You are right about Leia. But regarding Rey she is going to be trained by Luke and will become a Jedi. By the end of the film there is really no way both her and Luke are alive. Unless she doesn't undergo training which wouldn't make much sense.

Could be. Could be that we spend most of the movie learning about Luke and he only agrees to train her at the end of the movie. It would make sense that he would be hesitant to immediately train someone since the last time he did it he made his nephew into a psychopath.

That's my personal theory as well. The counter-point would be that the sequel trilogy's central character is Kylo Ren, not Rey.

My personal "this would be awesome if they did this but they won't because it would be confusing for children" theory is that:

Kylo Ren will undergo a character transformation and end up being the central good guy of the story and is the one who kills Snoke in the end.

Luke screws up Rey's training and she dabbles in the dark side. Along the way we discover that Rey is Palpatine's daughter. Rey is further confused by this discovery of her lineage. She either stays bad or goes back to the light. I don't really care what her character conclusion is, either could be great.

Not after Luke takes that saber and strikes her down in the first scene of the new movie......

Rey already has training my dudes. Either that or she really is a Mary Sue. You don't just use the Jedi mind trick or summon a lightsaber with the Force on accident. Luke spent the entire Heir to the Jedi novel trying to get that Force summon thing right, and even then was barely able to pull it off in the wampa cave.

Kylo's redemption would be laaame. That was the plot of the OT, we don't need it again.

Or it could be this. She could already be trained, but not by a Jedi, which makes her not a Jedi. If my suspicions about her bloodline are correct, it wouldn't be a Jedi training her.

Something tells me they aren't too afraid to rehash major plot points of the first OT................... just a hunch tho.........

I don't know if I would call Vader eventually killing Palpatine the "plot" of Star Wars. It was a side story that's climax ended up coinciding with the actual third act climax (Luke's refusal to follow in his father's footsteps). Don't get me wrong, it was obviously a big moment that was made even bigger with the importance put on Vader's story in the Prequels. I just don't think I would call it the "plot" of the OT. I think Kylo has enough differences from Vader that it could be done in an interesting way.

I do really like the idea of Rey being Palpatine's daughter though. I don't think they'll do it because the Emporer really wasn't discussed in Episode VII. If they even mention Palpatine's name in Episode VIII though, I'm going to start preemptively freaking out.

I would be surprised if Luke has a major role in the movie. I think he will see less screen time than Han in TFA.

My guess is that Luke has been training Rey for a period of time when we first encounter him. I will be surprised if we see much of her training because it would again be a copy of TESB. But I guess they aren't afraid to do that as someone else pointed out.

Oooooh I disagree. I think we see the BAMF Luke that people have been waiting 30 years to see.

I'm fully expecting a copy of TESB in many ways... training, bad guys getting the upper hand, reveal of Rey's lineage,... very much 'to be continued' ending...

The timelines don't match up, unless he's got a clone out there somewhere, or unless she was frozen in a tube, or unless his semen was preserved and used to impregnate someone at a much later date.

I guess she could have been engineered from his DNA like the clones, but that would be lame.

Yeah the problem is he is not a great actor and you can't get away with him being in a movie for extended periods of time. There's a reason botox Carrie Fisher was in the movie sparingly.

****text is colored white because of the *SPOILER* sensitivity of this post, you can highlight the text read AT YOUR OWN RISK****

Rey - Obiwan's daughter
Luke and Snoke connection.....I'll drop this hint, who was the father of Anakin? or it might be more accurate to say, who has the ability to generate life from using the force ? Was Anakin the first 'chosen one'? or has there been numerous 'chosen ones' in the past?

When Rey has her premonition concerning the Knights of Ren, was Kylo Ren trying to kill her in that scene, or protect her? ....from who? ...another 'chosen one'?

Why does Anakin and Luke seem to struggle with the dark side so much?

When Kylo Ren stops the laser blast in mid flight in episiode 7, I wonder if that is a foreshadow to show how powerful another force user may be? such as, imagine if there was a force-user that had ability to stop 100's, or 1000's of those laser blasts at the same time, that would be an extreme show of power if something like that were to happen.

****
Unfortunately I've read a few spoilers for ep. 8, and of course who knows if they are true or not, but I have read some interesting possibilities. Including a 'big reveal' ala TESB, but more so a double 'big reveal' that gets you like a 1-2 punch, where you never saw the 2nd punch coming.

Hopefully everything Ive read has been wrong....but I just can't help myself sometimes.

Rey is a Jedi so I don't see how Luke can be "The Last Jedi."

That's why I'm thinking he and Leia (another Jedi) both die during the film.

Jedi is singular and plural so there could be more than one Jedi left and the title still works. I actually like it better if it means a handful since it seems really unlikely that the empire would have been able to track down and kill every single Jedi except kenobi and yoda.

Hamill is a way better actor than Fisher was.

Correct. If Rey is a Kenobi, she's OWK's granddaughter.

Which doesn't make any sense, given the whole jedi celibacy thing. There's nothing in any previous film to suggest Obi Wan was anything but a stickler for the rules. It was one of the primary frictions between his character and Anakin.

This is what I keep thinking as well, Jedi as plural, but not sure where they go from there.

OR "the last Jedi" is some strand of a prophecy that hasn't been fully revealed yet. Get some Harry Potter type action in there.

I didn't even think about that. I like that a lot more now that I see it as being plural. Reps.

El wrong-o.

Obi-Wan had a girlfriend, and her name was Duchess Satine of Mandalore. Their relationship was shown in The Clone Wars and is canon.
