Yeah. I listened to Sampson and Fortuna's podcast on The Athletic this week and this is basically what they said. One of them even said "Thank God someone finally came out talked about this in public," and suggested it's been an off-the-record issue among assistants and people close to the program for years.

Which is not to say it's the end of the world. They also noted BK has long been a very successful coach and what works for him has, by and large, has worked quite well, and that as a recruiter he can be very "effective in a small room," as they put it. But also the guy has a lot on his plate and time spent texting 17 year olds about how awesome they are is time not spent, I dunno, preparing his actual team to play real football games and stuff. Priorities, ya know?

So, sucks that we may have lost one four-star recruit this year because BK didn't push it hard enough. But it doesn't seem like anyone's really out to get him, and also maybe let's not blow the thing out of proportion.

That’s exactly what happened on this thread. No one is bashing Brian Kelly. Sometimes facts don’t care about one’s feelings.

Aside from Pittman, that's a very interesting bunch of guys all in one half of a conference.

Oh I like Pittman, he's just not as "interesting" as the rest lol....

Should make for a lot of gold moments this year.

The Egg Bowl by itself could be crazy.

To put a bow on the Carter Karels article regarding BK’s recruiting & the 2 recruits who claimed he didn’t contact them...Eric Hansen (also of the SBT) reported that BK was busy re-recruiting kids after the announcement that Long would be departing. Michael Mayer was quoted as saying he thought about de-committing after the announcement but BK following up allayed any reservations. Plus, he was planning for a bowl game w/ a new interim OC. That said, Hansen acknowledged that BK could have been more involved w/ McMillan & Ransom on the front end of their recruitment.

Simply delicious. I was happy to see Lame Kitten come back, but Leach in the SEC is going to be incredible.

Gonna be interesting to see how Leach reacts when he blows a 30 point lead in the second half of a game against a conference foe. Cracking jokes may cut it in Pullman but it's a different crowd now. I don't believe there will be much laughing at his ramblings at that point.

You're telling us BK was not up in his office playing CEO and giving out orders?

Honestly, I don't get the hire from MSU's perspective. Leach will have a hard ceiling at 8 wins at best, under most years. Sure, they will get an upset or two. But he will, at best, match Dan Mullen, but without the Dax years. If they truly want to rise up, I don't see how Leach does that. And I love Leach.

That's the general consensus in SEC country as well. Maybe Miss St thinks Leach can replicate Mullen and maybe he can. And maybe that's good enough for their program. But man... it's a tough row to hoe.

Not sure about the best coach, but by far the smartest coach of the offseason was Matt Ruhle by declining to interview with the Browns. What a $hitshow.

Josh McDaniels and wife are visiting the Browns today. When the wife is on the trip, it's all but a done deal.

Doesn't bother me. Since it appears the Pats run is about over and Brady and the Pats arguing about the length of a contract he probably thinks this is the best time to go.

Notre Dame: Sources tell FootballScoop Notre Dame director of football operations Jason Michelson has accepted a position outside of football. Michelson, we are told, was presented with a great opportunity to help manage a company’s growth from regional to national. Our understanding is the position at Notre Dame is open and Brian Kelly is likely to consider candidates over the next month.

Don't sleep on Leach. Compared to the rest of the SEC, I can see his offense being like playing Navy. You prep for a traditional spread offense week after week and then suddenly you have one week to prep for a very different style. I'm not sure it will result in them winning 10 games every year, but 8-4 at Miss St. is a good season. And that's very doable with 1 upset a year and not losing stupid games.

Agree with you, this was his MO at Tech where he created chaos for UT, OU, and TAMU. Decent teams that always came up with a stunner upset along the way, but that could also have an inexplicable loss.

Outside of a boatload of guaranteed cash and control of personel, I can't imagine why anyone would want to coach there.

Yeah, if you're career goal is to make a bunch of money, fast, and then retire this is perfect.

Great analogy. He only has 5-7 plays but their repetition makes them very efficient and there are multiple options on each play. He’s even compared it to defending triple-option. He said, “they know we’re going to pass it...it’s just a matter of where”.

MSU should have more talent on defense than he’s used to so if he can get a decent DC to handle that, he’ll have them competitive. Mullen had a nice run and I believe it turned into the expectation but should it be? It’s still Mississippi St. Moorhead got them to a bowl in both seasons while going 2-0 vs their arch rival. Granted, he had a lot of off the field chaos that prevented them from doing better so I get the underwhelming feeling from fans but they’re not winning the SEC West anytime soon regardless of who the HC is.

Good news for Leach is that MSU spends more money on their program than WSU did.
Bad news for Leach is that MSU spends the least amount of money on football in their division.
