by his agent every time lol basically they’d go work for Saban and get a ring and lo and behold they have value in the market again and the agent cashes in

Both Zook and Mullen were assistants at UF prior to becoming HC there. I think that played a major part in their hirings to begin with and both of them had to have known the pressures that came with the job. Especially Mullen has he did it in the post Bush Gore century twice while Zook as an assistant for the Gators in the 90s. UF was Zook's first HC job. For Mullen UF was his second.

Zook got Illinois to a Rose Bowl after Florida fired him, which is about as close to a water to wine at a wedding trick you're probably going to be able to find. Apart from that he really didn't do anything at Illinois other than make ND and Michigan fans believe he was cheating at recruiting, allegations that were never proven. Unique situation.

Mullen is at ESPN and we don't know what he'll do next.
