OSU was having a pretty incredible offseason up until this point too - essential returned entire team outside of MHJ, (probably) upgraded at QB, and their biggest hurdle for a title over the last decade+ just lost their HC.

I mean…bill O’Brien?

O'Brien will forever be the bridge from Paterno to Franklin at Penn State as far as I'm concerned.

in what capacity? i dont see that happening unless its a non coordinator role
Albert Breer was on Rich Eisen’s show early last month and mentioned it as a possibility. He said probably not right now but there were rumors Day has been sniffing around the NFL.

Wasn’t he successful at Bama?
No title, but still a top offense?
24-4, 41 points per game, Heisman Trophy winner who became first overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Bama fans hated him.

Some of them even blame him for the wake he left behind in 2023 and were not nearly as hard on Rees because O'Brien had Milroe for two years, Simpson for one, and that's what Rees got left with.

Replacing Day because he gets fired you mean. If doesn't win the B1G title and/or looses to SCUM again he is gone.
If they don't beat Michigan next year, with what those two teams have coming back...

But agree it's more likely O'Brien is an interim head coach for a shitcanned Ryan Day than he is the heir apparent when Day alights to the NFL. I also suspect that if BOB aspired to be a college head coach, he would be one by now. Surely he's had opportunities, even if not at the caliber of Ohio State.

Notice how other schools hire experienced ADs to be the AD, while we hire lawyers without any AD experience, but who are hired anyway because they went to ND.

He's also the one who hired Jimbo Fischer and oversaw the shit show at Ol Miss. Fuck his experience.

He didn't hire Fisher, Scott Woodward did. But it isn't just Bjork, it's Gene Smith, Warde Manuel, Greg Byrne, etc. Maybe its better to make mistakes elsewhere than make them at ND for the first time. E.g., staying loyal to a HC after he goes 4-8 who then leaves you holding the bag a few years later.

This may not be the best example. ND is 1/5 teams that have finished ranked in the Top 20 every single year since 2017. The others are Georgia, Alabama, Ohio St and Clemson. Retaining BK turned out to be the correct decision even if unpopular at the time.

It was 100% the correct decision. I think the ND athletic department has been run pretty well. Lots of success across the different sports during Swarbrick's tenure

When are people expecting Ryan Day to get "shitcanned" in the scenario that Bill O'Brien takes over as interim HC?

Ohio State should be 5-0 rolling into Eugene, Oregon on October 12th.

They didn’t spend any of it on the defensive line and they bought a center who forgot how to snap the ball. None of these additions address their actual weaknesses.

Reminds me of Michigan boasting that they "poached" Doug Nussmeier from Alabama, when in fact Alabama just let him go.

They ostensibly used NIL money to keep Williams, Sawyer, and TJ from going pro--so didn't really need to buy any dlinemen in the portal?

I dont think their Judkins buy was very accretive/wise given Henderson is coming back anyways. Only one RB can be on the field at once. Better to have spent that $$ on even another elite portal receiver or probably two
