Not to be a Kelly defender but his 2 losses are on the road vs top 15 teams. idk how you can say the wheels are falling off at this point.
I would agree but the optics are pretty bad on him coming into this season with very loft expectations. I would say he and the team have not met those up to this point and he’s feeling the heat right now. We’ll have to wait and see how LSU goes for the rest of the season. If they have 1 or 2 more losses, the fan base and media will be all over him.

I‘d much rather have a CEO that keeps their head as calm as possible in the heat. I never doubt that MF hates to lose and is ultra-competitive. You only have to go back to the locker room scene when he greeted the team after he was hired. Making himself and the staff accountable for everything that occurs on the football field is what true leaders do, especially in the public view. I can promise you that he and the staff hold the players accountable in their own way.

Saban has figured away to do both. Some times people feed off emotion. If freeman gets amped I would be.

I haven’t been to see him as the HC in person but I’d bet he shows some fire on those sidelines when the camera isn’t on him. We see relatively little of his time on the telecast. I also don’t think he is likely to completely lose his cool in anger and start throwing his clipboard or headphones to the ground. Saban gets a bit more leniency since he’s looked at as the GOAT, maybe a little different perspective. Trent Dilfer completely lost his shit on Saturday vs. Tulane, if you get a chance, check it out online. Just to be clear, I get where you’re coming from……some emotion is good if it motivates your team, sometimes that gets a great response.

The joke fell how I wanted on this board, which is it's intended target. He hasn't won shit since getting his nicer "facilities". Winning the west ain't shit. If that keeps your dick hard, then please keep Kelly forever. We'll continue with the jokes.

Since you take umbrage with me putting my scope on Kelly, allow me to formally place my scope on your dome: GFY. Go talk shit somewhere else. This is an Irish football forum where we have enough to worry about with an anemic offense and two brutally close weeks with two more contested games waiting for us in successive weeks.

The last thing I need is some LSU-loverboy carrying water for Kelly after he put ND on blast. Kindly GFY.

You're taking it completely out of context. Kelly largely inherited a mess. In his first year, despite some flaws, he largely overachieved and won the SEC West. When you say that "winning the west ain't shit", I take it that you're ignoring that in the past 20 years:
  • 9 National Champions won the SEC West; and
  • 5 finished as runner-ups.
Point being, in the past couple of decades, winning the west typically meant you had a great season.

Again, most, if not all, would say he overachieved last year. Now, with the expectations raised, most, if not all, would say Kelly has woefully underperformed this year. To be 3-2 just into the month of October is a considerable failure - the fans have expressed that as much.

In regard to the "facilities" comment, all I meant by that is that in this day and age, you've got to have that. That's it. There's a reason why schools like Oregon, which produce little to no talent, have been playing great football in the past 20 years or so. Recruits like that. It's an "arms race" and you'd be negligent not to address it. Shit, Nebraska just announced a $450MM investment in its stadium.

Lastly, I'm far from a Kelly lover boy. He's got good traits, and he certainly has his flaws. I've said it before, he's a 9-3, 10-2 type coach. I've also said that with the forthcoming Playoff expansion, I don't trust him to be able to win multiple games in a row against elite competition. I've also said that I thought he was brought in to inject much needed stability in the program. Again, I've never implied he's one of the few elite coaches - I've previously made that clear in notating that there is a considerable gap between Saban and Smart between the rest of the coaches within the SEC.

If we lock this thread, Foxbeard goes away..... He clearly has been bounced by LSU Boards.

No one cares anymore. I have stop caring for this guy too. Lock the thread and stop feeding the BK lovers. I think only an LSU fan remains.

....a couple of hours pass...

Just saw Kelly's post game presser. Wow ... the Honeymoon is definitely over. He looked like an onery old neighbor..... He looked uncomfortable and angry at the Press. Perhaps he should breath in and think about his bank account balance...that would make him smile.

He looked worse than he ever did at ND. I think he knows he won't ever get a Title...anywhere...... reality setting in.

Just like a moth to the flame, you can't get enough. ;)

Freeman seems to be active. What I mean by that is he was I the huddle before every series didn’t matter if it was offense, defense or special teams and would then run back to the side line. But that was the Boston college game last year. So it was a bit chilly and we were whipping them so he might have been trying to stay warm.

Hope you had a bonfire near your seat during that game 🤣

As a year two HC we should all expect there to be a learning curve as far as team ops and publicity go. I’m less forgiving on fundamental things any team should do correctly but after 40 years coaching BK is STILL throwing players under the bus and simply isn’t at fault for anything…. It’s refreshing to see MF take accountability for errors and mistakes.

It's nice, as long as the small things keep getting cleaned up as he learns, which I have no reason to believe it won't... as long as they watched the Duke film and all came to the collective conclusion that letting Freeman make the call that they'd run it, call a timeout, and try a long field goal for the win, without anyone saying "wait a minute now" was a COLOSSAL error lol.

On the flip side, you do have BK, at LSU, with the benefit of fertile home-ground recruiting and the transfer portal with what I assume to be no restrictions, answering questions about the defense with "there is nobody else walking through that door, we have a bunch of young guys that are learning"

With the caveat that I don't have the whole context... seems an awful lot like one of the many opportunities BK has to talk about his staff and his plan in a very vanilla way, but instead talks about the limitations of his current roster. Shocking!

Yes of course we need them to clean those up and learn from them. I just mean that we should all understand that there will be things that MF simply hasn’t seen or had to deal with before due to his inexperience or leaning on his staff to handle without errors.

