The 2013 class was ranked #24th, but you're right on the others. Hearing Texas fans talk about his recruiting you would think all those classes were ranked 50th lol. Still, when you see how Strong had to clean house when he came in and how they were performing with all that talent, it really makes you question what was going on there at the end at Texas.

Mack Brown was fired December of 2013 so the 2014 class isn’t his class as there were 9 recommits after his firing and the new staff built that class up. So basically his full classes rank as such...

1999 - NR
2000 - NR
2001 - NR
2002 - 1
2003 - 8
2004 - 9
2005 - 13
2006 - 6
2007 - 3
2008 - 8
2009 - 6
2010 - 2
2011 - 4
2012 - 2
2013 - 17

At top 10 class in every except 2 is elite. Obviously Texas has the resources and location to recruit at the highest levels but he still kept that recruiting machine humming at an incredible pace.

The recurring theme at the end of the Mack era at Texas was recruiting. People were rightfully questioning his tactics and the rankings of the services. Brown was questioned for his tactics in the arms race of big time college recruiting.

Brown started having 14-18 guys signed at or on Junior Day. Critics began wondering if he should have slowed his roll a bit and waited to see how some of the guys developed, both in skill and physically, before arriving on campus in a year and a half.

It's a valid argument. But also a convenient one.

Another thing that people forget is that Brown and Texas had 7 consecutive years of legitimately 2 of the best college QB's to ever play in Young and McCoy. Texas still hasn't really found a decent QB since McCoy, but low and behold, Texas seems to be good again with the emergence of Ehlinger.

Yeah, didn't help that guys like Manziel and RGIII were passed on by Texas.

Again, I was basing my statements on Texas fans opinions, but just because you have high recruiting rankings doesn't mean you have a team of world beaters from top to bottom. Texas had no quarterbacks of note (At least that could produce on the field) once Colt McCoy left at the end of 2009. Yeah, Garret Gilbert was thought of highly, but how did that turn out? He was demoted behind 3 star QBs Case McCoy and David Ash, and then he transferred to SMU. That was how Mack's QB recruiting went in the final years post Colt McCoy.

Who else was available to them during that period? Manziel really wanted to be a Longhorn, but Mack passed on him (Thought he was a Safety is the old rumor). JT Barrett also wanted to be a Longhorn, but wound up at tOSU. So, while overall recruiting rankings are certainly important, Mack failed to really bring in quality QBs. That may ultimately be why their struggled on the field, he whiffed on the their most important position.

I hated the way Kelly did it to Cincy and I hate the way he is doing it. People sell their soles for money.

I would have loved to face Ehlinger in a bowl game, but making the playoffs is a great consolation

Purdue called a team meeting... Rondale Moore thinking about submitting that paperwork, and Milton Wright is gonna flip his commitment and stay home.

If someone offered me 6-figures for an old pair of shoes, I'd be hard pressed to turn them down.

There are ways to do it and ways not too.

I am staying at Purdue and all that talk is crap.

How hard is it to say when asked we’ll see what happens.

The QB position is a total crap shoot. There are usually 1-2 guys in the entire country that are surefire good college QBs coming out of high school. The Florida schools have all run into trouble because of their QB play. Mark Richt at Miami has a 3 star in his 5th year and two 4 stars behind him who haven’t performed. Jimbo Fisher had Malik Henry, Deondre Francois, James Blackman, and Bailey Hockman who are all 4 stars and they suck at QB. The best QB in Florida was ranked 1,161 in his class (McKenzie Milton). Ian Book had one power 5 offer and he’s a top 10 QB in the FBS. Coaches are trying to fill their QB rooms with as much talent as possible and would probably love to have all 4 stars in there but a lot of times they don’t work out. I think if you told ND fans you could have a QB room of composite scores of... .9982, .9684, .9435, .9202, and a .9048 coming out of high school, fans would be ecstatic, but that’s Shea Patterson, Dylan McCaffrey, Brandon Peters, Joe Milton, and Cade McNamara and up until this season and the Patterson transfer, they were a train wreck at QB!

WHAT? Lol

You know that Jeff was born, raised, played, coached in Louiville, right?

Selling your sole by returning to your alma mater / dream school? I bet that he would take the job even if were equal pay... (he deserves more money though, so glad he'll get it).

It appears Brohm is staying at Purdue.

"I want Louisville to do what's best for them," Brohm said after Purdue's 28-21 win at Indiana, which made the Boilers bowl-eligible at 6-6. "I'm a fan. But right now, I'm the coach at Purdue. This is where I want to be and I like it here."

Brohm called the reports linking him to Louisville "pure speculation" and said he has talked with Purdue players about the situation and "will continue to be honest with my team."

Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore told Rivals.com that Brohm told the team "there's nothing to worry about" regarding his future.

Read where there is a rumor about UoL contacting Mizzou HC, which would support Brohm's statement. Not sure which HC position is better UoL or Mizzou?

"But right now, I'm the coach at Purdue. This is where I want to be and I like it here."

"But right now" must have been specific to the day he said that.

The fans are the ones that end up footing the bill with coaching contracts inflating out of control. I'd hate to be AD at Purdue and have to bootstrap the coaching staff in December. Need some damn nice cleats to get traction with recruits before the early signing period. Especially with these young kids and their flip-flops. Shoe is a helleva problem.

Tip your waitress'.

This could be the biggest opening of the off season. Get a coach that doesn't run that garbage triple option and they would never have to leave the state for recruiting. The right coach will have that team being the top dog in the ACC Coastal by year 2.

Are we sure the GT cares about football? Besides, I'd be way more scared of Ken N than Paul Johnson at Tech.

They even had their moments with PJ... GT is a warm blanket program for me, what I mean by that is they were interesting and good when I was a kid. I enjoyed watching them play so there is a nostalgia about them for me when they are good. I'd like to see them make a good hire here.

Stanford clearly doesn't but they are still successful at it. GT could become a real issue for ND if they get a good coach and get results. They could be the Stanford of the south.

This person disagrees with you. They make a pretty good argument also.
