Again, I'm not sure you're right about the unincorporated part; everything I'm seeing is that their place of incorporation is Indiana (and I'd bet a big chunk of change - no pun intended - that the NCAA were served at their corporate headquarters in Indy).

But even if that were the case, "unincorporated" would still provide full diversity, no? If you aren't a citizen of any state, you can't be a citizen of Texas. And if that's the case, why run the risk that some yokel state court judge is going to do his alma mater a solid and let Sorsby play, which is exactly what happened?

It just seems like a misjudgment of some kind leaving it in state court (if I'm not wrong about the unincorporated part and that does, in fact, does not destroy diversity). To me, I see full diversity and the statutory threshold met for damages; I can't imagine why the NCAA wouldn't try to get it into federal court.
It's weird to me too yeah. I always thought the NCAA was a corporation, but apparently that is not the case and it is an unincorporated association made up of its member schools. What I just read didn't say they're "not a citizen of any state" but said they "are a citizen of every state in which their member schools are located." So that would include TX. Also, where someone is served with process does not determine where they are a citizen. I typically serve national corporations with process through their registered agent here in my state.

I view the NCAA as bumbling stooges in general, but I find it hard to believe they would drop the ball on removal to federal court if that were an option.

This is a win for college football. TT gets roasted for a couple more days, then we can move on.

It’ll be interesting to see if any team will draft a guy who knowingly placed bets on his team.

I know the falcons WR did it a couple of years ago when he was hurt but he obviously was already in the league and got suspended for it.

So is Tech no longer supporting him in his “mental health issues”?

Nahhhh...Next it will just be the typical, disingenuous "thoughts and prayers" on his way out the door, because he's no longer of use to them.

They'll be suing him before long to recover any NIL money they've already given him, arguing that he's a POS that lied to them and did notable damage to their school.

“Brendan and Texas Tech stand on very solid and legitimate legal ground, but he faces a June 22nd deadline to be eligible to enter the NFL's supplemental draft, and there is no practical way to resolve all the various pending legal disputes and ensure his eligibility prior to this date.”

Basically the new Big 12 suit spooked them.

They are apparently letting him keep whatever he's been paid to this point.

What’s your favorite Cody Campbell quote?

“One important fact has been broadly misunderstood: It was NOT Texas Tech that filed the at-issue lawsuit against the NCAA, seeking his reinstatement.”

“The bottom line is that Texas Tech did absolutely nothing but act with complete integrity through this entire process. We broke no rules, no laws, and crossed no ethical lines.”

“that does not change the fact that I am deeply concerned about the state of college sports and want to see it reformed. Clearly, the situation is not acceptable nor sustainable at present, but "it is what it is", and we have had to live and to compete in it.”

“He will be stripped of the opportunity to continue to develop as a better and stronger man, stripped of his last opportunity to compete at the highest level of college sports, and I pray that he can stay on his path to recovery.”

I don't see this particular issue discussed enough: Sorsby may still NOT have any future in the NFL.

Aside from the red flags of the gambling on your own team issue at all, it's the logistics of the Supplemental Draft that will complicate things.

The Supplemental Draft is held only when necessary and if a team drafts a player, they forfeit a pick the following year! Think about how many players you've ever heard about that were actually taken in this Supplemental Draft - very few to none?

By definition, these players have red flags to begin with. Would a team take the risk to forfeit a pick the next year for someone with issues? Express train for a GM to get fired.

He may never have any football future in the NFL. Maybe CFL or UFL? He's a middling quarterback anyway so he may be done forever.

If he’s not drafted, he’ll be signed. I would think someone for sure jumps on the chance at the right draft price.

I wonder how many teams never had a player who was gambling under the table.
