Not sure if I believe this but it would be good for Ryan.

Ann Arbor — Michigan linebacker Jake Ryan, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate (knee) ligament early in spring practice, could be on the field this fall.

Ryan, who led the team in tackles last season, was on the sideline for Saturday's final spring scrimmage at Michigan Stadium, using crutches at times to help him get around.

Michigan coach Brady Hoke said after the practice the timetable is favorable for Ryan's return.

"You know, I'm not a doctor, but (Ryan could return) possibly middle of October," Hoke said.

Recovering from an ACL injury varies. Some athletes take a year to fully recovery, others have made rapid returns. Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is the most notable in terms of quick recoveries and has essentially set the benchmark after tearing his ACL.

"Some people react differently (to rehab)," Hoke said.

Michigan receiver Drew Dileo said his close friend, Ryan, has had a great attitude since the injury last month.

"Jake has really committed to his rehab, which is going really well right now," Dileo said. "I think he cut his hair, so he got that distraction out of the way. He's ready to work. Jake's a guy who loves playing the game of football. Really, he knows as much rehab he gets in is only going to help him get back on the field."

So he is going to use a years eligibility for what could be as little as three or four games? And risk the catastrophic damage of a repeat injury?

That's a good point. Probably just the local writers trying keeping UM fans off ledges.

If you're getting ready to hit the 'Michigan is killing us in recruiting' panic button, rest easy. Granted, they are in good shape with a lot of elite talent, but so are we. To date, the 247 composite team rankings are:

Notre Dame #10 with 6 commits and a .9164 rating,
Michigan #11 with 6 commits and a .9103 rating.

These include Drake (Michigan) and Mustipher (ND).

Their lowest ranked recruit is a grayshirt. He brings their composite down but won't get a scholarship if he doesn't "earn" it.

I noticed that, but you can take away what you want from that. Yeah, he's probably going to make more of an impact that a '77' would, but who knows. I didn't really know how to account for that.

McDowell, Hand, and Peppers would push up that ranking pretty high. That'd give them 4 5:s: guys. And as Rack Em said the data is skewed. Just playing some devils advocate.

I agree with you. But I just wanted to shed some light given that the concensus is that they're killing us. To be honest, IMO they are off to a better start given both their commits AND who's very interested in them... But we're definitely in the ball park.

If we have a better season, I expect to finish ahead of them. Weird **** happens when you win.

#Michigan WR currently working out for #NotreDame per @TremendousUM Michigan WR currently working out for Notre Dame via @247Sports #ND #Irish
I hope this is Drake Harris. Might just be a kid from the state of Michigan.

Probably not. I don't see why a 5 star would have to work out for someone. If they are working out for Notre Dame, the staff is probably debating if they should offer him or not

When I hear "working out" I think of John Turner earning his offer through a workout, not a top WR needing to do so. But stranger things have happened in recruiting.

Smells like an SEC-ish move.... hmmm....

Yes and no. Hoke has definitely been effective in pushing out under performers and hold overs from Rich Rod previously... but in this case, there is no reason to push out a 5th year (unless they over signed? Did they take any "grey shirt" players in the last class?) so that's at least one you could chalk up to not being a force out.

I should have been more specific. Sorry Lax. I was referring mainly to the other 2 guys. Especially the red shirt freshman.

Put it on the bulletin board.

(Also, years ago Brandon said Michigan would have to back out when they go to 9 conference games (which is now happening) and we aren't scheduled to play MSU after 2013... but... yeah, facts are optional when it comes to Michigan and stoking their ego).

Michigan picked up a commitment form low 3:s: Chase Winovich. Has an OK offer list will assuredly get a bump now for committing to Michigan.

Chase Winovich

He deserves a bump he's a solid player, wouldn't have minded if ND offer. I would consider UM, OSU, Stanford and FSU pretty good offers

Chase Winovich

I honestly think he was due for a bump in the rankings before he ever committed to Michigan.

The biggest news of this commitment though is that Brady Hoke yet again beats Urban Meyer and Ohio State out for a recruit that Meyer and his staff were very high on.

Jabrill Peppers, CB - Urban was after him hard, for obvious reasons
Drake Harris, WR - Harris visited tOSU then committed to Michigan the following week
Lawrence Marshall, DE - was a one-time Ohio State commit
Michael Ferns, LB - Ohio LB that Michigan out-recruited Urban for
Mason Cole, OL - Urban was after him hard early
Ian Bunting, TE - tOSU offered
Chase Winovich, OLB - tOSU offered and was recruiting him heavily, even tried getting him to postpone the decision and take a visit this weekend.

That's 7 of their 11 commits that Urban was legitimately after. Urbie wanted roughly 64% of Michigan's class.

Conversely, Michigan offered and went after only 3 of tOSU's 9 prospects. 33%.

Damon Webb, DB - Michigan DB from Cass Tech that Urbz flat out beat Hoke for.
Dante Booker, OLB - Ohio LB that never gave Michigan a look.
Kyle Berger, OLB - Michigan went after him hard, Da Urbz won out.

Jabrill Peppers, CB - Grew up a scUM fan, and was always going to scUM, regardless
Drake Harris, WR - Dad is a scUM fan, and as soon as he was offered by scUM, he was gone...
Lawrence Marshall, DE - at first, i thought otherwise, but now I am led to believe that the staff had stopped recruiting him after his decommitment. Apparently he committed prematurely. And he isn't a must-have DE.
Michael Ferns, LB - Ohio LB that was offered, but not recruited hard by the staff. I think he had scUM leaning all the while. scUM is a good school, and Ohio is in the neighborhood. There will ALWAYS be recruits from ohio that go to TSUN any given year, no matter who is recruiting. He is a good MLB, but we are in on Raekwon McMillan, who is an awesome MLB. McMillan >> Ferns, and this is no big loss.
Mason Cole, OL - Would've been cool to have landed him, but it wasn't to be. We got outrecruited. Was a position of need as well, so a big loss.
Ian Bunting, TE - Had an OSU offer, but spruned us, but not such a big loss. We are in on some GREAT other TEs.
Chase Winovich, OLB - Outrecruited again.

Damon Webb, DB - Big gain for us because he is from Cass Tech, scUM's pipeline. This was like scUM getting a kid tOSU wanted, out of Glenville
Dante Booker, OLB - Never looked at scUM.
Kyle Berger, OLB - Hoke called Kyle "Alex" during one of his meetings... though that wasn't the reason for him to land with us. Don't know if you guys know this or not...

My point is, in any class, scUM's gonna get good kids... While it is easy to get lost in these numbers, it is necessary to look at the big picture. The fact that we were even in on those kids from TheStateUpNorth was because Urban is really good.

In short, we'll be fine! :D

PS: I'd like to see a list of the recruiting battles between ND and scUM, and ND and tOSU.

PPS: I've seen a lot of animosity directed towards tOSU on these boards. I have to wonder why. We don't even meet regularly. We've played 5 times total since the beginning of time.
