What dorm does he live in? The filth that grows in Dillon Hall had me sick from the second I arrived on campus until everything froze in November.

I lived in Zahm and experienced the same. I think it's those old buildings and the dust and mold that accumulates over the years.

So an undefeated #5 ranked ND team has about the same chance of beating FSU as an unranked Louisville team, an unranked Miami team, and an unranked Florida team....interesting....

I think Louisville is getting a huge bump because the game will be on a Thursday at Louisville. Thursday away games are not easy to win.

That is pretty crazy though... looked at as the same basic level as Miami and Florida??

If i were BK I'd put that up in the locker room...

Seriously. I'm not normally one to get bent out of shape about a lack of respect, but that's kind of an insult considering how we've played this season.

Maybe they're anticipating Winston's suspension immediately after the game this Saturday?

Couple good quotes in this story about Golson and fumbles. Love Golson guaranteeing a turnover-free game:

Florida State won't try to trick Golson much. The Seminoles are so athletic that their coaches wisely allow them to use their superior physical gifts rather than bog them down with a complicated scheme. ā€œThis will probably be the least complex defense he’ll see," Kelly said. "What you see is what you get. … They can afford to just say, ā€˜This is what I’ve got. Come beat me.’ They’re big. They’re physical. They’re fast on the edge. They can play man-to-man coverage. It allows them to not be put in compromising situations as much with formations and tempo and things like that. They can get tired, but you can’t compromise them as much.ā€

Since the Seminoles can do all this, it's a given they will hit Golson regularly. Can he hold on to the ball? ā€œThere’s a point where you get just kind of fed up," Golson said. "I think that’s where I am. I’m definitely not going to turn the ball over.ā€

If Golson can accomplish that, he'll move one step closer to becoming the quarterback Kelly believes he can be. He might also help the Irish pull an upset. "His best football is ahead of him, which is nice," Kelly said. "It’s always nice to be a football coach at a school where your quarterback is your best player and his best football is ahead of him.ā€

I was looking for some stats and FSU only has 12 QB hurries in six games. For example, ND has 36. Georgia has ”69! and the rest of the teams are usually in the 25-30-40 range.

Some more picks in:

Stewart Mandel (Fox Sports) FSU 30-20
Bruce Feldman (Fox Sports) FSU 31-10
Ralph Russo (AP) FSU 38-21

Also every ESPN ACC dweeb picked FSU. The only scores shown were Matt Fortuna picking 44-30 and Jared Shanker (?) picking 38-35

I think Trevor Matich on ESPN is the only person I've seen who has picked ND.

Trevor Matich said we have the most complex blitz package of any team in the country yesterday. Pretty sweet.

Yeah. And didn't he say that Winston doesn't even call out protections? For someone that is getting a lot of praise to be a 1st round pick, he better learn how to do that

Griese gave me more confidence for this game. And I was cautiously confident about the game before I heard Griese talk

Must be Alabama PTSD but I'm still very skeptical that we can beat an elite team.

Hoping like hell this team proves me wrong.

The world does not rise and set on the SEC mentality.

No one is saying that it does. That being said, you should read Lou Somogyi's article in the latest BGI entitled, "The South Must Fall Again for the Irish to Rise". I assure you that you don't hate the SEC more than me but bottom line is they have been & continue to be the best conference in NCAA. The SEC/South (like FSU) is the latest in a line of challenges that ND has to/will overcome.

"From 1966-80, the bogeyman on ND's schedule was USCum. The only time the Irish would receive validation as legitimate contenders was if they vanquished mighty Troy. ND was 3-10-2 vs SCum - and all three W's resulted in national title campaigns.

Under Lou Holtz, Miami was the bogeyman. In Holtz's first two & a half years, the Irish posted numerous quality wins at scUM, vs Rose Bowl champ MSU, SCum and Alabama...but validation had to come from one foe. Once ND defeated "The U.," which had outscored the Irish 133-20 the four previous meetings, it was deemed as "back" and "the old ND."

That's where Kelly & ND are today. The South/SEC is the bogeyman. The 42-14 slaughter to Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game after the 2012 campaign & the 41-14 debacle vs LSU in the 2007 Sugar Bowl still resonate as "you have a nice team but you're not ready to play in the Southern big leagues."

--Somogyi

That's just a fact bro. And guess what? You damn sure better expect that Bama game will be brought up every time ND is on the national radar until they vanquish similar team from the SEC/South. Embrace it and hope ND accomplishes this sooner than later. BTW, Somogyi is more optimistic than me as he has predicted a 27-24 FSU win.

ND is not decimated anywhere.

Really? That's your opinion. The safety position is down to Redfield, Shumate & true freshman Drue Tranquill. The defensive backfield lost Russell & Collinsworth who Kerry Cooks said in the spring were "light years" ahead of everyone else in the secondary. Then backup safeties, Hardy & Baratti, are lost for the year. They did a helluva job vs the first five opponents. Last week was unimpressive but it could be an anomoly. We'll know for sure Saturday night.

Anyone think Nick Watkins gets pulled into action?

Redfield, Shumate, (Tranquil)
Luke, Riggs, Butler, Farley.

Surely someone else is gonna have to play right?

Notre Dame-Florida State: Irish can end FSU's shot at title repeat | FOX Sports

This article was posted a page or two back, but I'm bumping it cause it's great, and this quote is even greater.

While some defensive coordinators play it safe, taking minimal and calculated risks, Notre Dame DC Brian VanGorder holds nothing back. One of my favorite sayings I heard during my time playing for him in the NFL was, ā€œYou can live 80 years like a kitten, or you can live 50 like a lion.ā€

I could definitely see that.

I think we will see several different personnel packages. I think Tori Hunter Jr will see a significant increase in reps as well.

Which is why the D must overcome the personnel challenges when an offense goes uptempo like UNC did Saturday. That's why we didn't see the exotic looks. Hell, I was sitting in the endzone and watched them hike a handful of plays before ND could get their entire defense in position. FSU doesn't go as fast as UNC, but you can bet we'll see more uptempo now that UNC showed it as a success vs our D.

Listened to Butch Davis on local sports talk at lunch. He likes the Irish D against the FSU O-line. Thinks that's their biggest weakness.

Also said the key is going to be Golson. If he doesn't turn the ball over he likes our chances, but also said that if FSU can keep him contained in the pocket or keep his runs to short gains FSU, it may make it too hard to win.

I've seen this sentiment a lot about Golson, but I don't think it's enough for him to play "clean" or "mistake-free" or "turnover-free" or anything like that. I think he has to play "clean" AND make some great plays. A mixed bag of great play and terrible play (like we've seen) won't cut it. Likewise, we're not going to win if he's a game manager focused on not making mistakes.
