I get this and totally agree that the later scenario should never happen. But I don't know if I am with you on the excessive.

Should one illegal drug be more punishable than another? I am not some anti-marijuana guy either. I think if you dug through my posts you would find the opposite. Just not going to feel sorry for a kid who loses his season because he broke a rule (not just a rule it is illegal in the United States) that he knew about up front. He played with fire got burnt.

Personally, I think it is bogus that kid's that are suspended a year for this shit get a whole year of free school still. Why should a university pay for a kid to go to school who isn't holding up his end of the bargain.

Anyways, don't want to start some big argument in here so I will end with this:

FUCK MICHIGAN

Lol yes buddy.

by law yes, totally agree. i meant in the eyes of the NCAA.

Maybe not, but I just can't comprehend the logic behind enhanced penalties during the tournament. If a guy blazes up in the middle of the season or during March Madness, who cares? They shouldn't adjust the level of the punishment based on the time of the season.

It's a dumb rule, and McGary is equally as dumb for smoking. I don't think there's anything wrong with acknowledging both.

Which is idiotic considering he was out for the tournament due to injury.

And right after they passed down the year long suspension, they amended their by-laws so that it is only a half year suspension now (still WAY too excessive for marijuana).

Doesn't the NCAA know that weed has medicinal value?

P.S. Fuck Michigan

That brings up a good question: If a player is in a state where medicinal use of marijuana is permitted and that player has a proper prescription, is his use an exception under NCAA by-laws?

Marijuana certainly has medicinal uses. Countless studies have backed this up. Granted, some states (e.g. Cali) hand this prescriptions out for any and every reason. But there are some cases where medicinal use is completely legit.

@TJamesNDI: Yikes RT @nickbaumgardner Barring any changes, only 7 of 27 2010 signees from Rodriguez's last full class will have finished careers at U-M.

This should probably read
"Those who stay...will probably wish they left."

Well, Anna Hickey predicted us to go 11-1 and have a top 5 recruiting class. There are always insane predictions out there. It's all click bait.

How did that work out for her last year?

Sounds like us circa 2008.

I don't mean that as a dig to ND fans. I have been saying since Michigan touted Fred as the next coming of Bo, (who was never close to an NC,) that Rodriguez left Hoke a recruiting hole, much like Willingham left Weis. Interestingly enough as much as many want to filet our three coaches prior to Kelly, it was the combination of their consecutive tenure, more than their individual foibles that caused the increasing dysfunction of the ND program. For several years I have seen Hoke as "two down!"

I agree. I posted on some thread here long ago (probably a Kelly thread) that the problem has always been just a string of bad hires. Each had their shortcomings, but it wasn't anything a good hire couldn't cure. The "no one wants to play in cold weather, too many academic restrictions, etc" were all easy excuses for the ND haters to spout.

What would dispose a coach (let alone one in his shoes) to make a statement like this?
