This mental health thing could be the beginning of the end of Harbro. Failing to win the big ones or beat Ohio State hasn't done him any favors yet, but this mental health issue could begin his exit the same way Zach Smith was for Urban.
For a smaller market team with a less known HC, I would be in agreement, but in his case I have a hard time seeing that happen, unfortunately. Which is asinine because there is irrefutable, scientific evidence at this point linking competitive football and mental health issues.
But the reality is, scUM really dug themselves in a hole with the amount of money and power they've given Harbaugh. I mean, Hoke literally got fired for basically the same results that Harbaugh has produced so far in four seasons. Harbaugh has seven more wins in 4 years, but has a worse record against rivals than Hoke did during that same time span, and an abysmal record against top-25 teams.
Yet we have heard no rumblings from anyone within their athletic department about the seat heating up. Maybe a few fans, but they are outnumbered by Harbaugh-excusers on the radio waves here as well. Man can do no wrong. "It's only been four years! He will right this ship, just have to give him more time." or the classic: "he could be better, but who else will we hire? There's no one better we could bring here. We have to ride this thing out."
I think they are scared to admit that they thought they hired their savior, but if HARBAUGH HIMSELF can't return their program to the glory days, they have literally no idea who to turn to.
Moral of the story: they will make up excuses for this story like they've made up excuses for his on the field results so far.
Even though we are all waiting for the day that Jimmy Harbaugh gets the hook, and we can bask in the glory of that pompous fan base running around like chickens with their heads cut off, I think it's a long ways away, and wouldn't be surprised if it ends with Harbaugh leaving on his own terms, despite this story and his above-average results.
