Damn you Chicago Bears for getting me amped for the future. I wanted out. I thought I was out. But then you suck me right back in.

If they go Williams and Odunze tonight (on top of building the new stadium that was dropped in the video)....oh my.

@Jiggafini19Deux , how much cap do they have to continue to fill roster needs with elite players? DL and OT for example.

Hardman. Hill. Watkins. Schuster. Scantling. Toney. The Chiefs addressed their OL in free agency as the Bears just did this offseason in the IOL.

Poles drafted Wright last year. Jenkins was drafted in the second round in 2021. How comfortable Poles is with Jenkins remains to be seen, but they addressed the IOL in free agency and not tackle. They got Keenan Allen. Their top needs right now are probably QB, WR, EDGE, OT in that order.

Caleb Williams threw last week with Moore, Allen and Odunze. He and Odunze flew to the draft together. The Bears did not interview any other QBs. They're all in on this guy. Very likely that ninth pick is a WR or OT. I hope it's a WR. I've seen enough shit offense in my life from a franchise best known for a defense that played 40 years ago and playing in bad winter weather when they used to make the playoffs.

I’m not on the up and up about the bears organization but didn’t they just remodel soldier field like 15 years ago? I’ve never stepped foot in that stadium but is building a new stadium makes sense for the city?

It's been 20+ years since the remodel, I can't recall which season they played down at the U of I. There's no need for that to happen this time at least as the stadium will be built on a different site so Soldier Field will be available.

Right now I believe they have a tad under $23M open in cap room. Next year it jumps to $76M.

Meh. Trade the pick down.

2002-2003.

Yes, it does make sense to build a new stadium. Soldier opened in 1924. Right now it seats 61,500 which makes it the smallest capacity stadium in the NFL. Like ND prior to getting turf, they've had constant issues with the grass because of being right on Lake Michigan. They can have outdoor concerts there in the summer. The MLS Chicago Fire play there. Apart from that, you get limited use of it and it's run by the Chicago Park District.

Dome, turf, more than 70,000 capacity for football...it's a winner and long overdue, regardless of where it is built. All signs indicate it's going to be the city, but Arlington Heights has not been completely ruled out. They're going to have to counter with something really good now. I still think the blueprint is Allegiant Stadium with a new name on it.

Sadly they're talking now about 68K capacity for football not counting SRO. Being in the city and on the Lakefront is ideal, I'm just surprised the McCaskeys are greenlighting this since they should objectively make more money out in Arlington Heights.

Based on the Chicago beat, there's a substantial amount of doubt across the board that this is happening. There are multiple obstacles to overcome especially if they want to break ground by 2025 (no way that's happening on time in the first place).

Also, where the hell are people supposed to park? I guess there's parking underneath the green space and they threw out the idea of building up the South Lot. Good luck with FOP on that one...

The FotP doesn't care about the parking lot, they care about the use of public space for a private entity. The city would retain ownership of the stadium for that reason, just like they leased the land for the Obama Center in Jackson Park. The plan also provides substantially more green space and public access than is currently on the site. The FotP will surely sue to stop the project, but this isn't Lucas Museum 2.0.

Chiefs wrs were all primarily brought in via free agency the last 2 years as well. All I know is the bears franchise is a complete shit show and always has been for as long as I've been alive. We're only having these conversations because they have so many needs to fill. Hopefully both Williams and who ever they take at 9 both hit. That being said I fully expect them both to be busts. Bears have only hit on what like maybe 5 first round picks since they took Urlacher in 2000? Just a really shitty franchise for all my life

To be fair, there's been huge chunks between 2001 and now where the Bears didn't even have a 1st round pick.

It's also hard to put the failures of Angelo, Emery and Pace on Poles. In fact, Poles has had one 1st round pick so far in Darnell Wright, which so far, has looked like a pretty good pick (he didn't have one in '22 because Pace traded up for Fields). Not to mention, while fortunate that he got the top pick, him nabbing a ton of draft capitol for essentially Bryce Young is looking like a big win for the Bears.

We'll see, but so far, Poles is giving me a lot more confidence that he knows how to build a competitive NFL roster than the previous 3, who all had serious flaws in their roster and staff construction. Might also help that, for what seems like the first time in my lifetime as a fan, the Bears have finally put football minds in charge of making football decisions. Warren appears to have a better understanding of Poles' operation and they're working in tandem to get things done, rather than McCaskey and Phillips pretending like they know better and undermining the football people in the room. Hopefully, it stays that way.

Having a franchise quarterback solves and hides other problems. Bears have had good/great teams in the past. Bears win a superbowl and potentially beat Manning if they have a decent QB not named Rex Grossman. Foundational you need that QB. Bears haven’t had it. With the Bears luck on QBs they should almost draft Williams and then draft or trade up from 9 to get another one because their luck has been so pathetic.

So basically Ryan Poles can't do well nor will any of his picks just because?

Really makes me want the new domed stadium regardless. Keep the curse indoors.

Counterpoint: beer farts and the sweaty BO from all the Italian beef and sausages means that the Bears should never play indoors

Since you all asked, here are my thoughts:

This class has about 15 or so high end, day one starters.

After that, there is a blob of about 40 guys that are virtually indistinguishable.

At 9, my game plan would be to take, in order:

Alt
Nabors
Odunze

Since it is a virtual lock 2/3 of that list will be gone by 9, and probable all of that list is gone, then, and ONLY then, would I move down, but also stay INSIDE the top 15.

I will strangle Poles through the TV if they stay at 9 and take the fat guy from Texas or something like that.

They had their chance to get a better version of that guy last year, but were too scared to make the pick because he got a speeding ticket, and moved down to save face.

Surely it's a total coincidence that the Rams want to trade up into the top 10 and the Bears are open for business at 9

A speeding ticket!??!? See below from ESPN:

"Carter had been involved in a fatal Jan. 15 crash in Athens, Georgia, following the Bulldogs' championship parade. He ultimately pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and racing and was sentenced to 12 months of probation, a $1,000 fine and 80 hours of community service. The vehicle Carter was alleged to be racing against crashed, resulting in the death of Georgia teammate Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy.

Multiple Georgia coaches declined to go to bat for Carter during the pre-draft process, according to sources familiar with the conversations, in part because they had grown disenchanted with his practice habits and attitude. His behavior as a teammate came into question as well, notably after he struck then-Georgia linebacker Quay Walker in the face during a fall practice in 2020. It was described by sources familiar with the pre-draft process as a "knockout punch.""

That's a lot more than a speeding ticket. If he didn't get picked by an decent organization, he probably isn't nearly as good as he was. Philly is a good organization, Chicago (at least last year) was not.

Fully agree that I'm jaded based on the history of picks and the franchise moves pre Pace. And he has been much better than his predecessors. It's just so far for me to get excited about a Lincoln Riley QB. Especially this one

With this and the report that SF is talking with teams to trade Aiyuk and that one of those teams is in the top 10…what if the Bears do a swap with the Niners pick for Aiyuk?

Never get hyped on draft day.

You think Irish fans are gun-shy?
