Yeah this Mlive article has Bush quoted saying he still has to talk to coaches and family for decision, but he "wants" to play in bowl game. Still some players up in the air though. Those listed above as well as Patterson, but I have no idea why he would go pro. Talk about over-hyped.

Smith’s insurance policy states if he did not receive an NFL offer that was at least $7.2 million for four years, he would be covered for loss of draft value. His current contract with the Cowboys is for four years, $6.495 million.

The difference equals his $705,000 payout.

But a clause in the policy states Smith must pay back that amount if his total compensation exceeds $7.2 million. That could easily happen when and if Smith gets to his second contract.

The so-called “clawback” provision essentially can render moot the value of a loss of value payout.

Dang, that's crap. I mean I get it from both the payer's side and players side, but that sucks that at the end of the day, he will still miss out on every "top 5" dollar he would have made in his first contract.

"You can make it up in 2nd contract" - sure. But that's assuming you make it as a star in the NFL, stay healthy, and still... you're giving up ~$10 million over that first contract easily by going #33 vs. #5.

"What's a few million to them?". Easy to say when it's not you. If I had $20 million in the bank and could get $30 million, I'd do a lot to make that happen.

I get players sitting out of bowl games. I just hope it stops there and players don't start sitting out regular season games during their Jr/Sr year.

Reason #4,587 we need a viable developmental league outside of the college game. There are a number of different reasons to play football. Love of the game, school pride, a college degree, and a future pro career are all perfectly legitimate. It's a farce that we don't allow people who only care about one or two of those things to do so.

I think a common misunderstanding of LOV insurance for athletes is that it is supposed to make them whole. That isn't the case. The underwriter typically offers the payout to be at 50-60% of the expected value of their draft slot. A claw back also makes perfect sense for what they are insuring.

I guess I didn't know that, learn something new everyday. And now that I think about it, it kind of makes sense. Jaylon seems like a unique situation where he still drafted relatively high and is a genetic freak to recover the way he has.

I've heard the argument that this years QB class is weaker than next years. Idk if that's true or not, but it's definitely been talked about.

This year I think if it's listed out it'd be something like this:

Herbert
Lock
Haskins
Grier
Thorson
Browning
Finely
Stidham
and then maybe patterson at 9.

I might be wrong about these names. I don't follow the nfl at all really. But listening to people talk about cfb I feel like these are the names i consistently hear about. Basically, unless people in Patterson's camp are telling him to go pro for selfish reasons, he should stay imo. Although I have no idea what next years class at QB looks like. I just don't think that this years is THAT much worse than the following class like when Kiser had to make his decision.

Much cheaper to rent a gym and pay a handful of guys as opposed to paying 40 or so players, provide equipment, pay a much larger coaching staff, etc. The NFL isn't inclined to do so while the colleges are doing it for them. I could see them having trouble filling the rosters.

Well, it already has. Nick Bosa and Ed Oliver would both be playing, if they were getting paid. This goes even back to Clowney who was "banged" up quite a bit his junior year. The real question is, how much more of this is going to occur.

I don't really blame the players. Everyone else has been treating college football as business for a long time, the players have finally caught up.

I believe two or three weeks after the surgery, his father said the severity of the injury and surgery was 10-12 week recovery. I am not remembering anything else being released by OSU stating anything different. If there was, I missed it. But the range his father mentioned, would have meant he might have been able to make it for the NW game, but that isn't even certain. So it's not like it's a slam dunk and he bolted the last three games.
