Johnson isn't a high caliber player so his commitment isn't going to help Powder Harbaugh win any B1G championships. Of the three commits from Prattville Harbaugh has, only K. Davis has what I would consider potential to be good at the next level.

Interstingly enough, there was a lot of talk among coaches down here about the satellite camp and it was fairly negative. Most comments were along the lines that Chad Anderson (HC at Prattville) had really messed up hosting a B1G school and that it would probably hurt his program with in state offers moving forward. I don't necessarily buy that - if you can play you will get offers - but the overwhelming consensus was that Anderson broke a long held tradition of Alabama and Auburn having the first cracks at D1 talent. Will be interested to see if other satellite camps have a similar effect throughout the SE. Breaking or tweeking long standing relationships between HS coaches and SEC schools is serious business in the South. And Anderson has put himself put there with this one.

I imagine taking this kid was a "get your foot in the door" move by Harbaugh. and listen his HS HC got the kid a great scholly from a very decent school so he should be applauded. It's not like Bama and Auburn would ever blackball a star recruit because they don't like his HC?

Haven't watch this kids tape nor do I know anything about him but this is what comes of these camps. Finding talent that you wouldn't have been able to otherwise. Its great to hold camps at ND and II looks like its going to be a huge success but UM is going to be able to evaluate a lot of players and some will be easy commits because they are under the radar type guys.

Visiting their boards, they always used to laud their coaches for pulling in these big time highly rated recruiting classes and rip on MSU for their low ranked classes (even though they seemed to get better work out of their lower rated guys). Now, they are pumping up their low star guys as guys that fit their system and JH is going to turn them into monsters and all the MSU people care about is stars.

Its hilarious how hypocritical they have become and only a few even seem remotely self aware about it.

Also, is anyone surprised that their class is bringing in these chunks of 3 star guys considering the JH brand?

3 star U?

HAHA. Number one rule of message boards:

When we sign a 3 star recruit, he's a diamond in the rough. Our coaches know WAY more than stupid Rivals or Scout or 24/7. Trust the coaches.

When a rival signs a 3 star recruit: SUCKERS!!! Man, they are getting SUPER desperate!

Not a bad plan for them this year however. JH gets his type of player, fills up the class, prior to the season start. Their season isn't going to be that good anyway, so getting his type of players to lock in, is smart.

They may need some time to develop, but at least he has players he can work with... unlike what is at the school now. He knows it, we all know it....

Yup. There are certainly diamonds in the rough out there, but give me a 4 or 5 star guy any day that can make the grades. When looking at our depth chart, I'd bet it's 75% 4 stars, 15% 5, and 10% 3.

It's not all about the stars, but they are directionally correct more often than not.

Agree. Kind of annoying considering JH's background.

To be fair, trashing on Michigan always seems justifiable.

Generally, 4 and 5 star players are more immediate impact players, hence the mixed reactions. I am surprised that he hasn't landed more of those type of recruits yet because 1) they have poor talent, 2) Hairball had success at Stanford and the NFL, 3) Michigan is a traditional football school. It would seem to be an attractive place for guys looking for early PT.

I think what Harbaugh is trying to do, besides mine those diamonds in the rough, is to build a base of character kids. From that base once established then you go out and knock on 5 star doors. Once the system is running then you add the marquee players. You can't do that year 1 because I think he knows its going to be a shit show for atleast a year or 2 before stuff gets rolling.

The funny part on MGoBlog is the constant hammering of taking back the state from Dantonio. Taking back the 5 and 4 star kids. All the while he has built that program on superior scouting and coaching up 2 and 3 star kids.

The B1G has always been about "locking down their states." They've always harped on not letting in state talent go to other programs, whether it be within the conference or outside it. tOSU was very particular in this area under Tressel. A lot of Buckeyes wanted Urban to "lock down Ohio" like Tressel had, but unfortunately Meyer has seen the talent in the south and has branched out down there and other places outside the Midwest to get the talent into Columbus.

I always thought it was a funny concept though, "locking down the state." I understand you want homegrown guys to be on your program, but at the same time if there are better prospects out there that will play for you...why not take those instead? Does it really matter if you have 50 guys as oppose to 40 guys from your state on your roster? If you pickup a talented skill player in Florida, who cares if a player in your state at the same position goes elsewhere?

I'm assuming that Harbaugh is trying to throw a bunch of stuff against the wall and see what sticks. Wouldn't be surprised if he is going to be forcing kids out over the next couple of years with this strategy.

With that said, I don't know much about a lot of these kids he's getting but I really like the DB out of Florida. I'm also very confident that this strategy will yield some very quality players that we wouldn't have previously known about.

McKeon is from my neck of the woods. My HS plays his HS and he played on a 7v7 team that several kids from my HS played on this spring so I've had a chance to see him up close on a number of occasions. He is an Ivy league kid who blew up this spring after running a 4.65 at the Nike Sparq combine, which I believe was the fastest in the country for a TE. 247sports has him as the #64 TE in the country, yet he has more offers than a lot of guys ahead of him. He's just as good, if not better, than the #18 TE in the country (also from Mass, committed to Penn State), so IMO rankings are shit in a lot of cases.

Regarding McKeon, I think he's going to be a stud. His HS runs the double wing, and Massachusetts is under-recruited, so it took until this spring for him to get noticed by traveling to camps and playing 7v7. The reality is, rankings are nice and in many cases can give an accurate projection of players, but there are A LOT of players that either don't get accurately ranked or completely fly under the radar for a variety of reasons.

Didn't Harbaugh turn a bunch of "diamonds in the rough" into studs at Stanford? It's all about identifying and developing talent, which I believe Harbaugh is pretty good at. Fortunately, I think BK and staff are among the best in the country at this as well.

With that said, Fvck Michigan!

In Ohio, at least, Ohio guys playing for Ohio State is a big deal. ND wants the "best and brightest," but Ohio State wants the "best and brightest Ohioans." As much as Catholicism is a factor in our school identity, state pride is a factor in OSU's identity, and taking in-state kids is a factor in that.
