Rumor swirling around:

Mitch McGary to announce he will go pro Thursday.

Skipped all of his final exams so it seems very likely he will not be returning.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Couldn't have happened to a better bunch of assholes.

A YEAR suspension for a first time drug test failure....and for marijuana?!

The NCAA is such a joke. Rapists are playing. Felons are playing. Guys with DUIs sit out a game or two and then are back in action. But, you test positive for weed, you're done for a YEAR.

So out of touch.

issue was he failed a NCAA test and not a university/team test. In fairness as the dumb as the rule is, he was a dummy for getting caught.

Pretty sure it's only like 3 or 5 games if it's during the season but his is a year because he failed it during the tournament.

Which is idiotic considering he was out for the tournament due to injury.

And right after they passed down the year long suspension, they amended their by-laws so that it is only a half year suspension now (still WAY too excessive for marijuana).

he wasn't "out" because their coach decided to dress him making him eligible to test.

I don't think it is excessive either. The rules are the rules. All this stupid slap on the wrist shit is for panzies.

These kids are sat in a room before every season starts and given the rules. You break them you pay the price. Period.

Dumb move by the Coach Belein dressing him considering he was still suffering from his back injury and unable to play.

And just because a rule is a rule doesn't mean it can't be excessive. There is no conceivable reason why a player who is convicted of a DUI should be allowed to play the following season while a player who tests positive for marijuana should be suspended the entire following season.

The article said that the NCAA could even test an injured athlete not dressing, back at the campus.

The article also said that a school set it's own punishment for testing positive. Michigan was stricter than most. It would be 3-5 games if it were a school administered drug test (at Michigan.) The NCAA has schools do testing, and it does testing. Two different things. The school is responsible for its own punishment, the NCAA does one year first time, life ban, second.

I don't see anything to indicate that the NCAA is a corrupt, useless organization, when college sport desperately needs a good, effective one. I agree with all those that have pointed out the hypocrisy of the organization. But does anyone actually think this guy wasn't singled out and turned in for payback?

I get this and totally agree that the later scenario should never happen. But I don't know if I am with you on the excessive.

Should one illegal drug be more punishable than another? I am not some anti-marijuana guy either. I think if you dug through my posts you would find the opposite. Just not going to feel sorry for a kid who loses his season because he broke a rule (not just a rule it is illegal in the United States) that he knew about up front. He played with fire got burnt.

Personally, I think it is bogus that kid's that are suspended a year for this shit get a whole year of free school still. Why should a university pay for a kid to go to school who isn't holding up his end of the bargain.

Anyways, don't want to start some big argument in here so I will end with this:

FUCK MICHIGAN

I am probably a little more than biased since I am in grad school at Michigan and actually cheer for the basketball team. They are fun to watch, generally great representatives of the school and Coach Beilein is a great coach.

But when it comes to football...FUCK MICHIGAN.

Wrong. He wasn't out because he was on the roster, not because he dressed. Even if he didn't dress, he was still on the roster and would have been there in a suit and tie.
