These just set us back years. I’ll imagine we’ll see a significant drop off.
lol, you are amongst the most negative "fans" I've ever seen.

Holtz won a title at ND because he was a good coach, great communicator and a relentless recruiter. Saban is built with the same cloth. You need someone who demands that excellence from the players and the staff, and lives it too. For ND to be where they want to be, they need someone like that. Fickell may be that, he may not be, but I think he could at least keep the ND train from derailing But that's not what I want personally. Freeman shows the elite signs of relating with the players, recruiting at the highest levels and genuinely being a man that people would be proud to be associated with. There are very few sure things and no matter what ND does at this point, it's going to be a risk. But if I am betting on someone, I am betting on someone who has the traits and who has demonstrated their ability in person. I am 100% in camp Freeman.
FWIW, Hafley just got an extension.

As far as I’m concerned dude left this program in great shape to succeed. It’s up to the school to find a guy to keep it going and take the next step.
Four other words:
Lincoln Riley
Ryan Day

It’s the way he is leaving.
What position coaches go with him? Did he talk with Freeman to team up for a year in South Bend and then go to LSU together?
What would Freeman (or, really, LSU) owe ND to also bolt for LSU?
I'm with you on everything here but people can conceal who they really are for quite some time professionally and maybe he truly hasn't revealed himself or he hasn't been tested to find out if he's true to himself. I guess that's the risk with hiring a young guy.
I wouldn't make the decision based solely on this year's class but the roster overall has to be considered. His willingness to recruit like a dog is why I would take a shot on him. It's the worst part of the job and he's loving every minute of it. He's going to be insane on the trail and everyone on the staff will have to meet his standard. Can't let your boss outwork you. Elevating recruiting is the only thing keeping ND from winning a title. That has to be a deciding factor with this hire and nobody is going to do better than Freeman in that regard.

Mick Assaf has a live chat... Lots of former ND players in the room as well.
Eli Raridon on the call now. Says he is locked in and if it's Freeman, he is saying the class is 100%
So Trace Armstrong & BK got wind from Bears CEO, Ted Phillips (ND alum) that they are going to reunite Ryan Day with Fields in Chicago. This sends Fickell to Columbus and Kelly loses Freeman to Cincy.
Kelly doesn't want to, nor could he fill the Freeman vacuum that quickly with anything close in quality. With Freeman gone, ND's '22 & '23 classes take a serious hit and the end of his run at ND trends the wrong way.
Either deal with all that again for the fourth time since BVG... or take #13M at LSU and leave ND set up with Freeman in it's best shape since Devine took over.
