Father told the AP his son (older) was an angel. If I didn't have as much experience with terrorists as I have I'd be surprised. I hope we learn a lot from this.

Prayers to all Bostonians, stay safe and stay put.

Russia has largely pulled back from Chechnya when the Chechens stopped terrorizing Russia. Apparently that was a mistake.

Pretty clearly, the Russians started the violence. What would you do if the police and army came in and raped your mother, sister, wife and grandmother?

My prayers go out to all those under seige, Ironman keep you and yours safe, You to Tom Hagen! (Rhode Irish for those of you who don't really know the good man.) I know there are a couple others of you. I will be praying from work!

They all say this when bad stuff happens...just like any parent that hears that their kid does something bad.

He was not "an angel"...he's a terrorist. And was dealt with appropriately.

Which is why I made a statement saying this was typical in these type of situations. We need to keep calm and support our men and women putting themselves out there to keep all of us safe. This isn't a situation in the past tense.. we have a terrorist at large.

Oh yeah. I wasn't disagreeing with your or arguing.

Sad that parents are that detached from their kids lives. Do the parents live here?

Very interesting interview from a counter terrorism perspective on WCVB right now. Very candid. I'd quote the interview, but it's a live stream.

Anything recent? I see the family of the two boys is pretty much convinced they were set up to be fall guys, which I guess is a natural reaction in today's world where children are infallible in their parents eyes.

See the MIT thread. Lots more there.

Notre Dame, Ind. - Many University of Notre Dame athletic teams and coaches competing through the weekend will wear helmet stickers and ribbons to acknowledge the tragic events in Boston this week.

The Irish football players will wear stickers on the backs of their helmets during the Blue-Gold spring game Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium. The stickers feature a green shamrock with a blue "B" trimmed in yellow. Also wearing the stickers on their helmets this weekend will be the Notre Dame baseball, softball and men's lacrosse teams.

I guess after a little while It doesn't really matter who posts what on this thread? Bad rep me to death and a page later offer evidence to the aforementioned fact!

there's no way we (ND) continue to use "Shipping Up to Boston" by the Dropkick Murphys as our kickoff "theme song" after what happened up there.

consider the lyrics below:

"I'm a sailor peg
And I've lost my leg
I've climbed up the top sails
I've lost my leg

I'm shipping up to Boston

I'm shipping up to Boston

I'm shipping up to Boston

I'm shipping off to find my wooden leg

I'm a sailor peg

And I've lost my leg

I've climbed up the top sails

I've lost my leg

I'm shipping up to Boston

I'm shipping up to Boston

I'm shipping up to Boston

I'm shipping off to find my wooden leg"

Why? Were there any pirates maimed in the bombing?

I guess I could understand why we wouldn't continue to use it. But I kinda hope we continue to just because its about the most perfect pre-kickoff song for ND out there IMO.

You are never going to be able to make everyone happy, there will always be someone upset about something.

Cause i'm sure Boston sports teams will stop using it, huh? Amazing how over sensitive people are

Pussification of America's Youth. People are way to sensitive these days. IF someone has a view or opinion that you don't believe in, it's fine, it is not a personal attack. I am only 22 and the world is crazy different than what it was when I was 13 or 14. Kinda scary actually how fast things can change.

It's hilarious how ironic these two statements are back-to-back.

So you're offended by their opinions yes?

No I was trying to say that I don't understand why people get so butt hurt about others personal opinions. If it is your opinion why should I get mad about it and get mad at you about it. Grow up and realize that there are always different sides to any argument and that your view may not always be the most popular or politically correct. I do not see how my previous statements contradict eachother.

That's not how it read to me. It seemed like a "This is what's wrong with America, these people's opinions are that my opinions suck, people need to get over it and realize that their opinions aren't the only ones that matter." I understand what you mean now.

I actually think both sides have a valid point here. I think changing the song is a bit over-the-top, and is unnecessary because no one would likely think about it. However, I think the lyrics are more specific to the situation than people who are against changing it want to admit. I also think there is a certain anti-movement against the "pussification" that is starting to misunderstand "being nice" with "being politically correct". Maybe if ND decides that not playing Shipping Off to Boston removes an opportunity for a couple of fans who visit over the year to be reminded of the bombings, it's not ND being "politically-correct", "over-sensitive", or "bowing to pressure". Maybe they just wanted to be nice. Also, it's not like this would be some huge breach in the ND gameday experience. The song has been played for 1 full year now, hardly a tradition. (It's not even the Dropkick Murphy's best song IMO.)

I'm pretty "meh" on it either way.

Anyone watching golden state/Denver? You'll never guess which song was playing in the arena to get the crowd pumped up coming out of a late timeout...
