I don’t blame him for taking that much money, I blame him for how he’s doing it. Like I said I was always a big BK fan but I hope he fails miserably in the SEC

I feel bad for a guy like Elston.

BK has now sold his soul. No time for nice guy assistants. He had better hire some damn good assistants.

This is why people make fun of ND for being so nice and naive in a cutthroat business

There could be if this drags on. OU looks to have made their move and they were equally as blinsided. ND needs to move now to get it done. I think Freeman should be the guy. It's a gamble, but I think it's a bigger gamble to allow him and Rees to walk (which they will) while trying to find your prefect fit. Freeman will be fine, just make the move and get out of the way.

No one "walks" from a job unless they get a better offer. I guarantee ND admin is in a war room now with the remaining coaches trying to lock them down until a hire is decided upon. Then the new head coach will retain whoever he wants at the helm.

People have been complaining about Kelly all. fucking. season and now he's gone so I'm surprised some on this board aren't happier.

I am fine with it. The timing of it is what is quasi messing it up. BK was never going to win a championship at ND and that is what the goal is. I am thankful for his work and for getting the program to where they are. But when he just literally (by all accounts) ghosts his assitants, it leaves a feeling for every man for himself vibe. Freeman can go to OSU tomorrow (they will likely ask). Rees was mentioned for a few lower level HC jobs. The combination of timing and a disorderly departure would unwind what BK has done the last few years, which we can't let happen.

He is not ready. He's been a D coordinator for one year at a power 5 level school. No way. ND isn't a school to cut your teeth on as a head coach anyway, let alone a guy with such little coordinator experience.

Brian Kelly wrecked that plan.

I'm sorry but it really doesn't matter if he's ready. I keep reading myopic shit that implies that the most important thing right now is panickedly finding the perfect long term coach. It's not. The most important thing is keeping the '22 class together we have two weeks until signing day and were blindsided. You are going to set the program back YEARS if you lose this class.

Much easier to just promote Freeman and if he struggles you start looking for that "perfect" coach. Costs you nothing. Swinging for the fences on this hire or landing a guy with no proven recruiting chops can cost you everything.

Bob Stoops won't come because ND won't work with him. LSU just hired away our guy that didn't mind ND not working with him.
See how ND screws itself and is hopelessly behind the times?

Working with him on what? Salary? We renovated the stadium, built a new indoor facility, etc., etc.

If we don’t keep most of this class plus transfers we will be set back 4 years!

Now really isn't the time

Just trying to lighten the mood a bit. ND will be fine. It’s still a destination job. Yes, the timing isn’t great… but it never really is. While it stinks having to look for a new HC this close to signing day, I would rather go at it optimistically with the desire to start a new and potentially better next chapter in ND football.

Need a guy like Freeman to keep this thing together.

This mouth breather clearly made this decision without any warning and the players feel betrayed. Need someone with charisma to make sure this doesn't get ugly in terms of transferring/recruiting.

Call me naive but I can’t get over the fact that coaches were out recruiting and they found out like the rest of us. Shouldn’t be surprising to me with how it went down in Cincinnati but whatever. Brian Kelly is a bitch

promote freeman and let’s see what happens

What a glorious night! The future is finally bright. Good riddance you soft pile of ….

We will no longer be the place where quarterbacks go to die.

100 million /7 years wow good for him. LSU ‘s 4th choice cost them a decade of setbacks. Yikes!

GO IRISH!!!!

Forget about BK screwing us with the timing. Leukemia in any other job, leaving one job to take another is never pretty. The timing is normally bad. LSU dangles $15 mill and you can either say yes or no. They aren’t going to wait until after early signing day. They need someone now. Just like we aren’t going to tell the new coach “take your time deciding until after your bowl game. Not going to happen.
