Brandon Smith, kid is an NFL LB in the making. Lea has been all over this him recently, here's to hoping this helps with that.
I really like the move. Is this the final straw with Elston? Even if it is I like this move the best, but I wonder how he's feeling?
And he played fullback in college. Maybe he can talk Kelly into recruiting one.
Wtf does this even mean? Dude is already also the recruiting coordinator and assistant head coach...
Probably keeps us in the running with Solomon T as well.
NDNation's servers just crashed.

Is he the recruiting coordinator? I've seen conflicting information whether its him or Polian
being passed over for the dc position
Sorry, he "was" head of recruiting. I believe they're in a "co" position now.
Regardless, he's the assistant head coach, Kuenhja is acting like Kelly stole his girl.
Jeff Burris for safeties coach?

Per his comments in the recent article and his glowing review of Coach Lea, I concur
I think hiring Lea is the perfect balance of risk/reward.
There's risk in hiring a first-time DC, but that's minimized by scheme continuity and how closely he seemed to work with Elko over the past 2+ years. It's also minimized by the fact that we know he's going to recruit his ass off.
The potential rewards (defense improves again; recruiting stays hot; Coney and/or Tillery join Tranquill in returning) were worth taking a shot on Lea.
Probably keeps us in the running with Solomon T as well.
He's been passed over twice now to become the DC. ND just brought in a guy who's a position coach (like Lea), and only been here a year, and they're promoting that guy. Elston's been here how long?
Maybe Elston is totally cool with it. But if you think it's silly to ask the question "will Elston be cool with it", you're probably not rational enough to be discussing this to be honest.
I'd rather have Demtrice Martin resume v. resume but it IS Jeff Burris afterall. Plus, do the man a solid and get him out of Waterloo. Hell hole and F*** UNI and their blow-up stadium.
Elston has already been "rewarded" for his "services".
1) He was retained through all coordinator changes.
2) He was promoted to recruiting coordinator.
3) He was promoted to assistant head coach.
Elston doesn't "know" this offense on the level Lea does (in terms of experiencing/teaching). Elston understands NDs direction was to "keep the ball rolling". He's also surely intelligent to enough to know that Lea is actually more qualified than he is to run this scheme.
Elston also knows he has been "saved' and "promoted" numerous times, and has been rewarded with "assistant head coach" because he is a more qualified, experienced leader for Notre Dame as a whole. (hence, head coach qualities, not neccessarily Elko's defensive replacement).
Mike has a hell of a thing going, and I guarantee that he could do "better" (eventually) than a DC (aka, Chuck Martin / Charlie Molnar type of head coach job)
Just never mind man.

What above was incorrect?

Elston could easily be looking at this either way. For me to assume your guess is wrong is asinine. For you to assume my proposed perspective is wrong is asinine. Both are logical.
But you are asinine. So if that's your stone cold stance and nothing else could be true, again, just never mind man.
Nothing. That could be his perspective.
But the other side of it is he's been here forever, Lea's been here one year, Elston has wanted the DC job in the past, and has now been passed over a 2nd time for a guy who's been here 11 months. Elston also knows ND better, the ND players better, and BK better, and probably has a pretty high belief that he can get the DC job done really well at ND.
Where I realize you're too irrational to discuss with, is when you respond to the question "I wonder if Elston is cool with this", with your "WTF does this even mean" comment.

These are all good points..... and hopefully not strong enough points to automatically give the job to Elston.
If he wasn’t good enough 11 months ago, he isn’t good enough today. IMO
