Sparty could be on the way to owning that state. If the recruiting ever catches up to the coaching, whoa buddy.

As a new resident of East Lansing who now lives only a few miles from the State stadium, I'm gonna enjoy watching them stomp a mudhole in the scUMbags again this year.

Does anyone else read Mgoblog? I know, I know, but Sun Tzu something something. Anyway, they've got a thread there talking about their expectations for the coming season and while the pessimism certainly makes for some decent schadenfreude, an overwhelming opinion of their fanbase seems to be that Michigan will be better than last year, while we will be the same or worse.

Admittedly, fans paying attention to one team are often blind to the changes occurring down the road. However, I think that this is ridiculous even by skunk standards. It's forgivable to ignore the subtle changes, but even going by the obvious ones (our QB situation gets MUCH better, their Oline loses two very good players), it doesn't support the conclusion that ND's prospects are static and Michigan's are much improved.

Hmph. ScUMbags.

I'll be married, divorced, and see ND win a title by then, all of which are yet to happen in my lifetime.

Hmph. ScUMbags.

The funny thing about Michigan is that their OL sucked last year... and then they lost their only two good players... sooooooo.... unless there was a miracle coaching job, their OL should suck again.

They have no WRs that are elite, and they lost they lost their one go to guy... soooooo......

Gardner could take a step forward and their RBs could be better. Does that even matter though if their OL sucks? To me it's as simple as their OL... if great, they will be good... if bad as expected, they should crater.

Their defense will be very good if not great, IMO. Mattison has recruited well. They have a deep secondary, good linebackers, and a decent DL. Their defense should be in the top couple in the B1G, and one of the best we play all year. Mattison, unlike Hoke, can actually coach. Can that overcome their offensive deficiencies? A great defense in 2012 did for us.

Evidently the Wolverines are resorting to "Fireworks Nights" to help draw in the crowds.

They are also reportedly considering the following promotions:

Disco Demolition Night
10 Cent Beer Night

Lads on vacation in michigan and i found this book about SCUM and the Rich Rod tenure:
Amazon.com: Three and Out: Rich Rodriguez and the Michigan Wolverines in the Crucible of College Football eBook: John U. Bacon: Kindle Store

From reading here are some observations i can make.

Lloyd Carr was a tremendous douche bag of worldly proportions.
He didn't want Les Miles or Rich Rod to get the job and when Rich Rod took the job Carr rang every SCUM junior and told them to go Pro or transfer.
Tate Forcier despite being a bit of a clown was actually quite amusing, insane self-belief despite all the abuse he took from coaches and pundits. Towards the end of his time he actually did earn respect from his teammates but then legged it as soon as Rich Rod was canned.
The SCUM "family" are all pure dirt bags. Seriously they deserved all those losing season, simply an awful group of people. Carr and his cronies basically sabotaged the Rich Rod regime at every opportunity. They rather the team got pummeled just to prove a point that they disproved of Rich Rod's hiring because he was an outsider. Then as soon as Hoke gets hired they all come back out of the wordwork.

In summation, FUCK Michigan

I thought Carr retired willingly though. What's with all the bitterness?

While you're at it, why don't you go look up the history of fielding yost and bo schembechler (I will not capitalize their names as they are asshats undeserving of proper recognition). "Association" with those two was the unofficial requirement to be a head coach or a "meatchicken man." So essentially one had to associate with well-known bigots who hated Catholicism and wanted Notre Dame gone.

They're all douche bags in my book because no one at that POS, God-less institution has the balls or common sense to disavow themselves from those two bigots. Instead their actions are put on a pedestal as a beacon for all the skunkbears to see. It's disgusting and I wish ND never had anything more to do with um. Anything.

They're a regional brand. They need us and we don't need them. If ND didn't pay any attention to them, um would become Iowa - a garden variety Big Integer school who plays football at 11am on Saturdays on ABC when all the real football schools are gearing up for primetime games. That's exactly what they deserve and they're Greg Mattison away from being there. Sparty is taking over Michigan and OSU will use them as a doormat.

An old friend's son who went to Fork Union for a prep year got a ride to U of M at quarterback. Never a top national choice, this kid was 6'4" with some mobility and a strong arm. He did really well his first year or so, and then in a spring game he really screwed the pooch. Not my words. Apparently whatever happened was enough to warrant the "Wrath of Carr!" Lloyd used to burry kids that pissed him off.

My friend went to him, hat in hand asking for a release. Up until that exact minute my friend was a big Lloyd fan. Lloyd basically told my friend to fuck himself, that he would never grant him a release. Period. It was a shame because my friend had strong connections at the University of Toledo, where his kid would have had a shot at being a real star. But Lloyd wouldn't release him. I have talked to a lot of people who just didn't get this. There was no reason to jam him, most coaches would have appreciated having the scholarship back.

So, the kid went D-2. And you have one more story to add to your collection of Lloyd Carr, King of the Ass-hats stories.

Pretty much agree with you on everything, except the WR comment. I think Funchess is very much on the verge of being elite and could really bust out this season. He's a big-time talent imo.

Like you said, the offensive line will tell the story of the season. If they can produce and protect the QB and open running lanes, Michigan will have a pretty good season. If they tank again, Michigan will crater to another 7-8 win season and Hoke's seat will start to get white hot.

Losing players as talented as Lewan and Schofield, makes me question how the OL can improve. I'm scared for the OL going into 2014. I will say this about Lewan though...great talent, but a complete scumbag. He should've been a top 5 pick on talent and production. He was a better pass protector than Greg Robinson and a way better athlete than Jake Matthews. But he slipped out of that range because he's a waste of space as a human being.

7-8 wins with that schedule is unacceptable. His seat won't get hot, it'll be empty as he rides his Rascal out of Ann Arbor.

I'd honestly love to see him go. I've had enough of Fred Flinstone. He's a great recruiter, but that's about it. His lack of success on the field has caused him to miss out on a lot of recruits he flat out lead for or had committed.

I'd rather have a coach that actually coaches and develops talent like Mark Dantonio than one that is just a great recruiter. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have a guy that can do both, but if forced to choose one or the other, I'm taking that dude that actually coaches/develops.

Do you think they can find a "Michigan Man" for the job, or will they need to look outside that mold? I've heard Les burned bridges that would prevent him from going to Ann Arbor so I don't know of any others.

Les will never leave LSU IMO, unless he is retiring or shown the door.
