He was pretty good in the 70s and 80s, when he had people that challenged him and kept him reigned in a bit. Not so much in the 90s and 2000s. If there weren't people to keep George in check, New Hope was going to be called "Adventures of Luke Starkiller, As Taken From the Journal of the Whills, Saga 1: The Star Wars"

The last part is absolutely correct whether you like the films or not. They’ve admitted as much in terms of each of the three stories being created as they got to to them. And,... yes,... it’s mind blowing. I’ve had scripts considered by Paramount, had writing partners/agents and have written recognition by the Screen Writers Guild. Even for a low level, failed writer like me, it’s completely mind blowing to think anyone took a film series of this stature and then go into preproduction of each film like,... okay, so,... what happens now??? It’s clear they just knew they’d make their money back on name alone so,... ‘fuck it’.

I thought this movie was decent fan service. I’d give it a 7/10. Most of the leaks were true so nothing was shocking. Only thing I was only surprised by was the return of Han and Luke, as that was somehow not leaked, but a pleasant surprise.A story that was all over the place, but thankfully shat on TLJ. I’m curious as to the direction that Disney takes Star Wars now. They clearly only did this trilogy for money, and not to “complete the saga”.

So many great moments. I loved all the spooky Sith stuff, C-3PO's hero moment, the twin suns on Tatooine, everything with Chewbacca, Leia's death.

I wrote a number of thrillers in the early 2000s and a couple dramatic scripts. A script I wrote called Good Samaritan was almost picked up and that got me the guild recognition. I’m so disenchanted with Hollywood now though that I’m often relieved it didn’t work out.

My favorite part of The Rise of Skywalker is how it turned all the condescending TLJ fanboys who hand-waved any criticism of Rian Johnson's nonchalant disregard for decades of SW world building as the "ranting of angry fanboys" into ranting angry fanboys. Slate's review is a perfect example of this with an utter lack of self-awareness.

I thought it was a fitting end to the trilogy and a noble effort on JJ's part to salvage a meaningful story arc. Ideally the blu-ray release will include some extended scenes that flesh out the rushed portions. I give it 800,000 out of 1,000,000 Holdo Maneuvers.

There's no prior relationship between Rey and Palpatine. But it's predictable. Sorry, which is it?

Not to strongly argue because I'm not interested in defending the Ringer, but this is a pretty easy "conflict" to reconcile.

There's no relationship between Rey and Palpatine so it's less emotional of a reveal because they have no direct conflict. That one's obvious.

It's also predicable because: (1) That's been a fanboy guess since the first time her parentage is brought up, (2) Palpatine one of the only characters in the original cannon that could still be related to her at the beginning of the movie, so if her parentage is going to be a thing, she's either going to be related to Palpatine or she's going to be related to the Skywalkers. It's one or the other, because no other parentage would really matter. (3) It's the Star Wars playbook (one of the most iconic moments ever like you said) to make the hero a descendant of a villain.

Just saw it and thought it was very good. Felt the went the safe route just like TFA which was a smart move after TLJ. Thought Ray and Palpatine were OP. Knights of Ren were a waste again. But I really enjoyed it and will be watching it again.

I think it's rewatchable, but I'm not running a counter or anything. Last Jedi...that pile is not rewatchable. I've seen it twice, just to be sure and confirm my first impression, and I regret all of it.

That scene made me tear up. Especially considering how difficult it was for me watching Han die in 7, it was really beautiful. Made me think of my late father a lot, hoping that he'd be proud of me despite my flaws and mistakes.

While imperfect, it was a very entertaining movie. This is from someone who did not like the first two in this trilogy. Yeah, it had some sappy moments, but it also had the best acting out of the three (Adam Driver/Kylo Ren primarily). Look, the cat has been out of the bag for several decades regarding Star Wars. The technology is not the same as it was back when it first rocked the world, which made Star Wars THEN so much more spectacular then now. Nowadays, we are inundated with CGI Marvelistic worlds that spoil audiences and pressure other blockbusters to compete visually. The stories are softer and less developed in most blockbuster cinema. Star Wars will never have the same affect that it did in those early decades. For grown adults to lose their sh*t over its failures is a lot like ND fans complaining about the video board being louder than the band. I think the kids call it BOOMER syndrome or something like that.

I went and saw TRoS last night because I didn't want to watch jumanji 2 with the rest of the family. In a nutshell, I liked it.

If you don't think a decent critic with nothing at stake politically couldn't think that the movie was bad I don't know what to say. I thought Rose was by far the worst part of VIII and I thought IX was a total mess.

The fact that Abrams threw out a bunch of questions without answers and ends up having to be the one that has to answer them is deeply satisfying. That Star Wars fans are tripping over themselves to give him a pass because TLJ wasn't interested in answering his own unplanned setup is unsurprising and sad.

It's almost poetic how JJ failed so hard to complete his own story.
