Part of me wants to listen just out of curiosity, but less than two months until the season starts, I'm kind of "meh" on the whole thing. Made my peace with it.

I won’t be listening and don’t really care what he has to say. He’s someone that many players are on record saying they didn’t like. Always made excuses about why they/he couldn't recruit better. Almost always pissed his pants when the lights were brightest.

Hey, if he wants to reconcile, I'm all for it. No politician speak though. Come hard with how you were wrong, and you're sorry.

Yeah, I have no interest. We are in the better place and the dude helped lay the foundation. It does irritate me the amount of excuses he used in regards to recruiting. He trained and convinced much of the fan-base he was the ceiling. Different aisle crap always pissed me off.

Didnt listen... but read the article on the Athletic.

Someone needs to tell BK that you can never go home again. Even now, he just doesnt get it. He still thinks he is the smartest guy in the room and that its all about him. No one cares whether he supports the program or not.

I listened to it. A good interview. Completely praising guys like Marcus, Clark Lea, Mike Denbrock, the Holtz family, NDs new facilities, LaFleur, Minter, several "old" players --- hard to find any negative words anywhere, and though questions were awkward to answer, he managed to throw no-one under any bus. (Especially tricky was his praise of the Notre Dame academic attitude without dissing LSU.) But ... as everyone here knows, I have "forever" taken the stance of him really helping my school, and simply getting too old with the job so having to move on. Interviewers seemed to more or less see it that way by interview's end as well.

It is Freeman's call if he wants to have Kelly around preseason camp even for a few hours. I'll trust his judgment there. The vast majority of the roster never played for him and most of the staff never coached with him. As a fan, to me, it's whatever.

I think Onye is the only player left that played for him. I could be wrong though

Yeah that ain’t happening. Just watching the clip shows you’re going to get 100% politician speak. I suspect it’ll be similar to his interviews w/ Finebaum but more relaxed.

I enjoy the optics. Unemployed coach comes back to visit school he left behind to speak with inexperienced new coach that is on the verge of taking the program further than anyone since Lou.

Personally I can move forward with my fandom knowing Kelly supports the program... It is a giant relief for me.

The way he left was bad enough. But the thing that really cemented things for me was how the former players talked about him. Now was some of that bitterness or exaggerated? Probably. But it didn't seem like his guys don't really like him much.

Happy he came to ND and left it much better than he found it. But you can't leave the way he did and expect people to be super pumped to have him back around

You guys can skewer me all you want for this take, but if the winningest head coach in program history who left on poor terms wants to come back and make things right and be a positive light for the program and current administration, I don't see how that is a bad thing.

The way he left was dirty. It sucked and it hurt. It was also the best possible outcome for all involved.

As a young(er) generation ND fan, the 2010s were the first real taste of football success I ever got to enjoy. The biggest win in my lifetime before BK showed up was also the same one that got Charlie Weis a ten-year contract extension....a 2005 loss to USC. The guy is scummy, I get it and I don't fault people for holding ill will toward him, but I appreciate what he did taking this program out of the dirt and laying the foundation for what it is currently. This current run doesn't happen without 2017-2021 happening first

I listened. What really struck me was him saying not once but twice that this has given him and his wife the time to connect for the first time in 35 years. I get the college coaching schedule is insane, but thought that was a wild lack of self-awareness there since this was a puff piece.
That’s crazy. He connected with the realtor in 35 hours.
