Whatever happened, this team finished perfectly strong and focused after the Michigan embarassment.

Lots of teams would have dropped one more and these guys didn't. BK has some flaws that hold us back, but he's in charge and gets 100% credit for how this team rebounded and dominated.

VT was close... and I was truly worried that the wheels were going to fall off. But credit Book for that game and his tenacity.... I don't know how much BK had input on him but, Book took that game in his hands and got the win.

Amen. So many people were calling for Kelly's head after Michigan, and it did suck, but it was not indicative of where this team was. I still doubt there's a better coach for ND out there right now. Dabo and Saban may have more wins in the last 10 years, but it's impossible to predict how successful they'd be in Kelly's shoes given the same restrictions and challenges.

Agree. ND is fortunate to have Kelly, and not sure any other coach would understand and accept ND as well as him. In fact, I contend that past coaching "misses" were actually passes by coaches that know that coaching at ND is drastically more challenging than other easier and more financially rewarding options. Hope he hangs around, but also hope ND has learned from past that they need to have a plan for his exit when that time arrives.

Coach Kelly is a great coach and almost the entire sports community and the coaching fraternity knows it.

I couldn't agree more! BK is the right coach for ND right now.
It's upsetting how this board has wanted to get rid of him.
I can't wait for 2020, I think the Irish are going to surprise some, I hope Clemson comes in undefeated and we end their winning streak.

^This. Hope Clemson wins the championship this year and doesn’t lose a game until November 7th, 2020. Irish nation better hold onto their tickets and not sell them so the stadium is not all orange like UGA in 2017.

You mean, they used common sense? That's kind of what it sounds like.

If BK is a great coach, then there is an elite level above great.

As far as this team, they beat who they should've and lost the two games they were supposed to. How they lost @ UM and how they won vs SC & VT were the negative outliers, what the D did to ISU that no "elite" Big 12 team could come close to leading to the 33-9 final is the one positive outlier.

Besides that, this season went by the script.

In the end, 11-2 with a bowl win is a very good season. Great would've been beating Florida tomorrow in the Orange Bowl or Penn St in the Cotton Bowl... BUT beating ISU is far better than losing to Florida/Penn St on the other hand.

I had a great time watching the game yesterday. My chickie won the ND Club of PHX's 50/50 raffle for about $400 and I won $180 on a closest score pool between the 10 people sitting at our table. My 36-13 nosed out my buddies 42-10.

See ya next year fellas.

For them it may well have been using common sense. Being head coach at ND is not the ultimate job for most coaches. Some of today's "best" would never survive at ND. I give Kelly credit for understanding what ND is and wants to be, which is drastically different than coaching at OU, CU, the U, OSU, Bama, etc. He accepts the challenges and has done pretty well, all things considered.

So, we’re probably the best team in the Pac12 and Big12? Seems like the 15th best team in the country.

With all that he has to navigate-top3/5 coach in the country-this team is our pride but they are only an 8-12 team based on what I see in talent-his guys play with pride/heart-I myself couldn't ask for more. Saban and the other top end guys would do no better here and maybe not as good. He will be severely missed if he has to go because of Rockne's record. Go get 10 plus wins again next year-depending on who stays they could be very VERY good next year.

So discussed on a recent II podcast (wheren Sampson, Prister, and O'Malley sounded downright giddy at times) and hinted at by BKs recent remarks, there appear to be signs that ND might be taking a significant step forward in investing in the football program that will make a notable difference in recruiting and facilities going forward, which will be written into BKs upcoming extension. I know the BK comments have been discussed on here, but I wanted to see if anyone had a guess or inkling of what these contract provisions might be. As the subject of NDs "commitment" to the football program is frequently discussed here, I would guess some posters would have a good inkling of where we're lacking compared to the perinial top programs beyond the unchangeable characteristics of being ND.

I’m certainly interested to hear what it is. BK is usually pretty mindful with his remarks so to come out and say that I’d think he’s pretty confident it’s going to be significant.

Doesn't that still come under du Lac/Office of Community Standards?

Players are still Student/athletes.

They had brought this up in a podcast a few weeks ago and thought that they punishment for weed wouldn't be changed, as it's under du Lac.

id bet we are getting bill rees his own team, adding a few more staffers to the recruiting/promotional group.

Also, I thought we had some sort of rule about kids had to be academically accepted before they could OV, perhaps some rule changes like this one gets a few more kids on campus on game day.

There was reference to some changes coming in an article in The Athletic.

"Kelly said Notre Dame’s recruiting operation can begin to pull top-five classes. It likely comes with investment from the athletic department to get coaches where they need to go, when they need to go there."

IMO, BK has been building the program and providing proof to the administration that an investment in the FB program doesn't mean you have to sell your soul to the devil to have a top ten team most years.

One thing Sampson has talked about a ton is the fact that ND assistant coaches always fly commercial. That makes it difficult to get to a recruit on time. The investment would be to have charter flights for assistants, at the very least on the outbound leg.

I know his team is currently losing, but if BK were to retire in the next 3 years, I wouldn't mind seeing ND make a run at Chryst. I think the offense he runs would thrive here and Wisky always plays good defense.

Is BK likely to get a statue at the stadium or is that reserved for national championship winners?
If he has committed to standing aside in the next 2 or 3 years then he might not have time even on this trajectory of improved recruiting.
Where I am going with this is we should make it clear to him that even if he does not win the natty if he hands over to someone who goes on to win It off the back of his hard work then he still goes down in ND folklore.

I've never been all that impressed with the passing attack from Wisconsin. He has Graham Mertz, right? Let's see how he develops. Tho that rushing game would be excellent.

Also I think Chryst is from Wisconsin and probably is an alum. Not sure he'd leave for any reason.
