Ooooh this is great news.

The more the better IMO. If any of it sucks i'll just ignore it like the prequels.

I'm a #Prequelist. They're trash movies but the underlying story of Palpatine and the Clone Wars are legit.

I love the Marvel Netflix shows but Agents of SHIELD is trash, for example.

Someone on twitter said it best: If Disney decided to give Rian Johnson a trilogy after seeing The Last Jedi, this movie is about to be legendary.

Man they're so bad it's hard to appreciate anything from them. I'll go to my grave wanting to see the Topher Grace edit.

Also Empire had the asteroid field along with THAT music.

OMG The transition of the track titled "Hyperspace" into the "Asteroid Field" track takes me back in time every I hear it. I can just hear a view notes of the Hyperspace track and immediately get a spinal tap like deja vu feeling of being a kid.

It sounds badass, but I'm in the Wiz camp that the political intrigue is still necessary, and Grace's edit completely eliminates it.

The edit DOES make the entire prequel trilogy about Anaking Skywalker, though, which fits with the main series' purpose, so that's cool. I'd like to see it. We need someone to hack Topher Grace.

Anybody find any spoilers?

No. It seems they have done a great job keeping stuff out of the media. Not that I want to see spoilers now anyway.

I gobbled up everything I could on Thor Ragnarok and in the end the movie was less satisfying I think than it would have been if I didnt know 85% opf the story heading into it.

I still say the swerve for the movie is gonna be that Rey is Luke and Leia's child

Watched EpVII with the kids yesterday for our pre-opening workout. Damn that one was good - really can't wait for our Sunday matinee. 5 year old is upset because he knows the bad guys are going to win.

Her origin has to be revealed in this one right? Like Luke in Cloud City? I have just come to terms that I will likely know before seeing the movie - Thursday to Sunday is just too long to avoid it with a 14 year old in tow.

The most common rumors I've seen floating around. Potential spoilers:

- Rey and Kylo kill Snoke together, before Kylo turns on Rey.

- Luke uses a new ability called "Force Project" to zap himself across the galaxy to save Rey from Kylo at the last minute, but this drains him of his life force and he dies.

- Rey is the chosen one. There was a mis-translation of the prophecy and the chosen one is supposed to be female. This reeks of SJW propaganda but it's supported by some recent canon. In "From a Certain Point of View," we learn that Yoda wanted to train Leia, not Luke, in the ways of the Force.

Random question:

This is the saga of the Skywalker name, according to many, and the quest to bring "balance" to the Force.

But what does "balance" mean????

No more Sith?

No more Jedi OR Sith?

Jedi and Sith existing together, without combat, exploring all aspects of the Force and learning how to channel fear/anger/hate/wisdom/peace in useful ways without needing to battle?

I'll hold to the Grey Jedi theories, and my own personal belief that Anakin bringing "balance" to the Force wasn't that he killed the emperor and beat evil once and for all, but rather that Luke will learn through his father's trials that both sides of the Force are necessary within the universe, and that's why he's being so emo and hiding out after the disaster with Kylo and the academy or whatever.

The tension we see in the trailers is probably because he knows how wrong things will go if he tries to bring his new beliefs to light.

Anakin is the chosen one, period. It's not up for debate in my opinion, at least not in established canon.

If you want to have your mind blown before The Last Jedi, watch the "Mortis" trilogy from The Clone Wars animated series.

Seeing it 8pm Thursday. I am nervous because I think it is critical that this movie is amazing. If it is true that they are planning tv shows and another trilogy and everything they have to nail this one. TFA was entertaining but the similarities with ANH were just too much for me. This can't just be TESB with new characters.

I will edit my OP... I meant "Anakin killing the emperor" since that action is the one that would have brought "balance" to the Force if the series had truly ended with RotJ.

But obviously the prophecy was (1) wrong or (2) not about Anakin at all. If the prophecy was specifically about the "Skywalker" name, then any error means that Luke is actually the one to bring balance to the Force, or else someone descended from Luke (please don't be Rey; throw us an actual curveball, Disney).

I'd put my money on Luke fulfilling the prophecy by bringing Rey and Kylo together, where they can defeat Snoke and then carry on both sides of the Force in peace. Luke probably dies in the effort, too, and Chewie probably flies off in the Falcon with R2 and C3PO just to completely shut the door on the old guard.

Bonus points if the prophecy is actually about Kylo Ren, who would still be a Skywalker bringing balance to the Force. That would be a decent curveball AND avoid any cliches with Rey being Luke's daughter.

Pretty much my thoughts... TFA was okayish on first viewing but it's hard to get past the obvious rehashed plot AND the fact that so much of the story is not really explained (you shouldn't have to be a massive SW pep viewing/reading every side story/show to know wtf is going on) with the NO v Resistance... It also feels super freakin lazy how they just took the Republic out like that. I'm hoping for something new that also doesn't shit on or semi reboot the original movies further.

Rouge One did make me much more optimistic about the non Skywalker films though, that was the first legit good Star Wars movie since the OG trilogy imo. Hopefully that continues.

This is what I worry about.

We obviously have an assault on a secret base by First Order walkers, which will probably be defeated through unique circumstances; we have off-world training, complete with drama in a cave; we see Rey in previews wielding Kylo's lightsaber, meaning she is probably in some position where "I am your _____" is revealed in some way/shape/form; the movie will undoubtedly end on a sour note, ala Empire, because this is a second installment of a Star Wars trilogy, and it's expected.

Very much disagree. Rogue One had that dope space battle at the end, but I couldn't have cared less about any of the characters. I fell in love with Rey the second we met her. I also think Rogue One required more "outside homework" to really appreciate. You may think you knew what was going on, but unless you read the novel Catalyst, you really didn't.

Also, I really don't understand the "this is repetitive" complaints. Repetitive is Star Wars. Star Wars is bad guys with super weapons and plucky heroes who shoot down TIE fighters in X-wings to save the day.

Very much disagree.

I figured you would honestly and it's all good... I stand by everything I said. My expectations for TLJ are really low... my expectations for the next SWStory film(s) are much higher. I'm on the other side of the fence with the characters too. None of the new Skywalker film characters really grabbed me in TFA. I'm not saying "I couldn't care less," but I'm heading in that direction.

I think if I were honest I really didn't like the throwing away of the Thrawn trilogy too... Jade, Karde, Thrawn and that story line>>> Rey, Finn, Ren and a New Hope clone.... but I'm trying Ringo, I'm trying REAL hard... we will see how this next film plays out. If the concerns that gk, lion and I have come to light I think my focus will just move completely to SWS films and the old school media.

I don't mind repetitive plot points and aspects of the series... the bad guys will always be looking for a new super weapon, the good guys will always be trying to hide out and then strike when the time is right (or when they're discovered), and the main character is always going to have some close connection to the bad guys.

I just don't want to see this be a point-for-point remake, which TFA basically was, just with new characters and a few tweaks.

And for the record, I didn't mind it with TFA. I thought it was a tremendous way to intro a new generation to the Star Wars story, while also catering to the OG fans. I'll just be bummed if the entire trilogy is basically a rehashing. There's no reason that they can't stay true to the formula while also throwing some fresh intrigue and a different storyline out there.
