ITT we discuss all things Michigan State

Wondering has anybody watched Michigan State this year? Great first half against Oregon and then shit the bed. Awesome first half against Nebraska and a terrible 4th quarter. Connor Cook is a damn good QB, but they don't seem to be the same team as last year. I can't tell if they are better off or taken a step back. They seem to have lost a ton of leadership on defense from last year.

Anybody watch them this year want to give me there thoughts?

I think they are on cruise control right now. If they don't ass hammer Michigan in 2 Saturdays then I'll agree. But I think its all about complacency right now. Michigan blood is in the water and they are going to run a train on them.

New EL resident here. I think Sparty is the real deal. The Nebraska 4th Q was a real fluke. They have a vicious swarming defense and a moderately decent to good QB. They would be in my group of 4 right now. (That's not an endorsement of the B1G, which I think is mostly the MAC with money. I just think Sparty is head and shoulders above the rest of the conference right now.)

Who lost at home to Arizona?

They lost head to head by 19 and Oregon's win at UCLA is more impressive to me than State's win at home against Nebraska (the rest of their wins are worthless).

You'd take State if they played on a neutral site?

Playoffs? You'd take them over the undefeated teams right now - MSU, FSU, Ole Miss, Baylor and ND?

Thats what I see when I watch them. But they can't get stupid about it, it almost cost them the Nebraska game. I think their D is one step back from last year, but their O is a step ahead for sure. Cook looks to be a NFL quality QB.

Woah...over Oregon? The team they convincingly lost to? Over 2 of these: FSU, ND, Baylor, Ole Miss and. Miss St? I don't see how anyone could make that argument. Shoot, I could even hear people saying auburn and Bama should be in over them.

There's no way they should be in the top 4 at this time.

Yep, and aside from Oregon their OOC schedule was complete crap. They nearly melted down against a decent Nebraska team and Purdue had the ball with a chance to tie in the final minutes of the game, which they gave up 31 in.

I actually like Sparty. Dantonio and Narduzzi have been doing work in EL. Plus they got Izzo and one of the better mascots. AND they have been giving scUM holy hell.

Yeah, they seem to be becoming the go to place for NFL backup QBs.

Pretty sure they have 3 starting, no?

Cousins and Stanton are technically back ups but have started in place of injured #1's this year. Hoyer has been a back up but is holding off JFF right now. Hell, Philly's Nick Foles spent a year with Sparty and even Jeff Smoker saw some time in the League. Weird that they had middling success at best with those guys except for the very end of Cousin's time.

I think they'd be clutch in a rematch against Oregon. I'd put them in over FSU, Baylor, and Ole Miss. Still waiting on data for ND. I think the Oregon thing was mostly because they were a young team on the road that messed up in the fourth. Oregon has a tendency to score a lot quickly. That point spread wasn't indicative of what was actually a very close game.

I should add that I really don't care about the Spartans. I've just had the opportunity to watch them a lot so far and I think they're a lot more impressive than people are giving them credit for.

I'm completely confused on why we have a Michigan State thread. I have no animosity towards the Spartans. Nor are they a particularly relevant team to ND... we don't play them, seldom recruit against them, they aren't battling us for a playoff spot (yet), and they're a stable program with little drama.

Soooo...?

My favorite thing about the Spartans is that they pull recruits away from Michigan and OSU, but rarely away from us.

+1. If ND got wiped off the planet tomorrow, I'm hopping on the Sparty wagon.
