Not sure if serious, but I highly doubt Harbaugh would take on one of BK's long time assistant/proteges. His ego is way too big for that.

Harbaugh would likely go for a more proven commodity, but if he wanted Elston, I'm 100% serious.

Fit aside, why would that be an ego blow? Was it for Urban when he took ND assistants over the past few years?

Stealing from a rival and adding a quality assistant, not that ego should play a factor at all, but that's probably an ego boost to Harboner if anything.

Those ND assistants were making lateral moves and in Warriner's case, that was a mutual parting of ways. He'd be elevating an ND assistant to first time DC position when he just had Don Brown, arguably the best DC in CFB. An ND assistant that was passed up for Clark Lea, a first time DC in his own right. That's a huge ego blow, IMO. I love Mike Elston but I highly doubt Harbaugh does that.

Top Defenses this year...

Mississippi State - Bob Shoop ($400,000)
Clemson - Brent Venables ($2.2M)
Alabama - Tosh Lupoi ($1.1M)
Washington - Jimmy Lake ($1.1M)
Michigan - Don Brown ($1.3M)
Notre Dame - Clark Lea (IDK)
Kentucky - Matt House ($650,000)
Iowa - Phil Parker ($725,000)
Michigan St - Mike Tressel ($622,000)
Cincinnati - Marcus Freeman ($275,000)
Fresno State - Bert Watts ($275,000)
App State - Bryan Brown (Just named Louisville DC)

Most of the top guys won't move schools unless its for a head coaching gig because almost anything that other teams offer, they'll just match unless you throw out a ridiculous number (like the Elk). I think Michigan might want to keep their hire in-house to continue with Don Brown's defense. They could go out and make a splashy hire, but I'd think they'd promote one of their position coaches if they feel they're ready.

But, you do know that Elston isn't a DC, right?

Just an FYI, Elston is not being named the Michigan DC if Don Brown leaves. Idk why that's even a consideration. There could be a situation where he's offered the DL job and more money and maybe a title or two, but no way he's being passed up to be DC three times at ND and then magically be handed the reigns of a top ten defense when that defensive coordinator job can attract some of the best DC's in the entire college football industry. It's just not gonna happen.

I agree they wouldn't take him (lack of experience/sexy name).

But, you were comparing DC salaries and their relationship with promotions to HC... I was just pointing out that Elston's salary isn't relevant to your strange salary listing.

Maybe VanGorder will back out of BG and head further north to carry on the #1 defense in the land.

It's funny to think that, and yet....BVG's greatest performance was against scUM, shutting down their offense for the first time in hell knows how long. I'm still not sure how that happened.

For one glorious evening, BvG was a gangster.

I'd say he was a gangster for two weeks.

LAX (correctly) started the "BVG is a gangsta" thread after the Stanford win, where he defied convention and blitzed down Stanford's throat on their final drive, rather than sitting in prevent and letting them throw into position for a miracle field goal.

Ironically, he called for the exact opposite against Stanford in '15, and it may have cost ND a shot at the playoffs (though Oklahoma likely would have been in over ND either way).

BVG's defenses fool no one....except Michigan. That says more about Michigan than it does BVG.

Wasn't a salary listing. Just happened to include salary on the list of the top defenses in college football. Just as an idea if Michigan would be able to poach one of those "hot" coordinators. The salaries are just a small part of that list. One thing that comes out of it is that Bob Shoop will be offered a $1M per year contract somewhere, but the most likely scenario is he just signs an extension with a huge raise real soon.

Hiring Manny Diaz over Don Brown, interesting. Definitely going with the younger/sexy hire. TO chain, recruiting prowess, etc. Brown is the better DC, it's not even close. Plus he is very familiar with that area. And, he's been a pretty darn good recruiter in his own right because his defenses have been so good.

Yeah, Diaz ain't that great, just ask Mack Brown. There was no love lost among the Texas fans when Diaz was DC there. Sure, they didn't have a TO chain at that time, but Miami's defense wasn't that great this season either. I think the luster and energy of the TO chain has worn off.

Well not a B1G title or even a B1G East division title and DEFINITELY not a national title.

Sorry for the confusion. I meant like assistant Head Coach, recruiting coordinator, or something like that. Not at all national titles. Don’t think Michigan has the chops to win one. Pluse they lose their best RB Karan Higdon, their best tight end in Zach Gentry, their pass rushing duo that was one of their best ever, Devin Bush too should be gone, and lastly they could lose 1-3 guys in their secondary depending on the NFL draft choices. I think this was their year to do it. I think @ Wisconsin, @ Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan State, and Ohio State will be tough to get through

Records and statistics will get you the interview, but when they sit down to interview with the AD, it's more about personality (does it fit the university?, do they mesh with the AD?), outline for running a program and ultimately, how the present it.

Brown has been around for a while. I would imagine his interview would be more low key and business like, where Diaz's given his age was probably more rah rah, let's get this program winning.

I saw that rumor making the rounds earlier from Chat Sports, but has anyone confirmed it?

A few years ago, Chat Sports notoriously made up news. Just completely fabricated sources and news for clicks. I don't know if they still do that.

From what I've seen they've admitted these are rumors they are "hearing" and not confirmed. The only one confirmed is Gary.
