I have mixed emotions about that. On the one hand, FVCK Michigan. On the other hand, come some talent occasionally go elsewhere other than Alabama?

just like in 2016 when Bo was fired for recruiting violations. Until Shithole Tuscaloosa has to play by everyone else's rules, they will be buying talent for years to come. Saban or No Saban. Georgia learned the tricks of the trade and their still pouting.
Reminds me of the 49ers early 90 era. Jimmy Johnson was killing them and they said... PAY WHATEVER IT TAKES TO WIN!

Bama has to have a melt down at some point don't they?

The day Saban finally blows a gasket and dies, right there on the football field.

We suffered through 30+ years of Perkins, Curry, Dubose, Price & Shula. Other than a couple of good years during the Stallings era, we had 30 years of garbage and mediocrity. God owes us 10 more years of Saban then we'll call it even.

You've already had the greatest run we've ever seen in the sport. I think the debt has been paid you greedy sunuva.

We just want 1/4 of your current success in recruiting and on the field.

I’m not even asking for 25%.

I just want to see ONE (1) championship in my lifetime, and I will be happy and satisfied for eternity after that, regardless of what happens in ensuing seasons.

Yeah, the football gods have probably paid their debt to us by now. :)

I think there's something different about ND this year compared to 2012. This feels much more like a permanent change in direction for your program. I think this translates into ND being a major draw for top recruits again. With Khaki Pants looking inept and becoming a punch line for jokes, Urban leaving, and BK finally becoming the guy you thought he was when you hired him, you guys can be the team that gets the lion's share of the top recruits for that entire region and one of the 5 places to go if you want to have a serious shot of playing for a title.

Let's hope. Someone needs to give Bama a challenge.

And we'd be thrilled to be in the top 4 teams every year. That's way above most Irish fan's hopes.

This is a nice sentiment...it isn't true though...you may think it's true, but it isn't...

ND will never be as Bama is today. For one, 1 in 20 of Bamas recruits could get into ND much less remain there. Bama is a football factory, that is it. As a institution of higher learning, it is a joke to anyone outside of the state of Alabama, easily the 3rd or 4th best educational institution in its own state.

It is fine to dream for greater success for ND football wise but that is the only thing Bama can remotely brag about success wise (and far better women) over ND.

One key difference being that the Cowboys and 49ers are NFL teams, so paying players is part of the deal.

Just me, though, or does 'Bama at this point get a bad rap on this stuff? At least by SEC standards.
I mean, I know they play on the edge with greyshirting and the like, but when it comes to recruiting, they don't need to do the real dirty stuff anymore. Kids line up to play for Bama. You don't need bagmen when you can offer a shot to play for the best coaches, compete for championships and make it to the NFL.
FWIW, they've also dramatically improved their APR and graduation rates in recent years. Only Vanderbilt is higher in the SEC now. https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2018/05/apr_shows_nick_sabans_alabama.html

I always feel like the worst cheating stuff goes on at the wannabes - schools like Miss. State, Louisville, Arkansas that are trying to compete. The blue bloods don't need to cheat as much. Certainly not Alabama in 2018.

This is unnecessary. We are discussing Notre Dame football and we need to stop tooting our own academic horn. We know it's more difficult to recruit at Notre Dame but only 1/2 is academic. The other half relates to the staff making the golden helmet shine again.

We have to keep putting out a winning product and everything else will be taken care of. We've had the most consistent recruiting I've ever seen. Every position is covered in every class. Bama's recruiting is good because Saban is great. He has his team locked in every year.

Remember when we used to whiff on a position or two each class?

And then follow it up with another whiff, or perhaps even worse just take 3 bodies the next year for the sake of bodies?

Anyone want to go check how many recruits in that Bama class... which is tracking to be the best ever, per a 247 tweet I saw... have an ND offer?

In reference to the recruiting, one could argue that there is as much "dirty stuff" now as before and is the reason they have been able to maintain this. Congrats to Bama for raising their rates.

The "dirty stuff" at its worst was rampant over-signing. That still happens a tiny bit, but it's much less pervasive now that there is a hard cap on 25 players per class. You still get backwards counters on early enrollees that might allow you to go over 25 if things play out just right, and there is still the occasional greyshirt that waits a year to see if there is room in the next class, but those limits can't be stretched like they once were, especially now that the new rule has played itself out over several cycles.

5 years ago, [SEC SCHOOL] might have had 30 verbal commitments with NSD still a month away. They can't get away with that now.

Nice, and of those... 3? 4? were real offers where we pursued the player. Wild to think about.

Looks like only perhaps two - Tyson and Metchie - even visited Notre Dame. Though I may be missing someone. And of course there’s Antonio Alfano. Weren’t we his dream school?

To be fair though, a lot of these are Deep South kids we’d never have much shot with. They pulled a few from places like Maryland and New Jersey who we were in on too. But mostly they’re fishing in a different pond.

FWIW, six of our commits - seven with Foskey - had Bama offers. Of course since they offer every four star in the nation it’s hard to know how many were commitable.

Academics are a key differentiator of the ND experience. Not discussing them would be like USC not discussing Southern California women or Saban not discussing player salaries.

How else would you explain how a coach who went 6-6, 6-5, 7-5, 6-6, 9-2, 8-4, 10-3, 8-5, 13-1, 9-3, and then bombed in the NFL showed up at a school with a long history of NCAA infraction cases who wasn't relevant for a decade and turned them into the greatest powerhouse in the history of CFB overnight?

Look at the NCAA MBB controversy. It's no coincidence that Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina divide up the majority of the top twenty recruits every year.
