Held the vaunted Wolfpack to just 10 points!! This is the Nevada Wolfpack were talking about here, the one coached by star Weis pupil Brian Polian! The fighting Kaepernicks!! Safe to say I think VanGorder crushed all doubts and assured himself as the heir-apparent to Brian Kelly!!

Not sure if you're joking since no italics but they needed overtime to beat Cal Poly last week and only put up 24 in regulation.

We don't know if he is joking or not. But there is one thing we do know.

He's joking.

Yes Cal Poly. Do me a favor and repeat that: CAL POLY!! The Mustangs!! The fighting John Maddens!!! In 1980 they won the Div II national championship!!! Think about that, thats more DII nat'l tittles than ND, Bama, USC, and Oklahoma combined!!!

Furman held MSU to 28. If we let them score 25, we have MAJOR issues.

I shouldn't even have to say this, but I think MSU will be just a little more up for playing a night game at Notre Dame than they were for Furman. Furman, WTF is that even?

Wouldn't mind Utah's DC, they always have a pretty good D

That U of U D is because of the head coach...Whitingham. He's like Gary Patterson...he has a coordinator, but its his D. The current Utah Dc...Morgan Scalley...first year. Would need him to go somewhere else and be successful before I'd buy him, as he played at the U of U, and has only coached there...

...had hoped ND would try for Sitake (now HC at BYU)...too late now. Plus he is LDS so I think he was always going to take the BYU gig. He is a bad dude.

True. But we also didn't give up 50 in regulation to Texas but we keep using that number to bash our DC and the D.

I expected no less from you during football season.

Friends who schedule weddings on Saturdays in the fall are no friends at all.

What's surprising was there wasn't a post last week about "what wedding gift to buy?"

His partner must not be a football fan, and he also must wear the pants... I'm sure, for koons sake, he has nice abs though.

I'm not a fan of BvG but we also need to give credit where it's due. It's not impressive holding Nevada, even if the QB was missing open receivers, but the D got the job done. We're talking about results when we give up 50 to Texas. Well, they got results yesterday. I'm not sold but at least the defense looked alright yesterday. Still a lot of question marks and some should be answered this Saturday.

Out past 3 defensive coordinators:

1) Tenuta --- in your face exotic blitz package
2) Diaco --- bend but don't break emphasis on fundamentals
3) BVG --- in your face exotic blitz package

I think I've decided I'm a bend but don't break fundamentals advocate.

It works in college because most teams are incapable of completing a full 80 yd drive without some mistakes.

Brilliant/smart people make difficult concepts simple. I don't care how "exotic" BVG's system is, if it can't be explained and executed by the players, it needs an overhaul.

No one should be second guessing their assignments, just play fast and keep at least one safety playing deep.

I get borderline aroused when watching Alabama play defense. Their performance against USC was bone-jarring. Player were flying downhill. I understand they have exceptional athletes but I believe their system is very good.

Correct. College football teams don't need NFL defenses because most college offenses aren't really that good. Just play consistent and give your athletes a chance to make plays. Especially when you can score points like we do.

Psst, who's the only one who didn't lose to Navy as ND DC (not as an ass poor clock manager).

This is how I feel about BVG. There's the old saying "he's playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers". It's usually meant as a complement but it really doesn't work if you're trying to win a game of checkers.

Losing Crawford (again) really hurts.

I think using some of the young guys, (Studstill, Elliot, Vaugh, Love, Coney, and even, yes, Coleman) helps a lot.

They were recruited for BVG's defense and it shows. If they grow up fast, get experience, I bet we will all find his defense improves dramatically.

Last year losing Jones and Crawford, broke the back, on the defense progressing during the season.

This year, one more year down the road, the stupidity of some of the players, and the repeat loss of Crawford, put a lot of stress on the situation, especially with such young players, but if the kids grow canines, the defense may be rabid yet this year.

Last years losses stopped the defense cold.

This year's losses have been greater to date, Crawford, Redfield, Coney's stupidity, White's incredible stupidity, etc., but the defense is showing signs. The coaches should be :

PS., Was that Drue Tranquil who actually changed direction and ran to cover a receiver (without stopping to flip his hips and fix his bustle), Saturday? That may be the first example caught on video of one of these kids who never did it right in coverage showing textbook form. Nice deflection, Drue!

It was. And it was a nice deflection. But after watching the replay I'd bet you all the vbucks it was pure luck. Guy had no idea where the ball was, just stuck his arm out and happened to make contact.
Now, you make your own luck. So good hustle on his part to be in position to make the play. But textbook it wasn't.

Yeah, his head was completely turned around. He had no idea where the ball was.

But it went our way!

Bag of Dicks

Bag of Dicks

None of you guys thought of this yet?

Kentucky football fan sends defensive coordinator DJ Eliot a bag of penis candy | Kentucky Sports Radio

After Kentucky was outscored 72-7 in the last six quarters, defensive coordinator DJ Eliot is taking a lot of heat. Eliot’s unit, which we knew would be vulnerable in spots, is ranked 123rd out of the 128 teams in college football in total defense with 1,084 yards allowed, an average of 542 per game. Yikes.

Several fans are calling for Eliot’s head, and one fan went as far to send him a bag of…well, dicks. KSR regular @JaxTeller_KY sent Eliot a bag of penis-shaped gummy candy via the website DicksByMail.com. Here’s a screenshot of his order:

Unfortunately, Jax got the shipping address wrong, listing the old Nutter Training Center instead of the new football training center. He’ll need to edit that if he wants Eliot to receive the…err, package.

I always figured it was one of those phrases that came from a creative drill instructor.

I've always been intrigued by the entomology of "bag of smashed a$$holes" my RDC used often when I went through.
