Celebrity Recruiting

So, I am watching Mr. & Mrs. Smith with two big ND Football fans in Vince Vaughn and Brad Pitt and it got me thinking. Why doesn't Brian Kelly reach out to these guys or any celebrity to help him recruit? Is this a recruiting violation of any kind?

Vince Vaughn always rocks ND gear.

Saw him at a few games in my time there. After Old School, he was legendary. I, personally, thought he was the man after Swingers.

Help in what way?

Vince Vaughn mentioning ND in "The Break-Up" is great publicity for the program but it's not like Kelly can send him to Von Bell's house to recruit.

Snoop and Ferrell are often spotted at USC games... We have Taylor Swift. lol

But in reality, just having famous fans rock ND gear and follow the program in general is cool.

What if Vince Vaughn calls up Von Bell and says...

"Baby, this is Vince Vaughn. I played Jamie O'Hara in Rudy. I was in Swingers with Favreau, Wedding Crashers with Owen. Baby, you got to go to Notre Dame. Maybe wear the Blue the Gold. Don the pads where Montana played. Sometimes wear the green. Maybe play 'just the tip' with the St. Mary's girls. Listen, baby, I go to the games. I want to see Von Bell in ND Stadium. What, you going to go to Ohio State? Play for *** Chin? Get your mind out of the gutter. You're better than that. Go to ND. Look, there's nothing wrong with letting the country know you're money and you want to party at Notre Dame. I gotta go. Aniston calling me about the Breakup 2"

Wouldn't this work?

Are you telling me Will Farrell didn't make phone calls for Pete Carroll?

I know this is a wild idea, but this has to totally work, right? Which is why I am asking if this would be a recruiting violation of any kind?

We actually have standards and follow recruiting rules. I'm pretty sure celebrities can't recruit for you. Otherwise every single great NFL player would be getting paid by their former university to "talk" to potential players. It would spiral out of control very quickly. Heck even current players have restrictions on how/when they can contact recruits. It's best, as someone mentioned, to let the Vince Vaughn's of the world rock our gear and be fans.

Joe McKnight was all set to go to Alabama, until he talked to Reggie Bush and Bush assured him that there wouldn't be any stuff coming down on USC anytime soon. That was when Reggie was a Saint and Joe was a High School kid in New Orleans and that came from Joe's mouth when people asked why he had USC at the top when Alabama had been the leader for most of his recruitment.

This is most definitely a recruiting violation.

Hypothetically speaking, what if he was a paid employee or consultant of the university?

Rick Ross wears ND stuff a lot and had a couple mentions in his lyrics.

I remember hearing that Reggie Bush picked USC over ND because of a Will Ferrell phone call in which Ferrell told him emphatically, "You're my boy Blue."

Wouldn't Rick Ross being a ND fan loose him some "convict" respect?

I also had no idea Vince Vaughn was a ND fan. Good on him.

Only countable coaches (Head Coach & 9 assistant position coaches) certified by the NCAA can recruit per NCAA Bylaws.

You can check it out through ncaa.org, or call UND Compliance Office at 574-631-9647, or email UND at ncaacomp@nd.edu.

Not for football, but I think if Nicholas Sparks wrote a book about ND it would help our school a lot.
