Trust me if Freeman ever does this the ND fans storm they field too. Unfortanetly that won’t be happening due to the kaka coaching
So you honestly thought that in year 1, Freeman would be more than the coach that BK is? Very few people would argue that point. I will argue though on who has the more likely chance at a title. BK isn't a leader. Saban is a leader. Dabo is a leader. You can always tell who the team will follow thru he'll and back. BK is a figurehead that has experience and smarts. He's like the old director close to the corner office but never can quite get there and always blames his employees. We all know that guy.

BK was 4-5 at one point his first season with losses to Navy and Tulsa, which is worse than the current stretch.

BK is an unlikable asshole that was more tolerated by the fanbase than embraced.

Did you see the LSU game today? Kelly’s Post Game Presser?? BK is killin it.

But to answer your question. Team was ranked #5 PreSeason. You do know that right????

So called ND Analysts at IB thought Kelly was an inept HC and without Kelly, Freeman would take ND to next level. Predicted a 1 loss season. Laughable.

I’ll second that. It doesn’t work at any level. You have to be able to get after these kids and hold them accountable. Not hold their hands.
You can be nice and still drive accountability. EI is a real thing. Rewatch the UT Bama game last week. Saban was being way softer than a game versus Vandy. Why? His EI is thru the roof and he knows he has to be a different leader in different situations. BK is a king, not a leader. Big difference.

Stop blaming Freeman for our pre-season ranking. We all know pre-season rankings are bullshit, and that we had lost our QB, our best RB and our leading receiver. Most of us predicted 9-3 or 10-2 - which is not top five, more like #10 - based on an assumption that our new quarterback would be good and not get knocked out for the season in the second game. But now here we are.

I love Kelly’s ego. You need a big ego to run a elite program.

You do know Players’ Coach never works, right?? Give me an example of a nice HC that has a Top program???

BK has the huge ego despite being an eternal bridesmaid, that is never the bride.

Sure he has won lots of games, but has never won one when the chips are all sitting squarely in the middle of the table.

This is a fact, and sometimes the truth hurts.

Dabo, Pete Carroll immediately jump to mind. Ryan Day is much closer to those two than BK as well.
Dabo is about as different to Freeman as it gets. Watching him on the sideline today, he is a master game manager, loud, confident, he’s the man. So high energy and interactive. His kids could be down by 50 and he’d still be running all over the field. His kids believe in him. He was born to coach. He’s not “nice”, he’s just not unlikable it seems.

I think Notre Dame just breeds softness, tameness, Ivy League mentality and a sense of football just not being important. This comes from the top down. Heck, even the fans are tame.

Thats why there isn't any raging intensity with our players. No sense of urgency. No swagger or attitude.

That's different than whether he's a "player's coach" though. That's the experience and confidence of being a successful head coach for a decade. Freeman may well get there. He's just not there right now.

Freeman has said on multiple occasions he leans on Jim Tressel heavily. It's no mistake his actions mimick JT. I would take JT over BK 10 times out of 10.

You would have thought we would see some improvement and imo he’s the same guy we saw week one.

Who should ND have hired? Fickell? And BK wasn't fired. People here post as though ND fired him with no plan to replace him.

I was not a huge BK fan. He was fine, but I saw plenty of bad losses, too. Freeman's had some bad losses. Okay. Maybe BK will win a natty and NY6 games at LSU. Or maybe he will go 11-1 and 10-2 and 8-5 and not do so. Like at ND. We'll see, I guess. He's playing Saban again next week.

Most kids who attend ND will have other options in life outside of football. I know coaches who recruit kids whose only chance in life for success is their sport. They would literally die if the sport was taken from them. I think that is the difference between ND and those SEC programs. The kids sacrifice their bodies way more than I see on the field at ND. I am not saying ND kids don't play hard, but the level of hit is different on the field.

I’m astounded at the BK-stans since he’s left b/c I don’t remember that many when he was the HC at ND. The guy turned ND around and left as the winningest HC in ND history. To that I congratulate him & thank him for the job he did. I wish him well at LSU b/c in a way it validates his top ranked teams during his time at ND.

All that being said, if BK was here this year he’d be saddled w/ the same QBs as MF is. What does BK do specifically to will Buchner & Pyne to play better in the Marshall/Stanford games? I thought Rees would be the worst starter to come out of the BK era but it’s looking like Pyne will take that mantle. Can anyone provide a compelling argument that BK being HC this season would guarantee those wins over Marshall & Stanford?

And where were those BK stans two weeks ago when LSU got drilled by Tennessee? They beat Ole Miss and all of a sudden BK is going to win a national championship. Really?

It's possible that neither Freeman nor BK is good enough to win a NC.

Talk to me when Kelly wins a playoff game. Ole Miss is akin to NC State of 2017. It's great and makes you feel good at the moment. But then there comes the reminder that BK is nothing more that a really good coach. I don't want really good. I want exceptional. I am willing to roll the dice to ge there. BK has his ceiling. His short and pudgy statute will never get him thru it.
Well you rolled the dice and came up craps! Thanks for ruining our 10 win season!!!

If freeman wins out like Kelly did that year and punish a favored USC team in the road all is forgiven. Ain’t happnin! I was planning on buying 15 tickets to that game when I thought we would be worth a shit but thank god I did not! We suck mich more than Kelly’s first year and big Tommy Rees was out boy back then. Rees was a much better QB than Pyne any day. We are a good QB away from 6-1 maybe even 7-0 but this place can’t get a top 25 QB. Kelly was a very good HC which means we would be 6-1 right now with a nice bowl win last year.
