I believe I asked on one of the I.E. forums awhile back if Navy was changing their offense given the coaching change. If I recall correctly someone either replied they’d be staying with the option, or I found a link stating as much.

On another note, I don’t feel like we will have much trouble with Navy at all. Run the ball to set up the pass, and vice versa. That’s something we’ve been lacking for quite sometime (passing game). And as long as the defense is assignment correct (we have veteran Lb’s), I can see this being over by halftime. We have another factor in our favor, the head coach isn’t Ken Niumatalolo. That dude had our number so many times. He flat out-coached us in so many disappointing performances.
We're going to see some Spread formations from them probably this year, depending on if they have the personnel to run it. They'll run some out of those formations, but they'll be passing more than they have in the past supposedly. I would expect that the bulk of their offense will still be the option though.

There's another preview on the On3 site, but it's paywalled.

Cool, and thanks. Option with more flare I guess. I know a couple CB’s who will probably force them into a more traditional scheme! 😂

They also got rid of the offensive coordinator who had been with Ken N forever and replaced him with the OC from Kennesaw St. The new HC was from Kennesaw St as well before he became Navy’s DC a few years ago.
The new offense is reputed to be more like what Air Force runs, a flex bone that uses the rb’s as slot receivers sometimes

First year HC and a starting QB who doesn’t show up for practice doesn’t sound like a good combo
Arline and Lavatai were the starters last year, but it sounds like they may not be fully 100% yet. That, or Gleaton was edging them out, and now he's got to deal with summer school. Either way it definitely helps us.

Wait, what? Why can't you go to practice while you are going to summer school?

I think Lavatai had a major knee injury late, possibly vs Army. Gleaton is more of a passer, Lavatai was a power back type, get 3 yards on the keeper guy. Arline is a shifty runner who can pas some, but he weighs around 160.
Think Arline might have gotten hurt playing lacrosse.

At the academies it’s not just “summer school” as you think.
He must not be in good academic standing and will not practice, play, eat, sleep, piss, shit, screw, etc….until his academics are in order.
Sir, yes sir!

The O/U has moved up to 51 on DK. I think it was 49 a few weeks ago. I still think it goes over.

Yup. I believe both Arline and Lavatai were expected to be healed at some point this Fall, but they may not be there yet or as mentioned Gleaton may have passed them up as they work to come back.

I just hammered the ND moneyline for this game. The odds seem way too soft… 13-1 for ND? Feel like it should be closer to 20-1.

Anyways, can’t wait for ND to blow it and end up sleeping in a van down by the river.

Having as much time as necessary to prepare for the Mids is a major factor. If we look bamboozoled by their offense with all this time to prepare it’s on Golden and co. So if you lose your bet Al should provide temporary housing until you get back on your feet again

Completely new offense so not sure what they exactly role out with

With that said, we should be in 1-1 man with single high safety and very aggressive in the box

Too many unknowns.

How is Navy responding to new HC who already knew the players & the culture before being elevated from DC?

Will new Navy staff add more wrinkles to triple-option…enough to make game close?

Will Navy defense sell out on every play like they did in 2H last year leading ND to exploit it and blow them out or leading Navy to stay competitive?

They’re going to throw it a good deal more I’m guessing based on the new OC hire

That’s why it’s called gambling.

You have to make an educated decision on what you think will happen.

Navy is having a rough time at QB this fall.
And Navy’s entire team counts on good QB play. And add in a new offense on top of injuries at the position & academic concerns…I think they will struggle game 1.

And ND scored 35 points in the first half last year with Pyne. And then Pyne was completely lost against the blitz the 2nd half.
Hartman won’t be lost against the blitz.

I will actually be very surprised if ND doesn’t win by 24+ unless Navy backdoor covers because ND subs & Navy plays hard until the final whistle, & always plays their starters the entire game.

Why would a good passer go play for Navy under Ken N.? Unless they have a true frosh I can't imagine they'll have a good passer. They'll probably run more short passing off play action but we should be ready for that.
