OSU will beat PSU. I cant see PSU coming within 10 pts of OSU or any other team with a pulse. Problem is, once that happens, OSU jumps up to top 4 which is a friggin joke considering who they play. PSU at #2? You have got to be kidding me

Sadly, this year in CFB doesnt really have many good teams and only one very good team. I mean, have you seen a year where the top teams were dropping to unranked major underdogs like they are this year?

What do you attribute to that? Disparity in recruiting?

Bama is a machine, and they probably won't lose a game this year.

I don't see any team that has a chance at beating them, with the exception of UGA (dat defense) and maybe Ohio State if the Buckeyes offense keeps rolling. And even then, I still think Bama would end up stomping those two.

As for ND, just win, baby.

The entirety of the national media is starting to latch on to the "if ND wins out against that second-half schedule..."

I don't think we're going to win out (ducks for cover). There is no breathing room. BUT if we do, we'll be in the playoff IMO. We would need a bit of help, but not a miracle.

Washington and Wazzu both losing clears the way to get in over a one-loss Pac12 champ. If ND wins out, even if one of those teams ends up at 12-1, ND's resume is far superior.

Ohio State is my bet to win the B1G at 12-1, and they would be in the playoff.

ACC champion Clemson would give 1-loss ND some issues with their resume if they can still end up at 12-1. ACC champion Miami would be wayyyyyy cooler.

I assume the eventual Big XII champ will have at least one loss, because it's the Big XII. Something dumb will happen to TCU at some point, and Oklahoma already has a loss. The problem is if Oklahoma and Ohio State win out, then Oklahoma's win is better than ND's best win, and their loss won't matter anymore.

Let's assume Bama wins the SEC over UGA... I think ND would be in over 12-1 UGA if UGA gets run out of the stadium. If UGA plays it to a one-score game, and loses on the last possession, then it's dicey.

1. Bama
2. Ohio State
3. ND/Clemson/Oklahoma/UGA
4. ND/Clemson/Oklahoma/UGA

An ND that wins out needs Clemson to lose another game and still win the ACC, or else they need Miami to beat Clemson in the ACC 'chip.

They then need Oklahoma to get beat again, or for UGA to get stomped in the SEC 'chip.

It's fun to speculate, even if there's a <10% chance that ND wins out.
The Big 10 East is going to pound itself into submission. I think OSU is going to lose one of Michigan, Michigan State, or Penn State.

I hope it's to Michigan State. Strengthen ND's resume. Sparty coming out of nowhere to win the B1G would be so sexy.

For real though, I originally felt the same way you did. Just assumed the B1G East would be a cluster, potentially a three-way tie situation. But I don't see scUM beating OSU or Penn State with how they look, and I think OSU's offense being in gear makes them way better than the rest of the division.

Chaos and a 2-loss B1G champ would be good for ND, though. Whoever comes out of the East is going to stomp Wisconsin in the B1G championship, so I'm not even considering an undefeated Wisconsin in playoff projections.

Stewart Mandel of the All-American has ND as No. 6.

6. Notre Dame (6-1): The Irish are for real. Their 377 rushing yards against USC marked their sixth game with at least 300 on the ground. Coordinator Mike Elko’s defense has now caused 17 turnovers, which the offense has turned into 13 touchdowns.

I don't see us getting up to 6. I see us with a high of 8 and a more realistic position of 9. I think we'll have the approval on jumping Ok State after they snuck outta Texas by 3. I see them remaining at 10 or maybe dropping to 11

The CFP ranking will be the interesting one. AP and Coaches will be pretty standard as you said.

Agreed - The CFP rankings come out around Halloween, is that correct?

From what I remember last year, I thought they were released at an earlier date.

Call me crazy but I think we could be as high as #5 in the inital CFP ranks. Outside of Bama, PSU and UGA I dont think anyone has been as convincing as us to date and played the schedule we have.

I love how after big wins like this u can tell which media personalities/companies have it out for ND.

Last week it was look at NDs schedule if they win out they are in the CFP.

After blowing out USC - AND is not guaranteed a spot at 11-1. They would still need help in the form of a 2 loss acc champ. They won't have a 13th data point like all the other conf champs. Then referencing how BIG12 added a CCG so don't tell them it doesn't matter if u play one or not.

We want PSU to win out. Eliminates Ohio State and Wisconsin eventually. I would argue TCU winning out is great too.

Bama/Georgia
PSU
TCU
ND

I have maintained a 11-1 ND team will not make the CFP with the caveat that there are multiple 1 or 2 loss teams in the mix. Then it would follow CCG. ND being idle during CCGweek hurts us.

With that being said I think UGa and Bama go undefeated and play each other in the SEC CCG. The loser stays in the CFP

Psu has to play OSU still plus CCG. I dont see them losing either. Wisconsic ... I am unconvinced but I believe they end up with a loss. I think PSU will ultimately represent the Big Televen

Leaves 1 spot for Big 12, ACC and ND. If ND wins out they will have beaten two of the highest ranked teams minus Clemson and possibly the ACC champion at that point. I dont think Clemson had the QB this year they need. I expect another loss at some point for them.

We have no congruent data points between ND and Big 12 so it comes down to SoS and losses and result of the CCG. Will our loss and schedule vault us over a possibly undefeated TCU or Confernece champ OU?

I completely agree. ND needs other teams to have 1 loss to make it.

If Alabama and Georgia meet up with both undefeated it would be an armageddon scenario for us. Say Bama loses? Their loss is the same as ours and since their so highly rated, they get in over us. Say Bama wins? UGA's loss is better than ours since the Tide are so highly rated. IMO- we need one to slip up before the SEC championship game and then hope for the undefeated one to win.

Our loss wouldn't be tainted if UGA loses a couple close ones and we keep rolling.

There is zero question in my mind if both UGA and Bama are undefeated when they meet in CCG they both get in no matter who loses.

I don’t think a one-loss Bama gets in over us. Their best win would be over LSU or Auburn. There’s a solid chance we’d have wins over five Top 25 teams and potentially the ACC or Pac 12 champ.

Georgia only has us as a ranked team. I think were doing them more of a favor by rolling over opponents... the next ranked opp for them is auburn but who knows if they'll stay ranked by then. Georgia has Florida Kentucky uSC all on deck... very unlikely they trip up before the CCG

Bama is in until they prove otherwise. A one loss Bama is in. They have earned that right.

The main thing I'm keeping an eye on is if any fuckers have Oklahoma State ranked over us. They are the most inexplicably ranked team ever.

Mandel wrote that perfectly. That’s like reading a dirty magazine. Both erotic and nostalgic.

I agree with your feelings on what Mandel wrote, but am I alone in thinking that you may be the only one who reads a dirty magazine?

Agreed. I am unconvinced by any Big12 team but Okie State has Rudolph as a heisman candidtae so that may play into it to.

At the end of the day this is all about $$$ if any of you think we don't get in over TCU you're nuts. ND in the playoffs would be massive for everyone involved.

If we got in with two SEC teams, the other conferences will absolutely MELT DOWN. Delicious.

ND's first opportunity to correct the polls. Next week is the 2nd opportunity and then Miami. If the Irish continue to pile points (the pollsters like that), they'll be in the playoffs before the Standford game.
