Is it for sure he is transferring? I do believe that this was leaked before all of the options were weighed. I would like to see him take a step back from the ledge.
Well, Kiel is a'flight risk' (H/T Irish Houstonian) right now so maybe not out of the question. Coaching circles are tight so word could have spread around.
IDK
Yeah *******, I know what perennial means. Strictly speaking, obviously we have not been perennial contenders in the PAST. But unless you're saying we're going to take a significant step backwards next year, I think it's fair to call ND an elite team that will remain in the NC picture for the foreseeable future.
I'm curious, for people who like to use that term (perennial contender), who fits that definition other than Bama?

could be that Zaire started taking snaps and looks really really good and Kiel didnt like his chances of being able to take away the starting position from Golson or compete with Malik.....that is what I am going with for my own sanity.
Incidentally, Tommy Rees' sophomore stats compare very favorably to all three of the guys he listed.
221 yds/game
20 TD, 14 INT
133.4 Rating
65.5% completion
Its got to be that, but lets be honest a kid who is afraid of open competition probably doesnt have the mental backbone to lead a team infront of 80,000 people. Not saying thats Kiel but something does smell a little fishy
My turn with Stats!
I don't know about you guys, but I prefer wins over great stats(Figured I better put Kiel down since this is his thread).
Sophomore year Win/Loss
Golson : 10-1
Quinn:6-6
Rees:8-5
Clausen:7-6
Kiel:N/A

I am really struggling with the criticism of EG. The offense that he was in charge of last year was average. Outside of TE there were no outstanding players to help him. His running backs were just OK, the line improved each week, but overall they were also OK, the WR were young and talented, but none of them stood out. EG often made plays when they were absolutely necessary. He came back from some early season struggles to improve and become a leader. The second half of the NCG should be a confidence booster(I know, AL was playing a vanilla D at that point, but it will still give him confidence). AND HE WAS A FRESHMAN!! The kid wins. People down here in SC still talk about his battles with Clowney and how he stepped up his game every time they played against each other. I love EG being the QB.
As for GK, I wish him luck. This is his best choice. Hope he makes the right decision on his future college.
Our total offense last year was a mediocre 54th: Total Offense - NCAA.com and we we ranked 79th in scoring offense: Scoring Offense - NCAA.com
This stat wouldn't worry me at all if I was an opposing coach or defense.
I agree with this, though I think people still underestimate the effect that Theo Riddick had on our season. Sure, he was never the blazing athlete, but he bailed us out a few times with his hard-nosed running. I think the only concern that has legitimately been repeated with EG is injury. He proved that he can and will progress as he continues to learn the intricacies of the offense and gain new weaponry in the arsenal (see Neal and a slew of other newbies). Good luck GK. It would have been nice to see you duke it out and win the spot for best QB. Now, we'll never know what you could have done here.
This year is a big year for EG because it will be the 2nd time around most of these coaching staffs will get to game plan for him. How he adjusts back is paramount to his and the teams success.

I think EG is potentially a nightmare to defend. We saw glimpses of it as he began to run the spread option running game more frequently last year. The 4th quarter of the Pitt game is the best example. He took over that game with his arm and legs.
A lot of it depends on his durability when getting hit, and his ability to know when to stay in the pocket and when to leave it and improvise. He is bound to improve from all the game experience and another spring.
Coordinators having to defend the spread option, an I-running game, misdirection running plays, roll out passes, passes from the pocket and a QB that can turn a sack into a 50 yard touchdown is not easy to defend. It will be even harder if we can execute with more speed in the skill positions across the board.
Of course all bets are off if the O-line doesn't do its job....

Sophomore year Win/Loss
Golson : 10-1 Brian Kelly/Bob Diaco
Quinn:6-6 Tyrone "you can find me at Pebble Beach" Willingham
Rees:8-5 BK/BD - prior to Te'o exploding, Tuitt/Nix, etc.
Clausen:7-6 Charlie Weis...and his defenses
Kiel:N/A
Key word that used is potentially.
