Fickell, easy. Not that I want BK out at all, but I really think Fickell will be a good coach at whichever blue blood he coaches

just for fun. say he does go somewhere else.

whos a viable option? Bill Obrien? There is literally no one out there. That has a 'name'

How about Stoops? I know he's up there, but I believe it's been said in the past that he would crawl to ND if offered. Would the admin have him?

Cincinnati would declare war on South Bend.

lol facts

They should know their place by now.

We should steal their DC just a friendly reminder.

He recruits his balls off, and he coaches a hell of a defensive unit. The team would always be competitive.

The ceiling is determined by his offensive coordinator hire, though, which would currently mean bringing over... Mike Denbrock.

(I'd support Tommy staying as OC, Denbrock getting the UC job, and Freeman following Fickell to South Bend for a year or two.)

Cincinnati would declare war on South Bend.

Idk... Fickell built a whole lot more good will at UC than Kelly ever did, simply by virtue of spurning Michigan State last year. He could probably get away with taking a big boy job, even ND, without too many hard feelings at this point.

There are some very vocal anti-ND Cincinnatians that still lament BK "screwing those kids before the biggest game of their lives," but even most of THOSE folks have gotten over it. BK returning during ND's bye week last year to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of UC's undefeated 2009 season, and being embraced by the players from that team, helped alleviate a lot of the saltiness 10 years later.

They should know their place by now.

Glad to hear it.

I think honestly he might be a good direction to go if BK nods out after the next year or two. Especially if he really wants to be here. I think he wanted to spend time with his kids in a way that he wasn't able to as the OU coach, so maybe he'll be ready to get back in the game.

Bob Stoops publicly said that he stepped away from Oklahoma because he didn't want to die on the sidelines. We're supposed to think that ND wouldn't give him that kinda stress?

Honestly, Cincinnati should love when big dogs come in and steal their coaches. Makes finding new ones easier. Who wouldn't want to go to the school that serves as a stepping stone to bona fide big dick programs?

Its an amazing gig to cut your teeth. You are fishing with dynamite. Playing MAC level competition with B1G level players.

You are basically Iowa, and your schedule is Ball State 12 times a year.

I actually feel bad for Brian Kelly. He is a damn good coach. But with the restrictions for student athletes at Notre Dame I don’t think a national championship will ever be possible again.

For Kelly’s sake I hope he ends his career at a football factory, because he will get the national championship he deserves.

ND and Florida apparently have similar talent, but UF was competitive. We're never competitive in these games. Ever.

The talent gap is truly astonishing. I don’t know if it’s ND restrictions or Kelly’s recruiting. If Urban was the coach, what would be the recruiting results?

Face it. Kelly is a very good (not great) coach. The ND ceiling has been reached. Most elite players are thinking NFL, not college degree.

There are things ND can do to improve recruiting and player development. Listen to the most recent Irish Illustrated podcast. ND made some improvements over the past 5-10 years but is still waaaaay behind.

I don’t see Kelly leaving, and if he does it would certainly be a prestige hit for the university if it was for another school. However, if he did leave here and win somewhere else maybe it would be a wake up call for the administration as clearly it would mean that it wasn’t the coach holding us back.

Yep. 5*s matter. We have to get them if we want to win. Simple as that. Tougher to do, obviously. Urban ain’t coming but he could/would recruit much better, even with current standards. That guy was a relentless recruiter, Kelly is not.

This one isn't on Kelly. The talent gap between these teams is so massive. They have elite players all over the field at just about every position. They're just so much more talented than ND.
