the Big 12 won't expand, if anything it will break up imo.

You could wind up seeing Texas in the B1G or Texas + Oklahoma in a Pac-14

Exactly.

UT was even entertaining the PAC at one point a few years back when NEB left.

Only a matter of time before UT and OU leave

It was UofH and BYU, actually.

Texas would have never let Houston in. Especially since they already carry enough little brother Texas teams as is and more importantly because they want Houston's coach.

If Houston gets into a P5, makes it harder to steal the coach.

Yeah, I think they are done within the next 10 years. They just don't have the selling points of any of the other four conferences.

The ACC has the eastern seaboard media markets, top notch basketball, and better football draws as of late. The Big Ten has the legacy and the ratings and the $$. The SEC has the $$ because of football. And the PAC12 has to exist for the west coast.

ND and Texas to the B1G would be my dream with like Schiano at Texas and Herman at ND.

Just the match-ups that you'd get every year.

I'm a helmet team groupie. I like the sport much better when the Nebraska's, Penn State's, Texas', Michigan's, Notre Dame's, Ohio State's, are doing good. Could careless if LSU or Clemson sucks or whoever the johnny come latelys are.

Know it won't happen, but I'd love it if it did.

I'm not saying they were going to be let in...but that's who had the best argument and who was making the biggest push (especially through the media down here)

And Texas no longer has the clout it once did since A&M made the move to the SEC. That changed everything down here.

And I don't think UT gets Herman. Unless Herman is ONLY concerned about money (which that doesn't appear to be the case), USC may grab him given the family ties to that area.

Especially after the way UT's boosters treated Strong. Don't think that doesn't have an effect on the next coach.

Herman's already the head coach of Texas. Herman's not leaving Texas when he can have the #1 job in the country... at the state's flagship university. His professional roots are there. He knows every JV coach and guidance counselor in the state.

We'll see...The wife can have a big influence on decisions, as we all know.

And coaching at Texas is like working for Jerry Jones. Except there are a lot more Jerry's in your ear and pulling strings.

One of the most arrogant fanbases and universities there is.

Yeah it was back in 2011, apparently we were within minutes of having a then PAC-14 with Texas Tech, UT, OU, and Okie State.

Until the Baylor politicians blocked it. UT's the 800 lb Gorilla but Baylor is the king of the backroom. Ann Richards and her posse were the ones who rolled their eyes at UT when they thought they were running the show at the SWC's funeral.

Ann may be gone but she laid the groundwork for Baylor to be tied to the hip of UT until they are happy to go a different route. Much like Pickens has done with OSU and OU..

And you don't think speed dial SC alum are meddlesome and arrogant? The difference between his situation and Strong's is EVERYONE wants Herman as opposed to the many who didn't want Strong. Now that Strong dropped the ball, it makes them want Herman even more. He'll get a 6 year, $50M base deal.

Also... He'd be moving to Austin and getting the hell out of Houston. It's not like UT's in Lubbock or Abilene.

The only thing he'd be losing is Tilman Fertitta. He'll just have to find 3 new sugar daddies in Austin to take his place. Should take about 30 minutes.

Not 1% comparable to UT alum. Not even close. And they don't have the money that UT has either.

And you're right about the sugar daddies, no shortage of them at UT.

My angle is mainly about his wife and her family

Curious...how much time have you spent in Houston or Austin? Because Houston is a much better place to live than Austin. Austin has some draw for young people, but after than, it's just a hippie city overflowed with homeless and horrible traffic. It's like New Orleans, great place to visit, shitty place to live and work.

Hmm. Everything I hear is that Tech and UT are tied up, not UT and Baylor. Which makes way more sense anyways since they are 2 state schools.

And neither Baylor nor TCU are getting admitted into the PAC-12 since they have religious affiliations.

That's the opposite I've heard from like 50+ people who have lived in those places. But they're all young people sooo...

Also, USC is NOT coming open this year if things keep heading their current direction. They look damn good ever since moving on from Max Browne. Sam Darnold has been a revelation and the defense is playing harder.

Being a "cool" city doesn't mean it's a great place to live.

Taxes are absurd, the infrastructure is a wreck because of overpopulation, it's full of homeless....Real estate is god damn mindboggling

Great live music and food. Great outdoors activities.....but I'd never live in Austin.

Keep in mind, I have family in both cities and have lived in Houston for most my life.

One of my best friends has lived in Sugar Land or River Oaks for 30 years. My cousin's backyard butts up to Shadyside. I've spent a lot of time there. I worked summers at Rice 4 different years. I lived in Austin for most of a summer/fall when I was younger. I tried committing to Texas out of high school but Bob Weltlich said I had to come back for an official first and in the meantime, I chose Miami. I've lived in Chicago, Orange Co and Scottsdale. I'm picky. I wouldn't live anywhere in Texas unless it was on Lake Travis and I worked from home. I can honestly say I have never met anyone that liked Houston over [one of] Austin, Dallas or San Antonio. My friend and cousin are there because one's in the athletic business and the other is in oil. They will both be heading my way when they hang up their gigs.

Lastly, you are giving far too much credit to SC alum. Charlie got 4 years in Austin. I doubt Helton ends up with half that.

That's what the Tech boys thought too. Baylor will either be in what is now the Big 12 or when Texas moves and it goes to 4 Super Conferences, they join the SEC.

I've lived in the Woodlands the last 15 yrs. But from the Houston area.

Who the hell wouldn't want to live on Lake Travis and work from home? Dude, that's not a normal person's day or lifestyle. Just like living in River Oaks. I mean, that is a super premier area. You are comparing that lifestyle to that of everyday people.

And you've spent time here and have friends here....I live and work here. I make the commute. I own the properties. I've never met Houstonians who prefer Austin, and especially Dallas.

Most my friends enjoy visiting San Antonio and Austin, none would live there....for the reasons I'd mention.

Cool place to go to college. Cool place to visit. But the jobs and housing are here in Houston as most of us don't' live on a River Oaks/Work from home on Lake Travis budget.

Well if it's based on money, you can get a 2500 sq ft house walking distance from great entertainment districts in Scottsdale, AZ for just $350k-$400k. Houston summers are for the criminally insane. 97 and 99.9999743% humidity with no cool front in the forecast until Thanksgiving makes 110 and 15% humidity here in the Valley a walk in the park. Different strokes.

I think they will be eventually consumed by the other big conferences. Obviously Texas and OU will be fine. Outside of that I'm not sure since this is so football driven. I think KU will be fine and wind up in the Big 10 (been rumored before) b/c of hoops, and that would make a crazy good hoops league. The worrisome thing is how many of the "little brothers" get hooked to the big ones meaning will Texas have to bring some of Tech/Baylor/TCU. Or OU/Okie St. and KU w/ KSU.

It will be interesting, but I think some of the little bros who don't have good football could get left in the cold. Just hope it's not KU. Hoping the hoops brand is big enough to get them in the BIG 10 or ACC even. The rumors in all the craziness have been positive for KU but I don't want any of the teams to get hosed. Really wish it wasn't such a cluster to begin w/ and they had kept all the schools that made sense....A&M/Colorado/MU/Nebraska plus two more to get to 16 would be a great midwestern power conference.

Not sure if Kansas is, but in order for the B1G to take a school, they have to be a research insitution. They've been staunch about that.

Its just as hot in Austin, bro.

I love Scottsdale, BTW. I do quite a bit of Biz out there. Got a running tab out at Talking Stick. LOL.

I'd retire in Scottsdale in a min.

We watch ND games with the NDClub of PHX 2 miles west down Indian Bend Rd at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort. If you're out during the season, that's where to go.
