Impressive. Winning is all that matters at the end of the day, but how many do you think were squeakers against shitty teams, ala BC last year?

Well considering that this measurement goes back 15 years, well before he was with the Irish, it's a pretty impressive stat, and it puts him at the top of a list of some very impressive coaches.

Very happy about this. Can't neg recruit this angle anymore and we get to keep a coach who has brought stability to the program. Now let's hope we become a minimum 10-win team for the next 6 years.

We've only been a 10 win team 2 of his 6 years.

He is our version of John Cooper, Earle Bruce, Fred Akers or Bo Pelini. Fans wear out of these types of mediocre coaches eventually. Pretty much all of them eventually get fired.

You shut your filthy fvcking sewer. In 6 games, Brian Kelly has already beaten Michigan as many times as John Cooper did in 13 games.

How many people have coached for 15 years? I know that Kirk Ferentz and Bob Stoops are the 2 longest serving CFB head coaches. Both took over in 1999. They're going into their 17th year.

That's not even getting into the fact that it counts Kelly's D2 wins the same as FBS wins.

I didn't look back through Kelly's record in 4 point games but I did for Holtz out of curiosity.

Lou was 11-10 in his ND career with an impressive 1 pt win over ARMY in '95.

He also lost the opener that year to the Mildcats when the Northwerstern had a 2 pt lead with ND in possession on the last drive of the game. ND got down inside the 10. Then Powlus took the snap and pivoted to drop back when the ND center or guard stepped back onto Powlus's pivot foot sending him sprawling ... game over.

Lou also had a miserable loss to Air Force in '96 when ND rushed for about 60 some yds the week after rushing for 260 or so against UW in a romp over the ranked Huskies. The crusher in the AF game was when ND had the ball to start OT and Powlus was blindsided and fumbled for a turnover. Everybody remembers the Powlus fumble but few recall that ND's left tackle a 300 pounder was tossed to the ground by a 240 pound Falcon DE leaving him an unimpeded blindside blowup of Powlus. The next week against Navy in Croke Park, Holtz shook-up the OLine starting a freshman DL, Jim Jones at RG.

I really hope that you find some other Irish site more to your liking than here...........

It didn't say 15 years with the same team. It's just 15 years. PLENTY of D-IA coaches have been Head Coaches for 15 years or more.

And the stat is about the ability to win close games. Kelly's numbers from D-II count.

Part II

Part II

I look at Kelly's 4 pt games (wins and losses) over 6 years. He had 26 games winning 15 or .577.

Kelly has a much higher percentage of close (4 pt win or loss) games than Holtz did, 16/78 games for 33% versus 21/132 games or 15.9% better than twice as frequent.

Soo, as offenses and defenses and opponents vary over the seasons I compared the Scoring Differential for Holt'sz 11 seasons and Kelly's 6. Holtz annual Scoring Differential (Pts scored - pts allowed) was 168 or 14 pts/game for a Holtz average season of 12 games. Kelly's teams have an annual Scoring Differential of 100 pt or 7.7 pts/game for a Kelly average season of 13 games.

No surprise that Kelly is in more close games as his scoring differential is 45% less/game or 6.3 pts/game than Holtz's.

Didn't do a very good job covering his tracks with his registration email or posting IP (though he did spoof his registration IP, so at least he tried).

Miami fan. Must not have enjoyed getting his shit pushed in every time we've played them this decade.

Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, etc ALL count their 1AA wins as WINS.

So do the voters.

Kelly hasn't played a 1AA team since he left Cincinnati. UC played one 1AA foe a year which would make them a slacker by SEC norms.

Miami ... where Al Golden gets fat with annual wins over Bethune-Cookman.
