Our pass rush looked good in the spring game, but if you just look at the QB numbers, it probably looks like we passed for yardage at will.



There were probably at least 4 would be sacks, and I'll take 4 sacks a game anytime.

Agreed. There was a ton of pressure most of the time as well when a sack didn't take place. The '14 DL will be successful as BVG mixes in his blitz packages as well. There will be a lot to account for against ND's defense now. I'm excited to see it.

Haha...the comments are exactly what I was thinking when reading that last line. Our pass rush was really not there last year, and the spring game isn't set up to benefit the defense so I think they are taking too much from that.

Notre Dame Football 2014 Off-Season Preview: Rice Owls - One Foot Down

Offense:

This year they are replacing their starting quarterback, a 1,200 yard running back, and 20 out of their 31 rushing touchdowns from a year ago.

Defense:

an entire secondary full of senior starters from a unit that was pretty strong against the pass last year causing 14 interceptions and a boat load of broken up passes.

In summation:

Rice seems poised for a step back from 2013. They have to replace 10 starters, including the ever important quarterback position, and I don't know if they have the talent to re-load. This is a program that almost never strings together back-to-back strong seasons in football.

I've never been to the opening game before (outside of my student years), but holy crap does it add to the anticipation of the start of the season. Normally I'd be "looking ahead" to Michigan, but I cannot wait for this game.
