I don't much care for him, but he's not the worst on TV. I don't understand a really strong reaction with him. Just sort of seems like a bit of a dunce.

You NEED a commentator that dislikes ND. And Flutie is good at that, and I don't pay much attention to him because of it. We have to remember that a large % of football fans tune in because they hate ND and want to watch them lose. If it was ND football with Brady Quinn talking, I think the circle jerk would actually hurt ratings.

I understand the reasoning behind not having an Irish homer in the booth, but I think you're greatly exaggerating the benefit of having a hater commenting instead. A strong majority of those tuning in are Irish fans. If a significant number of them are muting the game and listening to Criqui instead, that's not good for NBC's advertising revenues. A neutral and knowledgeable commentator like Mayock would be ideal.

I disagree. No one is turning the game on/off because the announcer likes/dislikes ND. They are watching the game, regardless of who's calling it, hoping that they win/lose.

What they NEED is an announcer that will call the good things "good" and the bad things "bad." Flutie can't find it in himself to strike that balance with ND. That's why he has plenty to say when the opposition is playing well, but gets very quiet when ND is making plays.

NBC runs commercials during the game?? I had no idea, as the game is fading to a timeout I'm usually moving as fast as I can to ABC, CBS, or ESPN channels looking for action...lol

Haha NDs ratings aren't going to hurt because of a semi pro sentiment in the booth. Winning and losing, weekly opponent, that's what changes he ratings.

Absolutely heartbreaking for Doug Flutie. Apparently both his Father and Mother passed away today. His father had a heart attack and died at the hospital and his mother had a sudden heart attack and passed away an hour later. RIP to Mr. and Mrs. Flutie.

Agree. But while Flutie was finally somewhat decent, Hicks had his worst game of the year. Could not believe how bad he was trying to "convince the committee" after the game that we do not belong in the playoff picture.

Agree with this. Hicks was horrible and just doesn't have the voice for football.

I thought FOX was miles ahead of NBC with the ND/Stanford game. Everything from the presentation to the announcers was a big step up. Gus Johnson would make our Wake Forest game seem entertaining.
