I wonder if Purdue would go after Long - no italics
OR... they hire Fickell and Elston gets the Cincy job.
Polian didnt get the BGSU job
The 2013 class was ranked #24th, but you're right on the others. Hearing Texas fans talk about his recruiting you would think all those classes were ranked 50th lol. Still, when you see how Strong had to clean house when he came in and how they were performing with all that talent, it really makes you question what was going on there at the end at Texas.
The recurring theme at the end of the Mack era at Texas was recruiting. People were rightfully questioning his tactics and the rankings of the services. Brown was questioned for his tactics in the arms race of big time college recruiting.
Brown started having 14-18 guys signed at or on Junior Day. Critics began wondering if he should have slowed his roll a bit and waited to see how some of the guys developed, both in skill and physically, before arriving on campus in a year and a half.
It's a valid argument. But also a convenient one.
Another thing that people forget is that Brown and Texas had 7 consecutive years of legitimately 2 of the best college QB's to ever play in Young and McCoy. Texas still hasn't really found a decent QB since McCoy, but low and behold, Texas seems to be good again with the emergence of Ehlinger.
Mack Brown was fired December of 2013 so the 2014 class isn’t his class as there were 9 recommits after his firing and the new staff built that class up. So basically his full classes rank as such...
1999 - NR
2000 - NR
2001 - NR
2002 - 1
2003 - 8
2004 - 9
2005 - 13
2006 - 6
2007 - 3
2008 - 8
2009 - 6
2010 - 2
2011 - 4
2012 - 2
2013 - 17
At top 10 class in every except 2 is elite. Obviously Texas has the resources and location to recruit at the highest levels but he still kept that recruiting machine humming at an incredible pace.

I hated the way Kelly did it to Cincy and I hate the way he is doing it. People sell their soles for money.
Stop... Make sure you tell us about the next job you turn down that pays $100K more than your current one, Mr. Loyal Britches!

Again, I was basing my statements on Texas fans opinions, but just because you have high recruiting rankings doesn't mean you have a team of world beaters from top to bottom. Texas had no quarterbacks of note (At least that could produce on the field) once Colt McCoy left at the end of 2009. Yeah, Garret Gilbert was thought of highly, but how did that turn out? He was demoted behind 3 star QBs Case McCoy and David Ash, and then he transferred to SMU. That was how Mack's QB recruiting went in the final years post Colt McCoy.
Who else was available to them during that period? Manziel really wanted to be a Longhorn, but Mack passed on him (Thought he was a Safety is the old rumor). JT Barrett also wanted to be a Longhorn, but wound up at tOSU. So, while overall recruiting rankings are certainly important, Mack failed to really bring in quality QBs. That may ultimately be why their struggled on the field, he whiffed on the their most important position.

If someone offered me 6-figures for an old pair of shoes, I'd be hard pressed to turn them down.
It appears Brohm is staying at Purdue.
"I want Louisville to do what's best for them," Brohm said after Purdue's 28-21 win at Indiana, which made the Boilers bowl-eligible at 6-6. "I'm a fan. But right now, I'm the coach at Purdue. This is where I want to be and I like it here."
Brohm called the reports linking him to Louisville "pure speculation" and said he has talked with Purdue players about the situation and "will continue to be honest with my team."
Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore told Rivals.com that Brohm told the team "there's nothing to worry about" regarding his future.
Read where there is a rumor about UoL contacting Mizzou HC, which would support Brohm's statement. Not sure which HC position is better UoL or Mizzou?
When you have a chance to sell part of your foot, you gotta take it.I hated the way Kelly did it to Cincy and I hate the way he is doing it. People sell their soles for money.

This could be the biggest opening of the off season. Get a coach that doesn't run that garbage triple option and they would never have to leave the state for recruiting. The right coach will have that team being the top dog in the ACC Coastal by year 2.

Are we sure the GT cares about football? Besides, I'd be way more scared of Ken N than Paul Johnson at Tech.
