Diaco is not perfect or some hall of famer, he's also one of the better coaches ND has had in a while... both can be true. He should never be mentioned along BVG in terms of ability or production, that's crazy talk.

It was a joke. Just busting balls a little, and I’m not an italics kind of guy. And what father in their right mind would welcome Bobby D into their home to recruit their son if the wife would be there? Lose your whole family in one recruiting trip!

Just curious, does he still have the hair of an angel?

He must have been reading IE recently. Here is his first tweet in a long, long time - just for you...

My God, it's like Superman and Vidal Sassoon decided to have a child. My wife is now banned from reading anything on IE until this thread is closed for good.

Honestly I think he's an OK defensive coordinator who's scheme is very simple and very dependent on having a collection of a certain profile of player to succeed. That 2012 defense's front 7 was stacked and had synergy with how Diaco ran his defense, and the results were incredible for that one year.

Simple, but he failed to recruit the two most important positions in the scheme, NT and MLB. He was gifted Teo, and Big Lou was the only one he did pull in. His other targets didn't really materialize, probably saw the writing on the wall in 2013 on where the defense was heading.

IIRC Nix committed prior to the Kelly hire, so Diaco wasn't really responsible for that one, either.

He was interviewed on the barstool pick ‘em podcast today. Man he can talk. He said that in 2012 just before the championship, a power 5 out west offered him a head coaching job but he didn’t want to abandon Manti on the defense with the championship coming.

Also said 2 power 5s offered him jobs after his second UConn season only to get fired the next year.

It looks like the only 2 power 5s out west with a coaching change were Colorado and Cal. Does anyone remember any smoke about that?

Felt like he got a slight bit choked up talking about not taking a job before the Natty and saying he’s not gonna leave Manti and the rest of the team

In hindsight he should have left. UCONN is always a terrible job and it didn’t matter who our coaches were that day. Bama would have killed us regardless.

Yeah, and Bob's heart didn't seem to be in it after 2012. I guess he decided he would be elsewhere soon enough and wasn't invested in laying the groundwork for future ND teams.

If Freeman's plan is to leave ASAP, it sure doesn't look that way from the work he's putting in.

Brother - money talks.. you know the rest.

To this day the main reason I do not like Saban is he flat out lied to MILLIONS of people during an interview stating, "I'm not going to be the alabama coach".

As many on here didn't like him when he was at Mich St... I thought (then) he was a good coach.
