Baylor will find some ragtag team of wiry replcaements and will make a conference title run.

Watch the movie ... they tied one, and won one ... beat the big tough Texas power school

Idk man. They had a mass exodus of talent and basically punted on a recruiting class or two. It's gonna take a long time for them to even be respectable.

Yes...very much had an exodus

Again I have to reiterate how ungodly stupid Rhule was for taking the Baylor job. I mean, it could very much derail his coaching career. Honestly, he probably should've stood pat at Temple and waited for some quality opportunities to open up this year.

Obviously the whole BK situation at ND; You also have Kevin Sumlin on the hot seat at A&M and I think he's gonzo after that implosion against UCLA unless he finds a way to win the SEC West (pff, good luck); Kingsbury could be on his way out at Texas Tech; Mora's not out of the woods yet at UCLA.

There were PLENTY of opportunities waiting for him that didn't include the total shitstorm that's Baylor right now.

Coaches Hot Seat 2017

Based on the BC win, Kelly jumps all the way to the #7 hot seat 5 seats up from last week's @2 ranking.

A win over MSU might break out a multiyear contract extension.

Ah right, Dr White is gone. That sea of red had my eras mixed.

How hot does the nebraska seat get in light of the ad being terminated
Nebraska Athletic department shows a strong commitment to winning. Eventually they will find their guy. Bye Riley.

“Shawn has led Nebraska Athletics in many positive ways, but those efforts have not translated into on-field performance,” Green said in a press release. “Our fans and our student-athletes deserve leadership that drives the highest levels of competitiveness, as well as excellence across all facets of Husker Athletics.”

Eichorst's biggest move at Nebraska was his decision to fire Bo Pelini after the 2014 season. The Cornhuskers were coming off a 9-3 season and had gone 67-27 under Pelini over seven seasons. Eichorst hired Mike Riley to replace Pelini, and Riley's Nebraska teams have gone 16-13 in two-plus seasons.

News also broke last week that despite the slow start to the Riley regime, Eichorst extended Riley's contract through the 2020 season
.
Nebraska says that a national search for a new athletic director will begin immediately.

Firing Pelini and hiring Riley was a head scratcher from the start. Nebraska brought this on themselves.

Send them all packing back to the Westcoast.

Then fire Lyght, hire Donte Williams as DB Coach / Assistant Recruiting Director and when Elston takes over a MAC job next year, slide Polian into his Assistant HC position and bring in Dave Cohen from Wake to take Elston's spot.

Time to X out bad CB recruiting!

Worked for Texas Tech...

Charlie Strong will be somewhere nice next year.

I think '19 would be more likely. Texas will still be playing $5 million a year through '18. Strong's '19 USF salary will be $2.5 million. He was making $3.7 million at UL with a $5 million buyout when he left for TX.

Strong's annual compensation from USF jumps to $2.5 million in 2019 — after Texas' financial obligation to him ends — and increases by $100,000 each of the final two years.

If Strong leaves for another job before Dec. 31, 2017, he owes USF a buyout of $2.5 million. That total dwindles to $1.7 million by the deal's last year.

If he's dismissed, USF owes him only his base salary over a 20-week period. If he gets another job before then, the school's obligation is mitigated based on whether Strong's new salary is higher (USF's payments end) or lower (USF pays the difference between the salaries).

in essence Bo was fired cause he did not please the moral authority and Riley does, Bo won them 10 games a year compared to Riley winning them 5 a year and he won 6 games a year at his previous stop

The $12 Million Buyout Bowl.

Sumlin or Fat Bret. Who you got?

Sumlin needs a miracle to keep his job. The Ags have given up on him already. He's going to need a head turning finish to stay and they got the funds to flush and search.

I would keep Fat Bret. Yeah, he hasn't brought amazing results but they're not awful and he seemingly has them slowly...slowly... Improving. That program would be a powerhouse in the SEC east.

........

Who's taking over at Nebraska? Does Sumlin rebound to a head coaching gig?

So if Butch Jones is fired, does Bobby Petrino move down one state?

Still not sure how much clout petrino has outside of of louisville. He's:

-left Jacksonville without telling his boss
-flirted with leaving louisville for auburn without telling his boss (and left a wake of destruction behind him at auburn while doing so)
-left louisville after signing big extension (and claiming he wouldn't)
-left the Falcons without telling anybody, in the middle of the season
-lied to and fucked over his friend and boss at arkansas, while carrying on an extramarital affair, with somebody he probably illegally hired at a state institution.

It's tough to believe many AD's out there would risk their name and career on him. Then again, tennessee is desperate to stay relative, so the need to win could supersede that.

lsu supposedly wanted art briles last year, but even a school with, essentially, zero standards, wouldn't touch him. Granted, briles is even more incendiary than petrino, but a lot of tennessee people and money wouldn't go for petrino. But as I said, they're getting into near desperation mode there.

You bring up a good point. It'd be Auburn. Who else would be desperate enough to make that hire?

I think I remember pawl finebaum saying a couple years ago that even auburn wouldn't touch petrino. But again, that was a couple years ago. Auburn is not very good this year, but neither is the sec. I don't think much of gus as a coach, but he should be able to get to 8 wins in the regular season. I think he might be ok at 8, 7 is probably 50-50, and 6 or below I'd say he's out. But yes, that school may be desperate, and will not require an ethical coach to take the reigns.

Auburn, 3-1, is ranked 13th and 15th in the polls. They have one "good" lose to Clemson and 3 wins over teams that wouldn't be considered good in 1aa:

Missouri, Sagarin's #112 ranked team
GA Southern, a former 1aa team, #140
Mercer, a current 1aa team, # 149

And they still have #128 Louisiana-Monroe, a former 1aa Directional School, on the schedule

There are 130 teams in Division 1A. 10 1aa schools are ranked ahead of Missouri by Sagarin.

I've lived in Alabama for more than 3 decades and don't think I ever seen the words "ethical" and "coach" in the same sentence when speaking of Auburn.

A big part of Pellini's firing had little to do with his record, and more to do with his temper and a few anger issues, didn't it?

Nebraska?

I'm missing the connection with the UTN situation. Possible replacement?

Anyway, he won 9 games a year but NEVER won a conference championship. He also ran his mouth too often at inopportune times ... when there was a mike or camera nearby.

And then like all the other NU coach's since the late 90's, he's not Tom Osborne.

My timing was a bit off... I was responding to a much earlier post. I should've quoted it. In my defense, I worked all night and just woke up, so my brain is still stuck in 1st gear, I'm on my first cup of coffee, and I'm struggling to remember my name at the moment.
