Ah, yes, welcome to the New World Order of stupid. Nothing sells like carnival barking. Made in America so it's tariff free and probably the one thing that isn't getting more expensive.

With the amount of time I have available, I'm probably more likely to just watch the actual games rather than listen to people talk about the games in the morning. Even if the group of people includes anyone I would consider worth listening to.

I can really do without the Portnoys and McAfees, but I'm in the minority when all is said and done.
My Saturday routine has turned into Premiere League in the morning and college football the rest of the day. I don’t watch the pregame shenanigans much.

Sounds about right.

I tend to consume American football punditry via Podcasts. The pregame shows really don't do it for me anymore. I am probably not alone, so I get why they're resorting to having guys like McAfee and Portnoy around. I'm not in that target demographic, however.

Like most things related to cfb, what got them in trouble was greed. Used to be, it was a moderately priced, tight 2 hour morning show that had good information about the upcoming day's slate. Now it's a 3 hour plus bloated monstrosity that has to appeal to the broadest possible audience because "something has to pay for all these conference TV deals" so you get hours of boring human interest pieces and pro-wrestling crap.

Minus the soccer, I'm with you. There's nothing any of those guys will say that effects the game, so I'll work in the yard or do something that will make the wife happy and quiet during the game.

Right.

I could listen to Saban talk ball for hours. My uncle would vote for Pat McAfee if he ran for US Senate in PA. They have to reach us both plus everyone else in between.

Not to mention you have multiple outlets doing the same bit. Scarcity is good. Oversaturation is not.

Im biased as I have consumed Barstool content for over a decade. I really enjoyed Pats show when he first started with them and love that he basically brought his entire friend group with him. There is something to be said about watching a group of friends talk sports that is very relatable. Much more so than pencil necked journalists and barely literate former athletes that bloviate over the fact that "you never strapped the helmet up, you shouldn't have an opinion. "

Ross on his podcast today:

“this (Portnoy on Big Noon) was announced in mid July and by late July I think many people in the league certainly some in Columbus and some in Chicago (B1G offices) were expressing their concern”

He then says certainly the concerns impacted the way we are gonna see Fox handle seeing Portnoy. Later again refers to it as easing conference membership concerns.

Uh, almost sounds familiar….

This screams Fox, maybe with influence of DraftKings who both Barstool and Fox have deals with, did something. B1G members didn’t explicitly know so they walked it back as much as they needed to.

I largely agree, but we live in a world where Stephen A. Smith's base salary is $20 million. Stupidity is more in demand than ever and more expensive than ever. One way or another, that cost gets passed onto us (or at least those of us who pay for TV packages instead of finding more "creative" ways to watch games.)

Nick Saban:

“I think that the SEC was the SEC because of the culture in the South. There wasn’t professional football in the South for a long time, and everybody related to the colleges. Well, now that doesn’t matter,” Saban added. “I mean, kids grew up wanting to go to LSU, Alabama and Georgia. Got the money now. They don’t mind going to Ohio State. They don’t mind going to other places.

“So, that geographic advantage that the Southeast Conference may be changing a little bit now, with the different culture, with NIL and the money involved in decision-making. I think that’s created a bit of an edge for the Big Ten.”

Southern culture? If he means "fuck the rules" culture, sure, that helped, but it was simple demographics, Nick, not primarily culture. They had the local talent all along. First they had to integrate their universities and football teams, then they had to learn to win.

I don't think anybody ever "minded" going to Northern powers.

Does the Big Ten have the NIL advantage over the SEC? I'd be surprised. The Big Ten has plenty of mediocre to bad programs who likely spend relatively little. There was a brief moment in time when my Spartans had a couple sports crazy billionaire alums supporting the teams, but the NBA put an end to that. Now they're among the poors, too. It seems Nick thinks the modern Big Ten is eighteen Oregons.

B1G shouldn't be subjecting eastern time zone teams to that. Likewise, the west coast teams should get afternoon or evening kickoffs when traveling east.

I can see where they would want to keep this game for the west coast under prime time, but at the same time they're losing viewers on EST. They need a happy medium maybe, like a 6pm PST/9pm EST start time. That way they're done by midnight or before. My guess is that offset time would screw with the other games on the slate, which is probably the real reason it ends up at 11pm to begin with.
