The Navy game will be my first ND game being over 21 and my friends and I were wondering where are some of the popular bars to go on Friday or Saturday night? We are looking for a fun great ND atmosphere. So I need some help here. Thanks!

If you're older than 26, the Linebacker is very popular on both nights. It'll get crowded though, but it's usually a fun time. Brothers also is a pretty cool place.

If you're 26 or under, Finnys or CJs is the place to be. They're both downtown and will be full of undergrads and recent grads. $15 Red Bull Vodka pitchers and $15 Long Island pitchers will be the drink of choice.

Closest bars to campus are Brothers, Mulligans, The Linebacker, and O'Rourkes. Brothers definitely attracts the younger crowd more, so that would be a good place to check out.

CJ's Pub is another good one but that's closer to downtown

CJs has tremendous burgers, too. Eat one.
You can't really go wrong with Corby's. And the Backer is something of an end-of-the-night institution, if you can squeeze in the door there.

Worth noting is that all of the bars will have $5 cover except Brothers and O'Rourke's (I believe)

Is Main St. Pub still open? The one close to the Linebacker?

Yeah it is. It's a fun place, but it won't be the MOST energetic before or after a game. The other places will be better, but Main St. would be a good backup plan.

Bleachers for some karaoke and a good old fashion punch up with a couple rummy locals!!!! Haha!

I like Mulligans and the Linebacker too. Beer is cheap pretty much anywhere you go.

I always liked going there to start the night because it wasn't packed and they had a lot of TVs. But as others have said, Finnies or CJs is the place to end up.

Maybe I am a bit old-school but I like Fiddler's located downtown.

Ditto. It's a great Irish pub. Also, for those into whiskeys, check out The Exchange downtown. It's a new whiskey bar that has something like over 100 bourbons/scotches.

What is this Southbend of which you speak? Somewhere "below" Northbend? Somewhere near Elbowbend or Kneebend? East of Westbend? A suburb of Tombstonebend? Somewhere near Breakingbadbend?

Pardon the intrusion. All of the places I habituated in South Bend while a student at ND are long gone, though the "Corby" name lives on.

O rourkes is a pretty layed back place. Sometimes gets a little rowdy. Corbys is probably the place to be. During the weis days, there was always a few players there, especially after the game. Linebacker is almost a tourist trap. I was there for the USC night game a few years back and it got pretty out of control.

Bleachers is a dive, but literally has the cheapest craft beer you will find anywhere. Liquor stores or the breweries themselves cannot beat there prices. Where else can you get pitchers of beers by breweries like 3 Floyds for $6.50.

Fiddler's Hearth is an all around wonderful place. If you are still in town Sunday I would recommend going there for Sunday brunch.

I like Brothers myself. Not smoky, younger crowd, good drink specials, lots of TVs, if you're single there are some hotties, dance floor if you're into that, close to campus, etc etc.

I went to Corbys for the MSU game (at MSU) and I could not believe how dead it was. Very disappointing. Obviously sounds like its way better for home games...

either oroukes will be crowded or brothers will be crowded, it switches for some strange reason. Expect to be smashed together and have it take a half hour to get across the place. Also expect to have to throw money at the bartender in order to get their attention. Basically every bar in the area will be full of ND stuff. Now if you are looking for a classy establishment, you need to go to Torches.

Oh and bleachers sucks. Im surprised it hasnt been featured on Whale wars yet.

This is the one big negative about the bars in my opinion. I felt like I was in the middle of a reenactment of the Oakland Hills fire at most places.

Aye...I spied a couple big uns when I was there. Actually, there were some rather large ladies at CJ's the one time I went there too.

It may be necessary to explain that Finny's is not actually named that. The true name is Blarney Stone (but everyone calls it Finny's, or sometimes you still hear Finnegan's).

Finny's and the Linebacker are the quintessential football weekend South Bend bars, imo. I would make those two a priority, but keep the others in mind as backup plans in case of insane overcrowding.
