This guys a real winner. Waxing the carrot while talking to the rape survivor brought in to educate the team. Read she taught them to obtain consent before engaging in sexual activity with another person. Are we kidding here? People need to be taught these things?

Yep, I think a good number are pretty freakin dumb. Not all, but a good portion. Off the top of my head, these guys would be high school phys ed teachers if not for football:

The whole thing about her claiming she didn't think about hanging up on him is kind of problematic. I get that a person could "freeze" in an in person situation, because of the concern over immediate physical harm etc. Her claim has the possibility of being true, but I don't think you can take it as the gospel truth. Maybe a person can freeze when not even in someone's immediate presence and just over the phone, but it's hard to immediately accept her word on this one.

SIAP........Listening on the radio, USA Today became aware of this because she contacted them after deciding MSU was not moving fast enough on this. MSU said they were aware and handling it through the proper process. This raises the question, what just happened that would elevate this to the point they take action against Tucker now and not earlier? Nothing IMO. MSU was just hoping to keep this hush hush after the Nassar fiasco.

With Tucker admitting he did it, it now becomes a matter if it was consensual as he claims or it wasn't as she claims. Regardless, MSU has another egg on their face. Whomever at MSU that wanted to resolve this quietly should probably be fired.

A big story in USA Today is what happened. That's all.

And so it doesn't *really* matter if it was consensual, does it? One could simply not engage in phone sex with someone who has the resources to make your life difficult if things go sideways. And given his position, maybe Tucker shouldn't have. But he did. And now his employer has egg on their face of the worst variety, and he hasn't lived up to his enormous contract. Game over.

I know in this day and age, anything short of tar and feathering the accused is considered victim blaming or some such, but I have questions...

1.) Does the United States still champion "innocent until proven guilty"? Without a smoking gun (i.e. recording of the conversation), doesn't MSU open themselves up for a wrongful termination suit? Have to think of there was a smoking gun, he'd have been fired, which be hasn't been.

2.) What sticks out to me here is that he's admitting to the phone thing, just that it was consensual/mutual. Again, without a smoking gun, it would be he said/she said. MSU wouldn't fire him over that without said smoking gun for the reason aforementioned. Why not just deny the allegations all together? Why admit moral guilt? Don't see that being good for him, unless that's what actually happened.

3.) I'm not a psychology expert, so I truly don't understand why she didn't just disconnect the call once it was clear it was headed down a path she wasn't willing to reciprocate or accept. Can someone who is a psych major chime in?

I'm not particularly a fan of this guy, and I have no dog in this fight other than what's just. I just have questions about some things that seem off to me.

He's not being charged with a crime, and he doesn't have a constitutional right to be Michigan State's football coach. Even if it was entirely consensual - and you're right there's probably no way to know for certain that it wasn't - it's usually a bad idea to sleep with people you do business with. Especially when that business involves teaching young men under your charge not to treat women as sexual objects.

It's just a terrible decision on Tucker's part, and ultimately it's Michigan State's call on what to do about it. They'll find a way out of his contract if they have to. Just a matter of how much you need to pay the lawyers.

I still remember all those recruits MSU was getting a few years back that so many ND fans were cringing about "losing." Would love one of those "How it Started/How it's going" Tweets right about now in that regard.

Exactly. This is really what it's about. They know Tucker isn't the coach they thought and his contract is too steep to get out right now. This comes to their awareness and they will find some clause in the contract to void it as a result. Also, after the heat they took for all the other sexual misconduct years ago, they will make a point here. In the end, even if they pay 50 cents on the dollar in a termination suit, they get him off the books cheaper than they would have and they win the public game. But make no mistake, if he was still winning 10 games a year I don't think they would take this stance.
