I don't know. First, Stoops is really great at making a first impression, and closing on the hard sell.
Second, what team has the shortest route to playing time? Just off the top of my head, with my prejudices fully functioning, I would believe that Whisky and Iowa would have much better lines with much better depth.
I notice a lot of good linemen that don't consider ND, beside not qualifying, don't like the idea of taking a redshirt year. And I notice a lot of schools lately including Clemson, Texas, and a couple of the better B1G0T schools have been playing freshmen on the o-line. What do you think? Could this be the factor? Could he have been sold on going from being squeezed out at UofM to potentially being a starter at a playoff team, leaders of the Big12, and being able to show everyone?
I agree with you that Whisky and Iowa would be better choices. But for my money I would look for a PWO at ND. Well you know me!

Completely disagree. You have no idea how each school was recruiting him, who he clicked with, his academic aspirations (major, etc). You go where you feel the most comfortable. Plenty of successful people come out of Oklahoma, not to mention they have a top football program. Kids like Swenson can succeed anywhere. If Oklahoma felt like home, then good on him...
Interesting. Biff Poggi, father of Michigan player Henry P., just retired from coaching at Gilman. He was rumored to be joining Harbaugh's staff much like Chris Partridge did after coaching at Paramus, NJ.
When (Gilman players) Devery Hamilton ,OT flipped to Stanford from Michigan with an uncommitted teammate, Dorian Maddox, Biff has tweeted that he will be joining Stanford's staff.
Stephen Spanellis, OL, who flipped from Virginia to Michigan, is also from Gilman. Calm yourselves. Spanellis does not have a Stanford offer.
It's just business. Players have their meritocracy.

Choosing Oklahoma over Wiscy and Iowa is not a bad choice if you're looking at "Championship Contender" as a big selling point.

I will say that Kirk Ferentz develops Offensive Linemen as well as any coach in the country. But, even as an Iowa fan, I wish the kid well. He made the best of a crappy situation.

If that's why a Chicago kid with an NFL OT's body would choose OU over Wisconsin or Iowa, it's a bad choice.
Anyways, I wrote that because I saw elsewhere he was offered by both Wisco and Iowa. After looking at the sites and digging a little, he was not.
As it is, if he doesn't make the NFL, he's in an obvious $$$ hole by not going to Northwestern. Same goes for Illinois to a lesser extent. The fact that he's from an affluent part of Chicagoland and may want to remain there after college makes the difference in value of a Northwestern or Illinois degree vs an Oklahoma degree that much greater.

Iowa, Wisconsin, Stanford, and Bama all seem to churn out NFL OL like clock-work. You can usually count on those schools having good offensive lines.
I really like ND and OSU's OL coaching too, only been at the job for a 3-4 years each but both of them seem to know how to really produce quality OL's.
And OL position is really 100% coaching and development. You can throw away the recruit rankings for OL's IMO, they are pretty much worthless.
