Just to be clear I'm not saying we should never blitz. But I think that if we have to blitz consistently we're in trouble and Winston will pick us apart.

Huge worry here. I think ND can definitely get pressure on JW blitzing. I'm worried that nobody in the front 4 can get to him. At least consistently for sure.

So Vegas has FSU as -400 or -425 depending where you look. The spread is anywhere between 12 and 13.5. If we use that as an objective measure of our odds, it breaks down as follows:

If you assume Winston is out and the spread goes to 3.5 (which generously equates to -160 on the moneyline), that means the odds change as follows:

My Cantor Gaming phone app has the line at FSU -8. So this is consistent with your numbers if they are hedging in the middle at 50/50 if Winston plays.
It sucks that the only line I can get is single digits - I don't see value on ND at that line; whereas I do at +13.5

My opinion is that he will play. I also feel that sociopaths are immune to Karma (*cough - Johnny Football - cough*); and somehow Winston will never be held accountable and will win this and many more games. But I really hope he plays and gets humiliated by our defense. I want to see JW's face in the ground mixing dirt and grass in his dazed eyes as Sheldon Day's locks dangling in front of him.

JW is averaging 8.92 YPA. For comparison, the top 3 QB leaders in passing yards average 7.64, 8.51, and 8.67. Digging a little deeper, JW ranks 14th in the FBS in YPA, all but two of those QB's have been sacked at least 8 times. He also has 5 INTs which make sense given his YPA.

What's this all mean? Nothing really except that it is possible to get to him without blitzing HOWEVER blitzing is important in that in can disguise coverages, where the rushers are coming from, etc. The idea is to get him off his game mentally so that he begins to overthink and do too much which lead to incompletions and turnovers.

JW is not Marquise Williams. He more closely resembles Kevin Hogan; just with a better arm. Blitzing CAN be more effective against FSU then we saw against UNC. This is the type of offense BVG can build a good game plan around.

Yeah, I buy all that.

I just have serious doubts about ND's DL being able to get to Winston. There isn't a real threat among them, as pass rushers. And despite what people sau about fsu's line play against clemson, that O-line is a damn good one.

Will any of that matter Saturday night though? No clue.

The good news, I think, is that Trumbetti and Okwara are both pretty good in space for DEs. If Day and Jones can hold the middle, ND may not need to worry too hard about the running game and can pressure from different spots while still dropping 7 into coverage.

Good point.

I've tried not to comment on the rape / sexual assault issue because I'm not well enough informed to speak to the facts. That said, is it at all possible he didn't do it? We've seen first hand with the Seeberg and Sullivan cases that when the media "knows" something to be true, the facts tend to get lost in the rush to get clicks.

Add the Duke Lacrosse boys to that list.

@DanWetzel: Defending Jameis Winston has descended into attacking the woman. It's wrong in every way: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ugly-t...iscourage-future-victims-034943507-ncaaf.html

Phenomenal article. I don't see how, after reasoning through the timeline of the victim's actions, you can believe she intentionally made this up. And the fact that anyone anywhere would drag this woman through the mud without ABSOLUTELY INFALLIBLE evidence that she made this up is absolutely disgusting.

Let us not forget Kolin Hill whose sole purpose is to speed rush after the QB.

Ahh... FSU fans pissed that ESPN reports on the rape accusations, theft and other illegal behavior.

I see how that is unfair...

See guys? ESPN doesn't hate Notre Dame. ESPN hates everyone!

EDIT: My favorite part of that article is that they're blaming SEC bias, ignoring the fact that 1) the most profitable game (Saturday night, 8:00) features a grand total of zero SEC teams, 2) negative press about FSU will drive viewership to the FSU game and away from SEC games, 3) SEC Network is a niche market that, from a business perspective, is small potatoes compared to network primetime and E1 ("regular" ESPN) games.

You are correct. One of the legal nerds on here should explain how they got away with not doing this immediately to begin with. The shear amount of shady activity coming from the administrators of FSU and the Tallahassee Police Department is appalling.

What you call appalling, they call Standard Operating Procedure. Ebola won't go to Tallahassee because it doesn't want to contract Seminole (that might actually make a good Game Day Sign).

Not saying it's going to happen, but the FSU admin did swoop in at the last minute to suspend him for the Clemson game.

Listened to Butch Davis on local sports talk at lunch. He likes the Irish D against the FSU O-line. Thinks that's their biggest weakness.

Also said the key is going to be Golson. If he doesn't turn the ball over he likes our chances, but also said that if FSU can keep him contained in the pocket or keep his runs to short gains FSU, it may make it too hard to win.

It's actually refreshing to see other universities hating on ESPN for slobbing the knob of the SEC.
Do you know how ridiculous you sound? Look, I'm not going to pick a fight if you want to cry "SEC BIAS!" when an analyst says something like "we might have three SEC teams in the playoff," but think about the logic you (and the FSU fans) are using here.

1. ESPN is a member of the media.
2. The media is creating swirl for a primetime matchup between an ACC team and an independent team.

THEREFORE: ESPN is biased towards the SEC.

Yes, yes and yes...I agree. Zero turnovers by the Irish, we'll be just fine on Saturday night.

Winston signature count up to 2000 items.

From the ESPN article:

Spence said that as of noon Thursday, no officials from Florida State had called to inquire how Spence's company authenticated as many signatures as it did.

LOL

"But besides the number, the giveaway of the JSA authenticated items that you can see on eBay, that suggests it was a sit-down signing, as the consistency of autograph, the cleanliness of the autograph and the fact that the autograph is signed in the perfect place over and over.

"Jameis might have signed a lot of autographs, but when he is doing so in public, he's not 100 percent focused," Powers continued. "Someone might be chatting with him, he might be signing with different pens on different surfaces like on someone's hand or shoulder. What's out there being sold is just too good."
