Can Echo control TV, BluRay, Audio components and their Firestick so that I can control all home theater funtions w/o smart remote? I don't suppose they would have an interface for Netflix or HBO.

I doubt it can control anything but the most basic functions (on/off, volume) at this point. And, even then, I think you would need the adapters to go to the electronics that you want to control. I won't receive it until Monday (I'm on the road for work right now), but I will play with it and try to remember to let you know.

bought the mrs a new hair dryer, hers just busted out, and got myself a cheap 7" kindle fire. we dont use notebooks much but the one i bought the mrs a couple years ago is at the end of its life. figure this one will suffice as its not a highly used item.

Love my Roku stick. Depends on what you want to do, though. If you run mostly Prime, Fire Stick is tops.

I have all my crap sync'd to it and use it to play music and such. I can use it to turn off lights, play and playlist, add something to a shopping list on my phone for later, etc.

I want it because I need a good speaker in my apartment and I would like to be able to tell something to play a song without getting up or having to use my phone. Good speakers cost at least that much anyway.

Side note.... I got it for my GF who is trying to replace Cable at her new place. She has Amazon Prime as well, which i heard works better with the Firestick?

They basically do the same thing and for the price I might have made the same decision. But the Fire Stick skews heavily in favor of Amazon content. The Roku is a bit more user-friendly when using various platforms.