“Inherited a mess” … lmao … he’s got the same access to the transfer portal as everyone else and is in Year 2. He inherited top ranked recruiting classes.

Looks like LSU fans already got that Stockholm Syndrome going.

Narrator: The mess proved to be too big our hero Brian. After three seasons, he was run out of town, and found solace going back to GVSU, where dreams of big time football started for him….

And…? All looks pretty spent on? Obvious anger and disappointment with the Ohio State ending and the pretty much the entire second half of the Duke game. Obviously, you’re cherry picking all the negative / angry posts as well.
Cherry picking? Internet ink just ran low from printing all of the quotes he just copied and pasted.

Ehh … sadly, for a lot of the fan base, we can go 1-11 as long as that win is against Alabama. It’s odd.

I also don’t expect you all to pull for Kelly at LSU. I understand and nothing unusual about that at all. I also think you’re spot on with the 10-win season / losses against top - 10 teams. I’ve said that multiple times.
Yeah you keep telling yourself that. I’ll wait for you to come back in late Nov w a record of 7-5 w a win against Bama and tell us how good you feel about the job he’s done. And bring the receipts from the Tiger Toilet site proving how happy the rest of the base is.

Again, the majority of those were from the second half of the Duke game. Frustrations were at a high. Feel free to go back and poke around in that thread...the overwhelming majority were venting as well.

7-5 with a win over Alabama...at this point, with that defense, I'd take it. The defense is not going to magically get any better this season. It's the worst I've seen. They've got major talent discrepancies out there. They look fat, slow, tired, and soft. That's disappointing because LSU has largely prided itself on playing good defense.

A major portion of the fanbase is done with Kelly. A notable size lost their minds when he was hired. Many were upset last year after we lost to A&M - as if we had a real shot to beat Georgia in the SEC Championship. It's a turbulent fanbase, what can I tell ya.

That said, at this point, I simply wait too long for college football. Mid-January - end of August is a long, rough stretch, and I'm not going to let a couple of games lead me to becoming apathetic or cause me to not watch. Expectations are lowered and I hope we can simply "out offense" teams like the Big 12.

The most frustrating this is that this was a golden opportunity...the SEC, as a whole, is so down, and LSU is trotting out a 5th year QB, elite WRs, good RBs, and what we thought would be a respectable defense. They are so bad though...nothing (schematically or personnel) will change it.

I don't get why you think lsu shouldn't be vying for the sec. They have had one class out of the top ten that is on this team and the rest I believe were top 5. They have the best qb in the sec and the best recieving tandem. I'm not trying to be a hater I'm just confused on why lsu fans think they should have lost 2 games this year?

I mean, technically, we still are. We only have 1-conference loss and there's still a lot of important games to be play. But I'm telling you, this defense is that bad. The FSU game, shit, what can you say, we left a lot of points off the board in the first half, and FSU made adjustments at halftime and just completely and utterly dominated us in the second.

Can you imagine LSU without Jayden Daniels?

BK got lucky in the transfer portal because ASU was a dumpster fire... and we all know what BK's track record is on developing QB's.

The pertinent question is why is your defense so bad?

The majority of your starting D are transfers and the ones who aren’t (Perkins, Maason Smith) were 5 stars or top 150 guys (Saivon Jones).

The talent should be there which is why I am a little surprised BK is getting a pass on the defense being bad. Al Golden would drop kick a puppy to have Harold Perkins instead of Jordan Botelho.

Some of the transfers and guys, particularly in the secondary, are really struggling: Andre' Sam (Marshall), Zy Alexander (SE LA), Denver Harris (A&M), Duce Chestnut (Syracuse - hay played okay, but if he's 5'11, then I've got 12" dick), Major Burns (there's a reason he didn't see the field at UGA), Sage Ryan (5* that just hasn't lived up to his potential). They've switched up coverages (man and zone)...the guys just cannot do it

You've got a true freshman, Whit Weeks, playing MLB (and fuck, this kid can play, but he's still a freshman and has issues lining up and making calls).

Perkins is playing well, but Maason Smith really hasn't done much at all. He looks out of shape. Wingo has been incredible for the interior though.

It's odd because I would have said preseason that Matt House wouldn't be the issue, and that it would be Denbrock.

Many fans, still to this day, would prefer Nussmeier. He can sling it. Sadly, I wouldn't put it past some LSU fans for that preference to be solely racially motivated...

At this point I don't believe the defensive ineptitude of Kelly coached teams is on the players. Notre Dame only got decent on defense when Kelly hired one of the best coordinators in the business. When has Kelly ever really coached a team with a good defense before ND?

Can we just shut down this thread? This back and forth about BK and Forkbeard is tiresome. BK is LSU's problem and there is not a fan that wants this drivel to continue....myself included. If we shutdown this thread the LSU Trolls will leave.

This is what we're telling you. We had it for 10 years, Kelly will build a roster and put a talented team on the field but he will always have a weakness. Some years it's special teams, some years it's defense, some years it's offense. He may figure it out in his 30th or 40th year coaching, I mean eventually guys can get lucky. Look at Orgeron.

Kelly helped stabilize ND and also held the Irish back a few years because of his hires/recruiting. Our 2015 team was deadly on offense, our defense was one of the worst things I've ever seen and it had Jaylon Smith on it, who is in the group of most athletic linebackers I've ever watched.

Kelly will always have a reason why he isn't winning enough and, if LSU fans are like me, they'll see the reasonableness of his position and give him the benefit of the doubt. Kelly is a politician first and foremost.
