CFP committee should leave them out even when they are 12-0. Their OOC schedule is Abilene Christian, Oregon State and Samer Houston State. Indiana even thinks that's a weak out of conference schedule.
Would love to see it. Completely leaving them off of the top 25 would be great TV. It would also dig at the scab of Michigan being allowed to play and I am here for that argument.

They live in a bubble. They're enabled and supported by state government (Campbell is a big FB booster AND the chair of the BoR, appointed by Abbott), and that's all the backing they think they need. They will absolutely not back down because they believe they don't have to.

Maybe the B12 censures them in some way, but even that would prob get tied up in court well past the season end. I just don't see a team dropping them from any currently scheduled games. Tech might regret it in the long run, tho.

I’m not watching a second of this but absolutely insane by them and their PR people to think that putting out a 20 minute video explaining yourselves is the solution here

I'm just more laughing with myself that the first thing I noticed (and criticized in my head) was the fact that despite ALL the money they have, they couldn't set this "roundtable discussion" up with lav mics (or at least wireless mics) for these big dawg administrators and coach. Guess they gotta keep the budget on point for NIL only...

Hey TT! Want me to believe this isn't just about winning FB games? Show me your plan to help Sorsby after he graduates. Afterall, addictions don't go away with a few counseling sessions. Right?!

These idiots think google doesn't exist. Dakota Allen was expelled from Tech and played at a JUCO for a year before being offered the opportunity to return to Lubbock. I'd call a year in the wilderness a consequence, no? So what consequence does Sorsby face?

I've never seen a more shameless and disingenuous PR campaign than this

Im seeing Texas Tech fans entering a new phase of grieving on social media. Lamenting that John Mateer bet on games and was allowed to play, therefore Sorsby should too. And any pushback on this means you are just mad TT has money now and is trying to crash the party.

I have zero doubt plenty of kids are placing bets. I have no idea what John Mateer did or did not do. But this doesnt advance their argument anyway. Sorsby got caught. Thousands of bets. Including on his own team.

If you ask a Texas Tech fan or administrator what the punishment is for that, they suddenly turn into some oriental philosopher in a mountain temple. If I ever get this desperate, someone please just put me down. What a sad way to live one's life.

What's doubly crazy is that the Big 12 could just move their HQ out of the conference with a 75% vote. They can do anything with a 75% vote. They could even disband the whole thing with a 75% vote. It's a voluntary association of schools. And there is precedent for kicking someone out of a conference, it happened with Temple in the early 00s because the Big East thought they were hurting the competitiveness of the conference on the field and saw the writing on the wall of what could (and eventually did) happen to the conference.

But move the HQ to Kansas City + change the venue for cases from Dallas to literally anywhere not in Texas....... and there is nothing Ken Paxton or Cody Fuckface can do. Any suit would involve multiple states and get escalated to federal court. So the idea that TT has any leverage or that these threats are worth anything is ludicrous.
If you think the Big12 could exist without the Big12 schools.

Their defense of Sorsby and compromising the integrity of the game is disgusting. The president clearly had uncomfortable body language at the beginning of the video. Utterly incredulous on how they are not considering the optics on this and the potential short and long term effects. Politics has entered college football pervasively here in this program.

Did Sorsby tear into the moral fabric of a sport wear schools try to pay opposing student-athletes to transfer?

From an article on si.com. We may hear something sooner rather than later.

The league’s athletic directors met at a national conference Tuesday, which one participant described as “intense but professional.” The league’s executive board, comprising the presidents of Kansas, Kansas State and BYU, is scheduled to have what could be a momentous call with commissioner Brett Yormark this week. A full board meeting could come next week.

This is the weirdest part of the whole thing to me. All of them saying that "We (greater CFP world) are scared and don't want TT to have a seat at the table."

It's like they live in this alternate reality where they think they are the first ones to start playing the NIL game. They are one of many. They've never won anything of significance in this sport. Nobody is scared of them, particularly not the blue bloods of the CFB world. They made one CFP. Hang the banner.

It's pathetic coping behavior. If it was any other program they'd be kicking and screaming just like we all are. You placed a bad bet (pun absolutely intended) on Sorsby. Own it and move on.

Anyone outside of TTU (fans & judiciary) sees what this means to the integrity of the sport and sports in general. I can't imagine the injunction not getting overturned.

Has it been mentioned where he got the money to place all those bets?

The whole thing is just disgusting... The temporary injunction that is now in place would last through the 2026 football season, but the NCAA is seeking an expedited appeal that would end the injunction sooner. Can't believe I'm actually rooting for the NCAA in anything.

Well if you spent anytime in the Irish Envy Degenerates Gambling Thread sponsored by Sorsby you’d know on DK you bet $5 and get bonus $ when WC goals are scored. Duh.

Smart move by the B12.

Does anyone know/has anyone read why the NCAA didn't remove the Sorsby lawsuit to federal court? They're an organization based in Indy, and IIRC the only named Defendant. Am I missing something?

Really hope they can get this worked out where he is banned.

I'm not much for "CFB is dying" but casting doubt on the authenticity of the on-field product is how you get there

I posted about this awhile back (in this same thread I think). Since then, I've thought about it some more. Diversity jurisdiction that allows a defendant to remove a case to federal court requires an amount in controversy of over $75k. Sorsby's lawsuit sought injunctive relief only, so I'm not sure how the NCAA could certify that the amount in controversy exceeded $75k.

EDIT: I just read that the NCAA is an unincorporated association, so it is considered a "citizen" of every state where its members are located. Because the NCAA has member schools in TX, there is no diversity jurisdiction and the case can't be removed to federal court.

NCAA is legally incorporated in Indiana.

If it was the 75K thing, that's a huge miss from the NCAA's attorneys. I have to imagine the Complaint (which I can't get a copy of) has multiple mentions of how much money Sorsby is set to lose if not allowed to play. I can't imagine that's the reason.

It was not a case seeking damages, so how much Sorsby was set to lose is probably irrelevant. In any event, that's probably not the reason it wasn't removed to federal court because that's just the second element of diversity jurisdiction. Before you even get there, you have to show that there's no in-state defendant (TX citizen in this case). According to what I've just read, the NCAA is not incorporated at all.

Again, I'm not sure you're right about the unincorporated part; everything I'm seeing is that their place of incorporation is Indiana (and I'd bet a big chunk of change - no pun intended - that the NCAA were served at their corporate headquarters in Indy).

But even if that were the case, "unincorporated" would still provide full diversity, no? If you aren't a citizen of any state, you can't be a citizen of Texas. And if that's the case, why run the risk that some yokel state court judge is going to do his alma mater a solid and let Sorsby play, which is exactly what happened?

It just seems like a misjudgment of some kind leaving it in state court (if I'm not wrong about the unincorporated part and that does, in fact, does not destroy diversity). To me, I see full diversity and the statutory threshold met for damages; I can't imagine why the NCAA wouldn't try to get it into federal court.
